Most Overrated Resort

It was a toss up for me between CR and GF. GF is pretty, but for that price... geez! CR is a great location and cool looking, but the inside of it didnt do much for me. Yeah, the monorail is cool, but it looked, oh what should I use for a word.... old!?!?!?

I know you weren't talking about me, but it doesn't bother me at all that so many seem to dislike the Contemporary. That place feels like home to me more than any other hotel I've ever stayed at, Disney or no. The Disneyland Hotel comes in a very close second!

I only voted for one I've stayed at. Of course, since I've only ever stayed at the Contemporary and the Polynesian (and have visited the lobby and grounds of the Grand Floridian) my opinion may not be the most informed. I can still have the opinion that I dislike the Value hotels, even if it is a poorly informed opinion!

My view is.... if everyone else dislikes my favorite moderate then it's MORE likely Disney will offer discounted rooms there.
So if you really LOVE a resort maybe you should NOT talk it up. If everyone follows your lead, Disney won't have to reduce those rates!

As someone who is still in the planning phase of our first trip, I find these sorts of threads very useful. I want to read as many opinions as I can before making my choice, both good and bad! I know that ones taste is personal, but it helps (me anyways) to hear all of those personal experiences and see which ones I relate to. We had originally booked at the GF, but switched (numerous times) and finally settled on a split between POR and the POLY after taking into account all the pros/cons people had mentioned. I feel like knowing the negative side helps with expectations, and for me it's all about expectations!

I understand this I really do, and honestly there are tons of threads about picking a resort, choosing between 2 different resorts etc that I found very helpful as well. This is one reason we decided against a value, because by reading this board and seeing you have to rent a fridge or get in on a fridge swap if you are lucky enough to get in. HOWEVER, I will not go to each thread about one of the values and post how awful it is they don't have fridges in the rooms, etc etc. Kwim?

I honestly feel this thread IMHO wasn't about that, it was trying to bring down those who do post their great experiences about certain resorts.

To each their own, and I hope you have a great 1st trip!

I voted for AK. There way to much talk about this place and I found to be less then pleasing then stated. Almost every other post is about this hotel or eatery. Poly comes in as second and GF third IMHO

I am definitely not a CSR basher. More of a moderate (all of them) basher . I just think, go big or go home... cliche I know but either stay at a value because you'r staying there to sleep and play elsewhere, or go deluxe and relax. No middle ground for me.

I did pick CSR however because I have been there and have read many praises on the Dis about it- not to say it isn't great but the praise itself is a bit ridiculous. I just don't understand all the fuss.

It seems that the GF (or GS as it should now be called ) is taking a hammering in the votes and even got votes from a couple of people who have stayed there. We're trying it this summer thanks to a 40% code from Disney. Apart from the YC it's the only deluxe we've not stayed in so I'll be interested to see if it deserves it's stuffy reputation.

I do think though that resort choices are subjective and thankfully we all don't like the same resorts - otherwise it would be very crowded around the pool

What I think would be really interesting would be 3 separate polls, 1 for the Values, 1 for the Mods and 1 for the Deluxe resorts, that way we could see which was the most overrated in each category

I really didn't find the GF stuffy at all, it is a gorgeous resort and I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time, it's just re. in comparing it with other deluxes it is over-rated (in my opinion of course), and when paying full rack rate it's crazy, but other than that, it's gorgeous

Stuffy wasn't my word, it seems to be one that crops up a lot when people talk about the GF. I know that both you and Caron rated it which was what helped make my decision to stay there. I'll be sure to report back

This is a tough one, because when people praise their favorite resort, they really believe what they're saying. Each Disney resort has their fans because the choices are so personal. So just because a resort doesn't live up to my expectations isn't necessarily all the fault of the resort.

Like everyone said this is so subjective.
I loved POP and AKL, we could have had a vacation at AKL without going to the parks we'd have all been happy.

The Grand Floridian theme really puts me off and I'd never pay that much to stay there. Also, I have zero desire to stay at POR which everyone here also seem so to love... but it's the theme, it's not that I think the hotel is bad.

I also don't grasp the WL theme but I'm not a lover of the outdoors and I've been to the PNW and lived there briefly.

Really it all goes down to what themes you appreciate the most and it's nice to have so many choices. We're staying at CSR this trip and I hope we love it. My kids are excited about the pool.

Resorts choices are so subjective, and I will admit I have not stayed in these resorts but from my limited visits and/or pictures I think POFQ and POR are really overrated. I hear how much people loves the pools, food court, theming, etc. and I just don't get it. Not that they are bad resorts, I just think I read a lot on here about how great they were then I visited and didn't get that feeling (could be because I only visited, I don't know).

CSR is definitely the most overrated, on these boards anyway. The praise it gets is shocking, and in MY OPINION, is somewhat misleading. I don't think any hotel could live up to the expectations that people have for CSR based on these boards. Again JUST MY OPINION.

IMO-I think that's what's driving this poll. I think everyone is entitled to their opinion and personal taste and shouldn't harp on anyone that loves or plugs their favorite. I use this site as an excellent resource for info and everyone is so helpful. I value getting both sides of the opinion to help me make a good resort choice.

GF is a lovely resort - I don't think it's over rated here because you don't see a whole lot of comments about it ---- a very laid back place. We haven't stayed in a few years but when we did it was great - we lean more towards SoG now..........

My stay at Grand Floridian has been nothing but exemplary. I think its position as WDW's "Crown Jewel" resort gives people reasons to knock it and find flaws that much more in order to raise the status of their personal favorite hotels. Nothing wrong with it...simply human nature, I guess.

You hit the nail on the head..I couldn't figure out a nice way to say it, so I didn't. We are staying poly CL in September.
