DH took DD to the park yesterday, during the middle of the day. They were there for about 1 1/2 hours and decided to walk on one of the paved trails.

It had just rained prior to their arrival and, unfortunately, mosquitoes love my DD. My husband received zero bites, my daughter...105. Yes, you are reading that correctly. One hundred five bites.

Poor thing is miserable. We've used Calamine, tried a baking soda bath, and gave her Benadryl earlier.

How else can I help ease her misery? Thanks!

Get a Benadryl Itch Relief Stick. I think it works wonders and misquotes love me too! You just dab it on and it stops the itch, at least for me.

105???
Where is this park? The Amazon? wow!
I itch like crazy with one bite I couldnt imagine 105

Ok this sounds weird but I swear by it, because I am one of those people mosquitoes LOOOVE.

Paint the itchiest ones with clear nail polish (it might sting if she has scratched so much the skin is broken). Some chemical in the nail polish counteracts the itchiness somehow. My grandmother's tried and true fix for itchy mosquito bites.

Before anyone flames me, I can't say anything about exposing a little one's skin to the chemicals in nail polish, so if you're worried about that then totally ignore me. But I swear it works!!!

ohhh nooooo :(

I'll be trying that fingernail polish for me next time!

I'd try an oatmeal bath! And some aveeno with oatmeal lotion!!!

when you do an oatmeal bath just get some cheap oats, put them in pantyhose and tie them off (So it doesn't clog your pipes) and put it in a bath and let her soak. it WILL help

Yup, clear nail polish works great.

I also hear great things about putting a dab of peanut butter on them.

Bleh, mosquitos! They got my ankles pretty good a couple of weeks ago. I happened to have a can of aloe spray I bought for a recent sunburn, so I figured I'd spray it on and see what happened. I actually stopped itching! I couldn't believe it.
(If you're interested, it was Banana Boat Soothing Aloe After Sun Spray Gel).

We use Dermoplast pain relieving spray. I got a small can after I had my second DD. It works wonders. We use if for almost everything...cuts, scrapes, insect bites, sunburn.

Chapstick!!

I know that sounds weird, but chapstick has just enough alcohol in it to take the itch out. It really works.

Jess

Try dabbing the bites with soap, just a plain old dry bar of soap (I use Dove). It works great for most insect bites and isn't toxic.

Give her some Benadryl. I am just picturing you counting the bites. Also, if she got that many bites, you should really use bug spray on her. West Nile isn't fun.

I found that the best thing for my children's itching was Vagisil, as it relieved the itch without stinging.

Of course, I had to stop using it on their itches after they started reading. ;)

We, too, use the Benadryl itch relief stick.

I would call her doctor.. maybe they can give her a shot?

Also Make sure you keep an eye on all of the bites.. If any get really big, red or hot, it could be cellulites. My daughter gets these huge reactions to bites. She scratches them and they get bigger and infected. As soon as she gets a bite she gets Benedryl. Then we wash the bite with soap and water and put anti itch on it. If she has already scratched it, it gets neosporen. Since we have done this she has only had to be on antibiotics 3 times..

I'm mosquito bait myself- and so are my youngest two kids...

Let's see- things we have used...
Aveeno baths- just to give that all over ease of the itch- they have an "anti-itch" formula
Anti-itch creams/ointment- benedryl cremes- that is what I use most often
Ice- helps a little until cremes kick in (but only really works in small area)
Dermoplast- yes I love that stuff too
Bactine- works like dermoplast but not as stinky- my kids prefer it to Dermoplast
amonia/windex- yep it does work- insect bites have acid in them that causes the inflamation and itch- amonia is a base- it counteracts. Please note that you should not put this on kids if they would put the bite in their mouth and you should keep it off the face to be safe.

As far as insect repellant- I have not tried it but I was told to create a mixture of vanilla extract and vineagar- and it keeps the bugs away. A Girl Scout LEader was provided this when she took her girls to a South American Rain Forest- their guide told them about it and provided them with lots of the mixture. They had to completely cover the body (naked) with it. Then put on clothing (dark colors attract fewer mosquitos) and then spray again on top of the clothing and any exposed areas. She said no one got bites while in the jungle and there were tons of mosquitos...

I just want to give her my sympathy. I was once at a twilight out door dinner in Michigan with long capris and sandals. I received over 200 bites in that small area - even between the straps of my sandals. I wanted to remove my feet for that week. Benedryl - oral - helped and helped me sleep. But really with that many bites, not much will help but time.

Deodorant with anti-persperant.

It works great!
The chemical i the Anti-P causes the body to absorb the bite.
No itching or burning.

Alot better than when I wass a kid. My grandma made us rub vnegar on our bodies

I second the ammonia idea! Back in the *dark ages*, those insect bite sticks had ammonia in them. I remember not knowing and opening one and taking a big sniff of it! :faint: Not a good idea! LOL! :rotfl:

Not sure what is in those bite sticks now, but they don't stink (so obviously not ammonia! :rotfl2: ) and at least for me anyway, they don't work all that well.

I got ONE ant bite this weekend and thought I'd scratch my arm off. :scared: Good luck with DD and her bites.
