Hello Disboards Fashionistas:

My DD is getting married in early January, and she just picked her bridesmaid colors.

They have picked Royal blue bridesmaid dresses, and tuxes will be black.

Can I do a teal dress? The one I like is a a darker teal, as opposed to a brighter teal. The dress style is perfect for a winter wedding in Wisconsin, in early January. DD likes the dress style, I am just not sure how the colors will coordinate.

FWIW, I cannot wear any pale neutral color, like a beige or champagne type of color. I fade into those colors so badly, people will wonder where the MOB is.

Would there be a better color I could look at?
I'll try to post a picture later!
Thanks!

It will coordinate just fine.

::yes:: Sure - sounds like a good choice actually. You say you can't go neutral and you don't want to go matchy-matchy; teal, purple or grey would all be really nice compliments to royal blue without being a distraction.

If your daughter likes it and you like it I'd say that's all that matters. Congratulations. I don't really think the MOB or MOG need to coordinate with the wedding colors.

Congrats!!!
Teal is my favorite color!
Sounds perfect

I am mother of the groom. Wedding in 3 weeks. Bridesmaid dresses are navy. Teal is a color the dress shop suggested for me.

Mother of bride is wearing a gray/blue chiffon dress. The dress shop also suggested a merlot/maroon color for me. That looked better on me than teal. And I found a style in that color that I liked. So that's what i am wearing.

Enjoy the months ahead. They go by fast!

Also, be sure to order early if you have to order. I ordered my dress April 28th as soon as the MOB told me she had ordered hers. (It's proper etiquette for mother of the groom to wait and get her dress after MOB so that they coordinate and not clash and are not the same color) I just got my dress Wednesday. Alfred Angelo (my dressmaker) went bankrupt Friday! It was close that I got my dress. MOB is still waiting on her dress-don't know who she ordered with. But if there's a mother of the groom and grandmothers they need time to also choose their dresses. And I needed time for alterations and choosing shoes and jewelry.

David's Bridal website has a 'if the wedding is x color then mothers can choose y color' feature, too.

It looks better in photos if folks are coordinating. Not matchy but complimentary.

Really? They've been making bridesmaid and MOB dresses since the dawn of time. For sure Alfred Angelo was the label for my own wedding and several I've been in. Hearing of their demise makes me feel a little sad. :sad1:

Yes, they filed chapter 7, which means they're liquidating, not reorganizing. And they opened for a half day for pick-ups only, same day notice. Everyone whose dress hadn't arrived yet appears to be out of luck. It's kind of a mess.

I know! Over 80 years. A name you thought you trusted..like SEARS. So glad my dress shipped before their demise!

I was shocked about Alfred Angelo, my son was married on April 28th and my daughter in law picked her bridesmaids and flower girl dress from there, I feel like we were so lucky. My heartbreaks for all the brides in a panic now and scrambling to find dresses AND the money to buy something else.

The colors sound awesome especially for January!! Have fun planning!

You do not have to match the bridal party. You are not a bridesmaid, you should not be blending in, you should stand apart in your own way just like the mother of the groom. IMO as long as you're not wearing black or white you should be just fine :)

There's a difference between matching and coordinating. The mothers will be in the formal photos, what they wear should harmonize (NOT match) with the rest of the wedding party otherwise they'll stick out like a sore thumb. Next time you're watching TV or a movie pay attention to what people are wearing. Everyone in the scene somehow coordinates, it's very subtle but it's there. That's done on purpose, it makes things smoother and less distracting.

OP here again....DD went dress shopping 2weeks ago, and the store doesn't divulge the brands of dresses. I was on the phone with the bridal store when they opened Friday morning. I was pretty sure DD had selected a Mori
Lee dress, which, thank goodness it was.

Good luck with your upcoming wedding!,,
