We usually drive to Orlando (from Atlanta). Having the kitchen and extra space in the DVC resorts, I figured we might pack things we normally wouldn't for a typical hotel stay.

What's the most interesting/odd item you bring from home to your DVC HOME?

I'm seriously considering bringing my down comforter! :smooth:

We're bringing our grandson who's 18 mo's old! Doesn't get more interesting than that! Leaving in 10 hours.
WA-HOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

My DH thinks I'm nuts, but I bring my folding laundry hampers, they collapse and fit perfect in a suitcase. Then when you get there, they stand up, it drives me nuts to see piles of clothes, so I bring 2 one for us and one for the kids. I also bring a bottle of frabreeze, so if there are any funky odors, I just spray the place down!

My chidren 26,21,12 hate to see me produce to take their photos but I enjoy now videos from they were babies On American holidays
Holidayed in America for 30 years ,so much so that when I wanted to bring my kids to Spain they would say"why what's there"::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo :earsgirl: :earsboy:

Really! We drove to HH last Thanksgiving -- I put the frozen turkey and all the "cold" stuff needed to fix Thanksgving dinner in a large cooler and brought it all with us. No way to be sure I'd be able to get our favorite brands of stuff in HH and had a free turkey from the grocery store (for using our frequent buyer card). Also brought lots of ziplock bags, saran wrap and foil to wrap leftovers. We lived on leftovers much of the weekend and then had turkey sandwiches for the LONG trip home! Can't wait to go again!!only 39 days left!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :bounce:

ClarabelleCow--I do that all the time--they fit right into that pocket of the suitcase when they are folded down, hate the mess as well!LOL
I take my Microwave stack cooker. I can cook an easy three course meal even in the studios that way!

A Slow Cooker (Crock Pot) for easy to fix meals. Put beef on before we leave in the morning return in late afternoon, heat some vegies and serve. Dinner is ready and eaten in less than a hour plus great leftovers for another day.

Books on tape/player and bubble bath - what a combo.

Passpoter & small journal.

Now you have me daydreaming about upcoming trip.

...we'll have a GPS unit hooked up to the laptop for the trip down, back and just driving around. We don't need it for directions or anything, just think it will be fun to play with.

I going to be bringing my iPAQ 3600 Pocket PC, complete with expansion sleeve and wireless network card... oh yeah... and headphones.

I want to try out the wi-fi serve at the GF pool, maybe listen to some internet radio. :smooth:

Okay... maybe only us techno-geeks would find this interesting.

When we drive I bring along my clock radio with the CD player so that I can listen to the Disney CD's I always end up buying in the parks!

I have also brought my crock pot. It's so nice to come back from the park and find dinner waiting.

I'm seriously considering bringing my down comforter!

I bring my son's down comforter all the time!

I also bought my ice cream maker once, the kind that you freeze the canister, because i hardly ever have enough room in the freezer at home for it.

my mickey mouse waffle maker also made the trip one year.

i bring a hanging door shoe bag..........:genie: i hang it in the studio closet next to the bathroom/sink, each person has two rolls and i put all their stuff, hairbrush, hair thingys, toothbrush, toothpaste, deo, make-up, suntan lotion, medications, etc.....

this way all that stuff is off the bathroom counter and it looks clean & neat.

the bottom roll i keep all the candy, gum, and snacks, so the little one can get it without trying to reach on the counter.

its great for other things, camera, film, playing cards, keys, wallets, tickets,etc....
this way when your in a hurry, you know where everything is and its all in one spot.:sunny:

We bring a nightlight for the bathroom...If you've ever been to HHI and stayed in a 1br then you will know why.

Yes, we've stayed in a 1 BR at HHI and agree-that's a wonderful idea! Adding it to my list of things to pack for February.

King size sheets. I hate those scratchy hotel ones. We don't have a king size bed at home so I bought a set on clearance - they're a funky color but silky smooth. And the bright color ensures the housekeepers won't take them by mistake.

Our kids. You laugh but it is odd for us. We've made 4 trips so far this year and have 2 more left and only one of them has included the kids. Thats DW and my only chance to be a kid sooooo.:D

Maistre Gracey, if we had ever had the chance to bring my MIL that would have been my answer too....LOL....unfortunately, though we thought we might do this in Dec. she passed away a few weeks ago. We thought we'd take her so we could watch her run people over in her ECV! (Just kidding! We thought she'd like to see the decorations and be with the grandkids....)

I think my Mom might fit the bill as "odd or unusual" as well...but then I'd have to say that about myself too!

Okay, now seriously...I've thought about bringing my own alarm clock/cd player. I know how it works so we don't risk oversleeping (did this at the Wyndham Palace the other weekend...had something not set right on the clock and because the shades were so good we didn't wake until 9:30!) Also, my alarm has the "gentle wake" system...starts out very quiet and slowly increases volume. Very pleasant. And we'd have a CD player with us!

I've also thought about bringing the crockpot. Dh suggested frozen cinnamon bun dough (we'll probably just make the buns and bring them frozen). We've also tossed around the idea of frozen meatloaf, meatballs, chili, etc..... But we probably won't bring a lot of frozen foods this trip because we've got a studio our first two nights. Another thing I considered was bringing my bread machine.

Probably the oddest thing I'll end up brining is pre-mixed spice packs for whatever I plan on cooking. And lots of extra gallon ziploc bags, because you can use them for anything! Oh, and an assortment of princess/disney costumes for Halloween....dd wants to be something different every day, so we'll bring what we have and she can choose when the time comes.

We also carry, not a laundry hamper, but a laundry sack that we hang in the closet. And in the past I've brought a spray bottle of water with a little lavendar essential oil in it....freshens the air and helps keep down the germs. I spray the room about twice a day.

Okay, better get back to the packing and quit talking about it!

We bring our cold coffee brewer thingy - it's called a coffee toddy maker - makes the best coffee for coffee coolers but looks kind of strange in the luggage. We've had airport security look at it and our coffee before - our luggage tends to take on a french vanilla aroma.

Quite an interesting list, folks!

I must say...I've added a few things to my shopping list...the pop up hamper and the hanging door divided bag. I can see those both coming in very handy! The crock pot is something that's crossed my mind...and would probably be something worthwhile with three small kids along with us (along with the nightlight).

Do the rooms currently have clock radios? It would be nice to take DD's DVD clock radio...but not worth the packing space to me.

I'm definitely bringing the down comforter and sheets! (Once you go to Egyptian Cotton with 400 thread count, it's hard to go back!).

Spice mixes...I do that too. My SIL brings every one of her gumbo spices with her to the beach so that she can make fresh gumbo. I usually bring all of the dry ingredients for choc chip cookies premixed in a ziplock when we're staying somewhere with a kitchen! ;)

Somehow, I think our last trip to Orlando was the last one without the kids for a while! I didn't even mention the "D" word (and we were staying at the Swan and not even going to the parks) for fear that they wouldn't want to stay home with grandma while we were gone! I guess we'll have to bring MIL with us next time! I've already got my mom interested in DVC!
