Mosquitoes on Castaway Cay and Nassau?

Hi everyone, we have a trip planned the first week of August for 3 days in the parks and three nights on the Dream (to Castaway Cay and Nassau). We are already nervous about Zika, but had accepted the risk.

But just now, I was on the phone with a 1-800 call center on an unrelated topic and the rep mentioned she is based in Miami.

So I made the mistake of asking her about mosquitoes in early August. She told me they are as big as houses and we would need to cover ourself in Off to go outside for even a minute.

Is this just a Miami thing or is Castaway Cay and Nassau the same way? (I posted the same question about Orlando because I am so nervous now).

Thank you in advance for feedback. I'm really hoping this is limited to Miami.

We were in Nassau and CC in July and never noticed the mosquitoes. Disney is pretty good about using natural predators to keep insects down.

On the ship and at castaway cay they have mosquitoes lotion out for you to apply (same as in the parks). We also have never noticed mosquitoes on either island, been during all seasons, maybe we were just lucky.

If you are or might become pregnant, Miami & the Bahamas are places to avoid. You can get bitten anywhere, and those locations have Zika carriers.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate these replies. I am somewhat comforted by the control measures at Castaway (and in the parks that were mentioned elsewhere). I just hope that Atlantis is the same.

We have no plans for pregnancy in the next year or two.

Apply anti-mosquitoes lotion with Deet when you go on land, over your sun screen. You'll be protected.

Never had a problem with Mosquitos on CC and I tend to get bit a lot. Then again have never been to CC after sundown when the mosquitos start biting.

But if the OP is concerned about Zika, those mosquitoes bite any time of day - not just sundown or later.

That said, I've never had any issues at CC. But I'm on the beach and not in vegetation. Nassau I was either on the ship or on a snorkeling excursion.

We were at Castaway Cay twice and Nassau once last week. We had no issues with mosquitoes or any other type of bug. As others mentioned, there's lotion bug repellent available to use when you get off the ship if you wish (we never used it).

I have an allergic reaction to mosquito bites -- and I have never had any problems at either CC or WDW or Nassau.

Disney uses dragonflies to handle their bug issue. I use the same at my house.

I am a huge mosquito magnet and it takes a mere second for me to get bitten when I go outside (got 4 yesterday in about 5 minutes). Never had an issue in some 10+ stops at CC.

For one, as others have mentioned they manage it well. Also, mosquitoes don't do great in wind so the breezy conditions along the beach tend to keep it clear.

I have never seen a mosquito on a Disney cruise, at Nassau or Castaway Cay in the 4 cruises we have done. Not a one! I'm sure they exist, but have never been in the areas we have been in!
