Most over-hyped things on dis...

The boats from BC, YC Epcot, Swan & Dolphin to Disney Studios. It was fine, but really, no magic involved.

Deluxes. I just don't get it. Now, I can honestly say I've never stayed at one, they are gorgeous and beautiful and I'm sure that they have lovely amenities....but....my entire 10 day fall vacation costs less than what 4 days at some of the deluxes cost. I mean, I understand it would be a lovely way to travel but for me and my family, I'd rather have longer to be there!

::yes:: I agree.

I have stayed at many resorts ranging from off site to the Grand Floridian. I must say that I would rather spend twice as long at a value than a short time at a deluxe. They are pretty but not worth the money. My favorite resort is the All Star Music. I love the decor there, and basically all I do is sleep, shower, and maybe swim there so I don't need more than what they have. Although, if we had tons of $$$ staying on the monirail would be nice though I must admit.

The things I think are overhyped are:
Chef Mickey's
Hoop Dee Doo
Wishes
Illuminations

I know many people LOVE these things. I think they are nice, but I could take or leave most of them. For Wishes, once Tink flies THEN I can take it or leave it. I have to see her fly first. ;)

One queston What is a zebra dome????

Over rated hmmmmm.......
i usually don't read a topic if I am not interested in it. i have found tons of great information on here by great Diser's...

i will say that i have stayed Deluxe and stayed value. Since we were barely in the hotel (AKL) it was a waste of money.....sure beautiful to look at etc... but we get the same use (shower, bed to sleep in) of any hotel. We can stay longer, have more money to spend on nicer meals etc.. and go to WDW more often by staying at POP.

I thought the same thing when I saw Wishes. I remember being amazed at the MVMCP fireworks in 1998, but didn't feel the same about Wishes. Don't get me wrong, the fireworks were very good, just not..."WOW this is the best WDW fireworks display I've ever seen".

for the record, i would never be caught dead in crocs. even in disney. even in a remote island where no one else lived.

:lmao:

I think just for kicks I'm going to go and try some on at the shoe store to see what the hype is about. lol

I'm with the one PP, what's a Zebra Dome?

I love Crocs for my kids although mine are comfortable I feel like Im wearing Mickey Shoes. I may try another style soon and see if it matters because they are certainly comfortable.

I love TGM for the info but more importantly for the additional friends I have made. Because it is smaller it has been easier for me to make friends that it has on DIS although I also love the information I have gained on DIS.

I have never tried a Deluxe resort but hey if you all are willing to spring for it so I can do a comparison I'd be happy to see what all the hype is about.

I have to admit (head hanging) I also don't get excited about autographs and character meets but with three little ones under 5 I better start to like them or learn to grin and bear it.

Finally, I have a Baggalini, haven't tried it yet. I will get back to you on the hype.

All in all I think that like everything there will always be those who love something and those who hate the same things. Thats what is so great about DIS if you don't like what people are talking about you can move to another thread and read about something you enjoy. Happy day to everyone! (Okay I feel a little like Mr. Rogers)

I don't want to hurt any feelings but I feel that the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is over rated. Everyone comes out looking the same as if it were an assembly line.

Boy do I agree, but I think Disney tries to sell this more than visitors.

Staying Off-Site seems to be overhyped to me, I have done both and I will not stay offsite again, there are many benefits to staying onsite, the biggest in the EMH, we are from Cali so Midnight there is like 9:00 PM here and we are used to our parks staying open until Midnight during the summer months (esp. August) so we the added hours make a huge difference. We also never have to use a toll road, which we would have to do as we would have to rent a car there if staying off-site. If staying off-site the entire trip would have to be paid for at once. The theming of the on site hotels is nice as well. Also it is very nice that we don't have to worry about our baggage. We can check in to our airline from the hotel on-site. Don't forget the time that it takes to drive to the parks from an Off-Site hotel is actually longer than taking the buses around the resort, esp. when you don't know the area. These are just my opinions, but really off-site is no where near the value that it seems.

Which is why I ended the first post in this thread with "...and to those who love the things that are over-hyped, keep right on lovin'...to each their own.";)

Crocs sorry but they look so yuck I DH would let me wear them
Turkey Legs were fatty
Chef Mickeys is just another character meal

Worst of all are the Deluxe pools, while most are nice they are just another pool every resort has one.

It's always interesting to me to see what some people really love while other's hate the same thing!!! Just goes to show that WDW has something for everyone.
The things that I think get a bit too much hype here??
Celebrating birthdays in WDW. You see that Jane Jones got all this special treatment and you go and you want the same experience..it just doesn't always happen!

SAB...we've done it but just don't love it too pieces. Add Beaches and Cream to that also..no way do I think it's good enough to wait an hour for, or wait 25 mins for an ice cream cone.

Love my Crocs..have them on now. I have very happy feet when wearing them...don't much care that I look like Goofy in 'em.

I do have two Baggalini messenger bags..one for me, one for dd. She likes it much more than I do. I don't use mine anymore.

Way too much hype over 'non-paying guests in the park when a hard ticketed event is going on'...doesn't happen all that much. Disney does a very good job of clearing out those 'unwanted' guests. And I didn't think I would be saying that after last falls extensive postings regarding this.

Resorts? Again, there is something for everyone. I would much rather be staying at BWV, my 'home away from home', but I have no problem staying at POP if it means an extra, budget trip. Love POP, but I don't try to compare it to BWV. That would be stupid.

Obviously this is subjective depending on each person, but for me there are a few things that are popular here that I just don't get.

First of all, the moderate hotels. I get the value (I am a loyal POP Century guest!) hotels and even deluxes but with the Moderates it doesn't seem like you get much more than the values, you just pay more. Sure, there may be a sit down restaurant, but how often do people who stay there actually eat there? The pools may be bigger or fancier, but to me, they aren't worth the extra money. We prefer to either spend the extra money to go on up to deluxe, or stay with the values depending on what sort of trip we want.

The biggest hyped thing that I don't get though, is the My Disney Girl Perfectly Princess Tea at the Grand Floridian. I mean, I can see the fun of dressing your little girl up and taking her to the tea, but comparing the cost to what you actually get, it astounds me that people are willing to pay it. $200 will buy a LOT of Tiggers. :)

Of course, I love BBB which I am sure that others see as a waste of money, so perhaps I shouldn't talk. :)

While I wouldn't wear Crocs I don't see how anyone could wear sneakers in WDW. My feet get so hot, it's unbearable. I wore them once in November, imagine during the summer? I never saw a baggalini but I'll tell you fanny packs are not overrated. The only place I wear it is in WDW and it makes everyhthing so much easier.

Don't knock it until you try it. I've stayed at all and can honestly say the deluxes are worth every penny. Once again this is only my opinion.

I tryed it twice, but feel i had a better time saying a POP knowing that i didn't spend all of my tax return on a place to stay :rotfl: :rotfl:

staying at POP would mean i could go twice to Disney in a year than once..

lets see what else

Turkey Legs they just look gross
staying offsite

brooke

I've stayed both onsite and offsite, but I'm not sure what you mean by this??
I mean that by staying onsite you can put a $200 deposit down and pay a little bit each month until your final due date, rather than coughing up the whole chunk a lot earlier in most cases to stay off-site and get a good deal.

I almost didn't post because I hate to hurt feelings but I LOVE Crocs and my feelings aren't hurt so hopefully I won't offend anyone. The only things that I get tired of hearing about are the DDP and Maclaren/Peg Perego and other costly strollers. I think it's great to have and bring a comfy, user friendly stroller but I don't think it's necessary to go out and BUY one specifically for your trip. As babies, my kiddos were very comfy in their Graco single then double (when I had ds now 3) and they have also ridden in a double rental (for a day trip) and were perfectly comfy. Next trip, I'll bring my single Graco (5 yrs old and going strong) for dd and rent for ds 5 & 3 (I have a double but they won't ride most of the time anyway and it's more STUFF to deal with)

As for the DDP, I know it's great to save money- I guess it just seems overrated to me because it seems like EVERYONE wants DDP and especially free dining. We do room only ressies and save more that way (but we are Fl res so that makes a diff) and we eat pretty cheaply by budgeting and sticking to it. My mom, sis and I did a CP dinner last year and I was shocked when they said we EACH get an appetizer, meal AND dessert. It was WAY too much food and felt like a waste. What I will try next time is DDE.
