Most Overrated Resort

It's interesting that posters on here all want to point out that it's a matter of personal perference but have their backs up because SOME folks don't agree with them.

Hmm.. personal perferences are only allowed if they agree with yours? IMHO everyone is entitled to thier views. The fact that you may dislike my favorite resort or vice versa is not something to worry about.

If you only want posts where the resort you LOVE is praised, start a private message board, invite only like minded people and have a great time. But the DIS isn't that board!

So why are some posters busy "defending" instead of just responding to the question? Do you REALLY think you will change anyone's mind?

I know you weren't talking about me, but it doesn't bother me at all that so many seem to dislike the Contemporary. That place feels like home to me more than any other hotel I've ever stayed at, Disney or no. The Disneyland Hotel comes in a very close second!

I only voted for one I've stayed at. Of course, since I've only ever stayed at the Contemporary and the Polynesian (and have visited the lobby and grounds of the Grand Floridian) my opinion may not be the most informed. I can still have the opinion that I dislike the Value hotels, even if it is a poorly informed opinion!

I've stayed at 9 of the Disney resorts, and for me the most overrated so far is the Poly. I had read so many glowing reports on this board... when I got there, I just didn't get it (especially given the cost)

Now, I know this thread was started in response to the CSR threads, and we're staying there in August for the first time. Maybe I'll feel that it's overrated too, but I like to keep in mind what a resort is costing me. I think for the price, most of the Mods are a pretty good deal (good pools, sit down restaurants, nice themes & landscaping)...

If you love the DLH, you are all right by me! My favorite hotel in the whole world.

Okay, I guess for me, the WL is the resort I have the least desire to stay at. I haven't stayed there because I can't get past that small room size and I don't like a dark theme. Its too much like home for me, I tend to want something more tropical and bright.

I have to laugh at the surge of anti CSR threads lately. Why is it when something suddenly gets very popular around here, it must slide down the scale so to speak? To me it was perfect. But hey, no resort can be all things to all people. I have learned to love CBR in spite of what I feel is a lot of unfair heat so I guess I can do that with CSR too!

Basically I have enjoyed each every WDW resort I have stayed at and can't really come up with too many negatives to any of them. I loved some more than others but if I'm at Disney, its usually all good!

I'm sure CarolA was referring to me. But little does she know that I could care less if anyone likes CSR. It IS a matter of personal taste/preference. When someone asks "what do you think of CSR" I am going to state my opinion. Just because she has had bad visits does not mean everyone has--I've had seven nearly perfect visits. I have no problem with people not liking it...like I said, I could care less. There are plenty of resorts for people to stay at Disney.

I voted for the Grand Floridian. We stayed there last year and it was really nice. Nothing was bad at all. So why did I vote for this? Once we were in the room, it was just a room. No better or worse than any other deluxe we stayed at. Yes, it's pretty, has a nice lobby and all that, but not worth the extra cost. We can get our fix just by a drop in!

You hit the nail on the head. We stayed there in November and I agree with you 100%.

After reading on the recent "CSR is the greatest resort ever" style threads I started wondering if I am the only person who believes that CSR is highly overrated. Anyhow, what better to find out then with a poll.

The purposed is to figure out what resort gets far better reviews and hype then it deserves. This isn't really about comparing the resorts though.

For example: POP gets a lot of good reviews, but most of them are pretty honest about it just being a value. CSR gets a lot of great reviews, many of which make believe that it is a deluxe. I would much rather stay at CSR than POP, but CSR is the more Overrated resort in this case (In my opinion).

I don't understand how you can ask this question when the answer is so subjective. I know which resort I love (not telling ) but I can easily see how someone else would hate it. My view isn't any more meaningful than yours... it's simply my opinion. I'm glad people are passionate about what they like and what they don't like... however, expecting that everyone should agree with me about my tastes would be foolhardy at best, immature at worst.

I love a couple for different reasons and also dislike a couple for various reasons. Have never stayed at the value's so I can't comment on them. But honestly there is nothing that I have ever disliked enough to keep me from staying on site. The only one I just never feel comfortable at....while it is beautiful and convienent is CR. Just not us. But everyone has their own opions.

I am sure many here have seen a thread where a poster has had such an "awful" experience at such and such resort, then a poster comes on, and claims they were there at the same time and had a wonderful time!

Even if I were to have a bad experience at a resort in the future( hope not) I would not bash the resort because of it.
Either you like it or you dont...move on..try something else.

I think the only hotel I found truely over rated was BC. Short of the nice pool area the rest of it was just eeehhh OK. I have disliked the theme of alot of places but my taste is different from others. BC has no lobby, poor food choices, bad transportation. The only saving grace was the pool and location. However the YC was completely charming and doesnt get any praise IMO.

Funny And I LOVE the Grand. But for people who are used to staying in really nice hotels, the price is sort of a joke...

I totally agree Which is also why I only go to tripadvisor for the members' photos The reviews are often night and day...

I think there is a difference between bashing and something being overrated. I think Le Cellier is overrated. It gets so much hype on the DIS but I can get a better steak at Outback. That said, I enjoy Le Cellier, however it just isn't the greatest thing ever.

Overrated doesn't = bad. Just means it really isn't the best ever in the whole wide world. Sure some of these resorts may be nice when compared to other Disney resorts, but when compared to resorts outside of Disney, they can be considered overrated.

If that makes sense.

I voted for CSR...I have only stayed there once for one night and did not enjoy it....the only reason I voted for it is because there are alot of people who really praise that place.

For price, I feel the poly is overrated. I mean I agree with the convenience factor, but unless I had like a half off code, I would not pay to stay there (I have stayed there several times when someone else was paying )

I voted for POP. After reading all the reviews & having friends stay there so we tried it & our trips to POP have been very unmagical and the last one downright miserable. Tried it 3x and it's now crossed off our list of resorts to stay at. JMHO................

As someone who is still in the planning phase of our first trip, I find these sorts of threads very useful. I want to read as many opinions as I can before making my choice, both good and bad! I know that ones taste is personal, but it helps (me anyways) to hear all of those personal experiences and see which ones I relate to. We had originally booked at the GF, but switched (numerous times) and finally settled on a split between POR and the POLY after taking into account all the pros/cons people had mentioned. I feel like knowing the negative side helps with expectations, and for me it's all about expectations!

I voted based on the resorts I have stayed at personally. Among those Pop is by far the most over rated resort in my opinion. Everyone says the bus servive there is the best because it doesn't share. That is great except no matter what time of day the buses are jammed pack. And the way the food court and gift shop are placed makes both of them a zoo.

I honestly think the Yacht Club and Beach Club are really overated because in the few times my family and I went there to visit we thought both were very boring, no atmosphere and it's basically just their lobby check-in area and one or two stores.
