Most Overrated Food in Disney

Great thread.
For me Boma's Zebra Dome.
Also, I found out that Boma's Jungle juice is = Trader Post's signature Moonshine juice is = Golden Coral's Orange Promeganate "whatever" juice.
There you go folks..the power of WDW marketing suggestion. Hahaha

Just so you know, this is the recipe for jungle juice is mango juice, pineapple juice, orange juice, grenadine and lemonade. ;) No pomegranate. They had it on our Carnival Cruise, too. It is pretty much orange juice and mango juice.

1 1/2 cups mango juice

1/2 cup pineapple concentrate, thawed

1/2 cup lemonade concentrate, thawed

2 cups fresh orange juice

3 cups water

4 Tablespoons grenadine

for sure Via Napoli pizza.. was so excited, only to find out it was the worst pizza I've had :( then again I used to be obese so my taste buds weren't exactly the best haha

As a south Louisiananian (wow, what a 'made up looking word!! LOL) I agree - 'love' my Cafe du Monde beignets! Yum - want some now!

They took away the one thing that dh & I could not wait to get first thing - our yummy cinnamon roll from Main Street Bakery - and no, not Gastons - just a poor substitute! :sad2:

So true! Gaston's just didn't cut it for this cinnamon roll lovin' family!

i like all the food at the motherland but do have a few that were highly rated by most, but didn't hit the spot for me.

at brown derby:
cobb salad and grapefruit cake.

the zebra domes were disappointing to me.

maybe it was just the day i was there, don't know if i will ever do a repeat on them

Thank you. I was not sure if it was pomegranate but it tasted the same. I shall try this formula

I know it is all opinion and we all have different taste, but here are my thoughts on the topic..........
Churros (so hard and crunchy every time, REAL churros are soft)

DL's are soft! Why WDW can't get their act together on the churro front is annoying! :furious: :furious: :furious:

FG just ignore negative posters, they are looking for attention. "don't give it to them" its a fun thread. So my reply is
Dole Whip. Its not bad just not my style :)

Thanks! :teeth:

The fact this is on page 9, I'd think the majority agree it's fun. :goodvibes And it's nice to read that someone else shares your same opinion on a food item that most people adore.

(... I'll never see the allure of that darned School Bread)

I think the Mickey Bar is overrated. But there is so much nostalgia behind it that I just can't resist! :mickeybar

The grey stuff. I keep reading, "I can't wait to try the grey stuff!" I always wonder how they feel when they find out it's just a mound of weird frosting on a plate.

I can't agree with this enough. When DH, DS3 and I went for dinner, I insisted on getting the grey stuff as one of our desserts. I found it very meh. Now, the strawberry cheesecake cupcake on the other hand...

This was my DH - He has been claiming since we got back (beginnign of sept 2014) that he was going to remake it - and i haven' seen anything yet. :)

I agree that people's expectations are high but that's because more often than not folks gush and rave about these items as if they're the most delectable things on the planet and you try them and find yourself doing a Peggy Lee and asking, "Is that all there is? "

ITA. I can't say there's anything that has been raved about on the boards that I thought was worth the hype, other than the chicken waffle sandwiches.

Dole Whips I just don't get. First, citrus swirls are far superior. Second, Dole Whips are sold at many, many places around the country. I can't get too excited about something when I can get the same thing at a local waterpark, ya know?

Zebra domes. And any of the cupcakes - they're beautiful to look at, but I'm always disappointed that I've wasted either calories or snack credits on them. :)

I agree with everything, although the BOG cupcakes in particular are impressive. Most Disney baked good are beautiful but tasteless, but the BOG cupcakes are really good. They were like eating sweetened air with frosting.

If you don't mind, what did you not like about the chicken waffle sandwich? I was really looking forward to trying it soon.

Listen, I am not a big fan of Disney food in general, but the chicken waffle sandwich is one of my favorite things at Disney. If you're a chicken & waffle person (not everyone is) then you'll probably like it. I was relieved to see the other posted had a ham & cheese waffle sandwich and that's what got the bad review.

And thanks to this thread, I'm making a note of the cronut kiosk in Epcot. My son will die.

To add my own twist to what you've posted......the only thing I've eaten at WDW that I thought was worth the hype found on these boards is the cronut. However I must try someday the chicken waffle sandwich and the Norwegian schoolbread, neither of which I've ever had. All the other things I've posted about in this thread I have indeed tried over the years and they were definitely "meh" to me.

I only had the school bread once and it was stale and tasteless. For the low price, I will try it again. But I love the sweet almond crusted pretzel, especially fresh and hot.
I don't like cupcakes in general but the ones at Starring Rolls, my dd, sil and I race over there to share a couple of them.
Tried a bite of my sil's Tonga Toast, too sweet. I was glad I had ordered the pancakes instead, delicious.

Can't speak for the chicken waffle sandwhich (my palate doesn't care for the sweet and savory blend) .... but go in with low expectations on the school bread. ;)

Who knows, maybe you'll love it since you read this thread and know it's over hyped!

I've seen this point repeated a few times on this thread, bit ITA w/saying that it does seem to be more of a herd mentality for the most popular items. I do enjoy the schoolbread and I am not usually one for sweets at all, but I hadn't read many reviews about it, only had heard it mentioned before as something to try. I really love to read reviews on food but sometimes you have to take it with a grain of salt & form your own opinion, which may or may not agree w/the vast majority.

I was also relieved it was the other one that I am not at all interested in trying! :)

It probably was not stale. They sell too many to get stale. It is more like a hard roll, not a donut, which may be why you thought it was stale and tasteless. Basically it is like a hard roll, crusty outside, with a small dab of delicious (to me) filling, and the coconut icing top. The flavors are subtle, and until you hit filling, it is just eating a hard crusty roll.
I think that the hype of EVERYTHING is totally out of control. People frequently say food "is to die for". They carry on too much. Just don't buy into the hype.

My answer to the question--most overrated food in Disney-- all of it!

Over-rated for me:
Schoolbread---meh
Cronut-nah
Dole Whips are okay.
Zebra domes were okay, but there were other better desserts even on the buffet at Boma imo.
Mickey ice cream bars-no way. Just an ice cream bar... One bite of DH's is more than enough for me.

Haven't tried:
I want to compare the beignets to Cafe du Monde, but the WDW ones look funny--like a sopapilla? Can they really be that bad though?
We're trying Le Cellier this time because it is DH's ts choice. How bad can it be? I always salt my steak anyway.

Not afraid to admit that I really liked:
Orange sugar covered Mickey Mouse white chocolate covered caramel apple? YUM! I even made them for a Halloween party when I got home.
The four of us shared a Butterfinger cupcake last time and loved it. I wonder if the key is in only sampling a bit of it so as not to get too much?
Beer Cheese Soup-Food & Wine/Le Cellier-pretty darn good
Les Halles Bakery Items-very much like the things we tried in France

And a big thank you to anyone who mentioned (somewhere on the board-can't remember where) that the French Onion Soup at BOG is vegetarian....I can't imagine that-shudder. Beef broth is essential imo.

I might get flamed for this-but I don't like the 50's Prime Time. The food was meh. I know supposedly you go there for the experience and it's supposed to be so much fun-but if you get an indifferent server, as we did, there is no fun at all and you are left with nothing but food that is just okay. And everyone hyped up the s'mores for dessert and it turned out to be a plateful of burnt marshmallows. I know s'mores do have toasted marshmallows, btw. These were just lumps of charcoal. :confused3

I *would* like to try a turkey leg just so I can say I had one.
