After reading on the recent "CSR is the greatest resort ever" style threads I started wondering if I am the only person who believes that CSR is highly overrated. Anyhow, what better to find out then with a poll. :cool1:

The purposed is to figure out what resort gets far better reviews and hype then it deserves. This isn't really about comparing the resorts though.

For example: POP gets a lot of good reviews, but most of them are pretty honest about it just being a value. CSR gets a lot of great reviews, many of which make believe that it is a deluxe. I would much rather stay at CSR than POP, but CSR is the more Overrated resort in this case (In my opinion).

By Level

Deluxe.. Grand Floridian. They want WHAT for that level of service? That's a "flagship" "Deluxe" RIP OFF!

Moderate ... CSR. Nice hotel, one of the most clueless Front Desks I have EVER worked with (Inside or out of Disney)

Value... really they all are about the same.

I voted for the Grand Floridian. We stayed there last year and it was really nice. Nothing was bad at all. So why did I vote for this? Once we were in the room, it was just a room. No better or worse than any other deluxe we stayed at. Yes, it's pretty, has a nice lobby and all that, but not worth the extra cost. We can get our fix just by a drop in!

This is a tough one, because when people praise their favorite resort, they really believe what they're saying. Each Disney resort has their fans because the choices are so personal. So just because a resort doesn't live up to my expectations isn't necessarily all the fault of the resort.

Personally, I think that the resorts in each level (value, mod, deluxe) are pretty much the same if you get down to basics. I can't see favoring one value over another, or one mod over another, or even one deluxe over another, when it comes down to basics.

I guess if I have to pick one, I'd probably say Beach Club. Not that there's anything wrong with the BC, but it always gets played up much more than it's sister YC, and I find them to be pretty much the same (and prefer the YC for transportation convenience) since most of their amenities are shared.

I think overall, the GF is the most overrated. We preferred the theming at the Poly or even WL and the price is way too inflated.

I really hope this thread wasn't set up for (and won't descend into) CSR bashing though. :sad2:

I also don't think CSR can ever be classed as deluxe, but IMHO is far and above the best of the moderates.

:)

I voted POP Century. I just don't get it. It's a value, and they're all about the same to me.

Next is probably Grand Floridian. My first complaint is just a personal thing: the Victorian theming is just not for me. It's ok in the lobby, but the rooms just didn't do it. My second complaint has to do with service. A resort of this calibre should have impressive cast members. I had problems with housekeeping (they couldn't manage to clean the tub), the front desk (they couldn't/wouldn't handle simple account requests that even the Hampton Inn will do), and staff in general (they couldn't answer questions about when/if there were towels at the pool). It just wasn't worth the extra money to me.

People often bash Coronado Springs. I didn't have any issues there at all... but it was basically just a Moderate. It really seemed very similiar to Caribbean Beach, and Port Orleans.

Another topic that is a matter of personal opinion/taste. Personally, I find the WL way overrated along with the CR. Yes, I am a CSR lover, but don't consider it a deluxe. Does it have some deluxe type options--absolutely. But if it were a deluxe, we wouldn't be staying there because the prices would be like the other deluxes which are outrageous.

How can CR be overrated? It seems like 76.72% of the posts about it here and everywhere else are negative about it! :)
I voted Poly as the most overrated. So many people sing its praises, but its just not all that great. Besides, I've been to Hawaii for real, I don't really need to go there in Florida.

Full disclosure - I have not stayed there, and so my experience with it is limited to the lobby and grounds only. But I'm voting for the Poly. The theming just wasn't for me, and the lobby seemed crowded and too hustle-and-bustle for my taste.

I totally agree that CSR gets so many "good ratings" on the disboards, and when we stayed there, I really thought it was nothing special... and definately not worth the money, or the reputation some give it here.

given, I have not stayed at any others onsite... but again, I am voting based on my experience, compared to the way it is treated as "one of the best" from some here.

I voted for the Poly

eta
my second choice is CSR

I am also only voting places I have stayed. I dont know how you can vote for a place as overrated if you havent even stayed there but thats just me.

I voted for the GF though I have never stayed there, I probably won't ever because it just doesn't appeal to me and I would never spend that much money to stay there. Truth be told though all resort love is based on personal taste and experience. I had the worst Disney experience at CBR so I have a bad taste in my mouth about the resort even though some others here LOVE it. I have heard similar stories to ours about CSR, but we had a fabulous stay there. So, my contention is resort preferrences are extremely varied and that's why Disney has so many choices for us. No one persons opinion is more valuable than anothers so I always say do your research and go with the one that appeals most to you and enjoy!

To me CSR is just OK. My DH loves it and I just don't see why. I do like it and will stay there again, but I just can't rave about it the way others do.

LOL! Same can be said for CBR. Always comes last in the "fave mod" polls, so not sure how it can be considered overrated.

Out of the resorts I have stayed at, I would have to say CSR is the most overrated.

We've never stayed at CSR but it's hard to imagine that it could live up to what's written about it, but my pick was Poly.

I do not like the Poly and have stayed there twice - it just isn't for me. If I want that type of resort I'll go to Hawaii for the real thing.

I've stayed at CSR 7 times and always had wonderful experiences. The theme is magical, relaxing, and exactly what I want for vacation.:thumbsup2

I think POP is very overrated. I stayed there for one night last May and hated it :( I was really hoping to like it but it seemed really cheesy and overwhelming. I prefer the All Stars to POP but probably wouldn't stay at a value resort again without young children.

I can't comment on the values as I've never stayed at one, only moderates and deluxes.

I didn't really think any of the moderates (that I've stayed in) were over-rated, I enjoyed my time at all and the rate I paid was fine, but re. deluxes, I would have to say the Grand Floridian is very over-rated.

There's no doubt it's a gorgeous hotel (in my opinion anyway lol), I had a wonderful stay there, the room I had (RPC) was lovely and the service OK (not great, but OK), however, I felt the rate I paid for my stay (rack rate) was crazy for the actual resort. Compared to the other deluxes I've stayed at (YC and BWI) I felt it was a little lacking in service and atmosphere and yes, over-rated.

Would I stay there again? You bet, but only with a discounted rate, i.e. a more realistic rate!

We enjoyed our stays at CSR and although it is'nt a deluxe, it does have extra amenities that we did get to use such as the exercise room that DS used to keep in shape for football, and the room service I used when I was stuck in the room with my other DS sick. I would'nt stay at a deluxe and pay that price just for those services but it was nice to have it at a moderate price. It was also nice to sleep in a Queen bed not a double. I'm not crazy about the WL even though many people love it, I think its a nice place but we have woods and lakes around us so I prefer to stay at a resort with flowers and Palm trees but that's just me. With so many things going on now with the economy and people losing their jobs and soldiers still in Iraq it seems kind of petty to be picking apart at the resorts that some people enjoy so much. If you can still afford a trip to Disney than you are fortunate no matter which resort you stay in, and if you don't like a resort than don't stay there! Linda :)

The CSR!!! It looks ok on the outside, but the room decore :scared:. I know they are rehabing now, but still. And the Ranchos section has the worse theme out of all Disney resorts to me.

It's interesting that posters on here all want to point out that it's a matter of personal perference but have their backs up because SOME folks don't agree with them.

Hmm.. personal perferences are only allowed if they agree with yours? IMHO everyone is entitled to thier views. The fact that you may dislike my favorite resort or vice versa is not something to worry about.

If you only want posts where the resort you LOVE is praised, start a private message board, invite only like minded people and have a great time. But the DIS isn't that board!:lmao:

So why are some posters busy "defending" instead of just responding to the question? Do you REALLY think you will change anyone's mind? :happytv:
