Does anyone know of a mosquito repellent that's safe for a one year old to use? I asked at the pharmacy and none of the brands they carried were safe for babies. Would Skin So Soft by Avon still work? I can't find the oil but I have the moisturizing gel.

TIA! We're leaving to Jamaica at the end of the week and they reccomend bringing mosquito repellent for everyone.

i'm pretty sure our pedi advised us to use deep woods off once dd was over 6 months. we use the wipes instead of the spray because we can regulate where it goes better. i never do her hands because she eats w/ them, puts them in her mouth, rubs her eyes, etc. but we do try to get the rest of her.

we also have been known to spray her stroller and her clothes because that is also effective - just don't spray any part that your lo might put in the mouth.

You can use a product with DEET on a baby over 6 months as long as the concentration is less than 10%. Adults can use a concentration as high as 50% but most products are only 20-30%. OFF skintastic for kids.

I have enclosed the link so you can look over the products. The towelettes might be the best idea so you can wipe them where you want.

I have read here on the boards that someone suggested rubbing your skin with fabric softener sheets. Like Bounce. I have yet to try this out but perhaps you could do some research on the idea.
They had mentioned that they told brides to use it on wedding days so they don't smell like bug repellant.

If you are a littl nervous putting chemicals directly on your baby, I suggest going to your local sporting goods store and picking up the mosquito bands. They are like the rubber bands everyone is wearing these days but have been treated. They really do work.

I own a wedding business and I tell all my brides to use a dryer sheet...it definitly does work. I use it on my own baby and my 6yr old. Just rub it all over and it smells really nice too. I live in Texas where the mosquitos are mean so I know it works. They also repel bees ants and mice!! You can look this up on the internet under "dryer sheet bug reppellent' or google it.

my youngest has a dysfunctional kidney (just one) and we were told to never use the spray. I was told that it tends to leave the system of babies very slowly and can cause more harm than i would help. I used the skin so soft on my family since then. Have a great trip!

I second the Burt's Bees. It worked in Belize when the 100% DEET didn't. It's totally safe. All it's made of are different plant oils.

Wow, I had no idea there were that many options! Thanks :)

The brand "Kiss My Face" has a great one and it is non-aerosol. We have it locally at Whole Foods and EarthFare.

We've used skin so soft, bug off, on our 3 dd's for years. My OB actually suggested it, and we love that it is DEET free.

Go to your local health food store and ask there. I found a small bottle of DEET free (and other chemical free) repellant at the Vitamin Shoppe- I think it's citronella based.

I third the dryer sheet option and also found an AWESOME repellent that we love. It's by Kiss My Face and is called SWY FLOTTER. Paraben and Deet Free, tick and insect repellent.

We use the dryer sheets every summer here in Cali and in North Carolina we used the Swy Flotter. Me, DH and my 2 DD's are the only ones who came home from a 7 day trip with NO bites!! After the 3rd day, I ended up spraying it on my 7 month old niece and 4 year old niece. Was great stuff!

I second the kiss my face one, we use it, and it works great, you have to reapply it more often but its all natural

its called swy flotter

Another deterrant: if you are taking a stroller, be sure to pick up a mosquito netting cover at BRU, it costs less than $5. I used it a lot last the summer and it's great.
