Most hated baby names

We were just talking about how Daniel is the #8 name for boy babies in the U.S., yet I have NEVER met a baby named Daniel! Or even a little kid. Not one I can think of in our elementary school (although I don't know every kid, but I do know a lot of them). How can it be #1 in some states when I literally don't know a single Daniel?!?!?!? Any thoughts?

There are no Daniels in my son's school either. Having said that my nephew is named Daniel and my niece, his sister, is Danielle.

I think it depends where you live. Here we have about a 50/50 mix of trendy/classic.

The -aydens are very popular as well as the last name as a 1st name thing Landon, Hunter.

Then we also have the popular/classic Jacob, Caleb, Liam

Then we have just the plain classic, which are more unusual, but are usually family names, William, Daniel, Ryan.

I swear if I ever have another son I will name him "John." There are absolutely no Johns.

My brother's name is John. My dad too! :) It is a nice name.

Two of my boys have been on the top 25 names for boys for the last 20+ years - Daniel and Michael. My Daniel just turned 19. It could be that you don't know any Daniels because they are older. I got a lot of unsolicited advice about both Daniel and Michael because they would be "one of 5 in their classes". Interestly, there were no other Michaels in his grade until high school and Daniel was one of 2 from elem on. Now he plays baseball in college and there are 4 Daniels on the team - 18-22yrs must the age of Daniels, lol. There are also 4 Andrews but we never ran across any in high school.

I still really love both of their names and wouldn't change them if I had it to do over.

I'm 45, so take this as you will. I miss all the Matts, Marks, Johns, Dannys, Lisas , Debbies, Kathys, etc.

There seems to be a trend towards more formal names. Like Matthew, Michael, etc. Not to mention all the trendy names like Cameron, Taylor, etc.

I have a hard to spell, hard to say name. Both our daughters have easy to spell, easy to say names. I think there are enough challenges in life without the "having to spell/pronounce the name". When naming our dd's, I thought about them on the playground. Does it rhyme with something rude like "fart"? If not, it went in the consideration pile. Is it easy to spell/pronounce? Top of the list.

I've always liked that name, particularly the spelling you chose. Does your DD go by Allison or Ally? I think every Allison I've ever known has gone by Ally. I like Allison much better, personally!

I'm a 33 year old Allison. Growing up I always wanted to be called Allie, but no one ever did. It's always been Allison!

DH and I are having our 3rd boy and picking a name has been tough!

My college roommate my freshman year was named Bronwyn. She was the neatest girl, who carried that name very well. Unforunately she died of an aneuryism last year. :( When I have children, that name will definitely make the list.

I think Quinn is also really neat for a girl. To me its like the name "Taylor".. It can totally go either way and you can make the middle name feminine like Quinn Marie.

I like the name Bronwyn. I had a student once with that name and she was such a wonderful girl. She'd be in her 30s now.

I met my first Pharaoh recently. I known Queens, Princesses, etc., but never a Pharaoh. :confused3 Well, except for the King Tut exhibit......I meant LIVE Pharaohs. :rotfl:

I'm 23 and also Allison. My family all calls me Alli and a few of my coworkers do, too, strangely enough. My friends go either way - the ones I've known FOREVER call me Alli and the ones I met in middle school/high school/college usually call me Allison.

Another one here ;) I've always been just Alison. Not Allie and I never let people call me Alice, although they've tried. At work I have a nickname not related at all to my name. (and yes, it's been misspelled all my life, at this point as long as it's ok on my paycheck I'm fine with it lol).

I like the name Addison (although I didn't use it for my girls) and it doesn't sound masculine to me, but then neither does Alison.

I actually like many of the names on that list, I like Aidan and Addison and Hunter and Nevaeh. None of my 5 kids have any names on the list though. I think, because I live and work in places where there have been many waves of immigrants over time-from all over-I'm more used to 'different' names and don't really bat an eye. I've seen just about any kind of name. I don't think I really 'hate' any particular name, although there are tons that I'd never consider using.

I have an Allison. Her father, sister and I call her Allie. Almost everyone else calls her Allison.

Hi all you ladies named Allison and Alison :) My Allison just left for school...

As far as "trashy", I guess one man's trash is another one's treasure, and Kwinn doesn't even come close to my "trashy" radar.

ETA Aren't you the mom who named their child Bronwyn? I find it ironic that you feel compelled to mention the unique spelling of someone elses choice (and that they shouldn't do it), when you made that name choice for your own child. (Not that there is anything wrong with that name, its just very different).

I think Kwinn is just terrible.

Bronwyn seems perfectly normal to me.

I can say I have any. I just know that I love it. It is a strong boys' name. It means "God is my judge". I also love the Elton John song. I hope it doesn't become popular. My other sons' names are Thomas and Adam. You don't meet too many of those either.

My DD's name is CLOSE to the list...It's JADE. My DH named her and I named my DS(best way to keep it civil lol). It drives me batty when people think her name is, or call her Jaden. But in her class alone there is a Jayden, Caden and Hayden....No lie...And then there is just plain Jade.;)

DS's name is Landon. It is getting to be more common now, but I still love it.

FWIW, I HATE the -aiden names, but I adore the name Jade for a girl. It's spunky, but elegant :)

I think Kwinn is just terrible.

Agreed, Kwinn is an eyesore - a VERY UGLY one..

I love Bronwyn...

My friends have a 9 year old Daniel. My dad was a Danny...not Daniel and no middle name. I had creative grandparents. ;)

I have 3 sons and a daughter. My boys are Harrison, Ethan and Liam. When I named my Ethan 13 years ago, it wasn't even on the radar. Now it is super popular although we don't have any here in Florida.

After 3 boys, I wanted my DD to have a very feminine name. She is Lila.

We move every 2-3 years and names are very regional. I have lots of friends with -den names but most I find choose fairly traditional names.

I love all of your kids names. Lila is adorable. Liam was one of my top choices for my boys as well. Good job mom! :thumbsup2

It's weird how different the popular names are between different areas. I've never met a single person with any of the -den names mentioned on this thread.

As you can see by my screenname, my 9yoDDs name is : Nevaeh (Heaven spelled backwards), her middle name: Celeste. I can't imagine her with any other name.
My 2yoDDs name: Aubrey. I also have a niece named: Jayden
My name is Jennifer, I promised myself when I was younger that my daughters names would be different.
Having multiple Jennifers in every class at school, will do that to you.
