Most inexpensive way to do our convoluted plan?

We are a family of 5 with three kids ranging in age from 13 to 7. This summer, we plan to fly into MCO and go for one night to Universal. Then, we'll be departing to Port Canaveral for a DCL cruise. Upon embarking, we'll then be traveling to Disney. We'll then take ME back to MCO.

Do you think it would be cheapest to pick up a minivan at the airport and drop it off somewhere in the DTD area (5 days) and pay for parking at Universal and at Port Canveral? Or would it be cheaper to do a combo of taxis/shuttles? I can't price anything out on Mears yet since our trip is a little more than 180 days away, and all of the options are pretty confusing.

TIA for any input!

Some info I've found....

You can drop the car off at the port and then rent again for your trip back,-one way rentals, especially if you're on a week long cruise, that saves the parking fee.

Using Disney transfers for the cruise for 5 would be $350. Not sure that would work unless you get yourself back to the airport before the cruise.

You can rent the car now and cancel if you find a better price, just don't prepay.

Having a car is a great convenience.

I would do a 1 day rental from. Budget at MCO, drop off the day of embarkation in Cape Canaveral. It is really close to port and has a free shuttle to the terminal. Do just the opposite on the way back to WDW. You can do a 1 way rental and drop off at the airport. Budget does not charge one way rental fees like most other car rental companies.
