I am thinking about applying for the Mosiak Westjet Mastercard...it has the airmiles option.

There is annual fee of 70.00 but you get 1mile for every 15.00
They have a 300 airmile bonus right now for signing up. :cool1:
And you get flights for as low as 1600 airmiles. A big savings over just redeeming for the regular flights on nwa ect.

I am a airmile collector-always have been-have redeemed for flights/admission tickets/car rental ect. So I am always looking for ways to
maximize what I am already doing-for example since the end of april I have earned about 900 airmiles on groceries alone cause I alway hit the bonus days and do my big shops then.

Anyways--for those of you that have this particular credit card--how has it been when it came time to redeem for flights-have you had a hard time getting the flights/times you wanted? How far in advance where you able to book flights? Have any of you flown to Orlando using airmiles tix from this credit card? :earsboy:
I am just trying to think of any reasons why I "may" not want this card-lol-so far I can only see the positives!

We have both Mosaik MC's (business and other) and the gold AM card. I redeemed in january '05 for may '05. from Moncton NB to Orlando with no problem. When I called they informed me that we qualified for a new program they had just introduced, which was 1400 AMiles instead of 1600 to the US. I was very happy to save some air miles for another trip.
Our only problem was we wanted to depart on a Sat and they don't fly on that day. We left on Sunday cause my other choice Friday was not available.

Hope this is helpful.

The only problem with the Airmiles program is that there is a limited amount of seats on a given flight that can be used for Airmiles. So booking as far in advance as possible would help or be flexible with your departure dates.

Hi, I have the gold card and used it the end of march to book tickets for Jan 06. During peak season seats are liimted to 2 per flight and after that 6 per flight. When I booked I needed 4 seats at the end of peak season so had to break up the travel party for a little while. Myself and DS5 will leave late tuesday, while my mother and DS7 leave early on wednesday. We connect in calgary for the same flight down to orlando. I have a brother we can stay with in calgary so no added cost for hotel and we'll meet mom and DS7 at 7:30a.m. for a 10a.m direct from calgary to mco. The only problem I had was 2 agents at airmiles telling me that I coundn't get the 4 seats needed from calgary to mco because I was already using 2 from the first booking on tuesday from saskatoon to calgary then calgary to mco. But I got a great agent my third time and he told me that there are only 2 seats per flight but because our originating flights are at different times the connecting flights don't matter. When using airmiles the only thing I recomend is have back up dates and if possible fly into a different city and have a short drive. My back up plan when I called the third time was for myself and DS to fly into Tampa and rent a car and pick up my mother and DS from mco so we could all arrive at the hotel together.
One new perk with card(haven't done it yet,but..) is free membership to National Car Rentals Emerald Club.
I have been collecting airmiles for 8 years and have been amazed how quickly they add up. In the last 3 years I've used it for 8 flights to LA to see Mickey with the DS's plus the 4 I booked to mco in March. With this new program with Westjet and Airmiles I almost have another flight for oct 06 to mco.
If you have any ??? let me know.

Thanks for the feedback!
I am aiming for having enough for 2 seats with airmiles and use my left overs for a few days rental car. I will have to buy one ticket for the flight for sure. I plan on flying during peak season. Well I better get my butt in gear--if I can book almost a year out then I am in good shape!
Now right now westjet has flights to MCO..what if I book my seats near the end of this year for Oct 06 and then they stop flying to that destination--any thoughts on this??
I am in Wpg so I suppose I will be backtracking to Calgary or off to Toronto as there are no direct flights from here.I hope we can all get on the same flight-if not I will put ds and dh on the same flight and I will meet them there.
I have Emerald Isle already-got it free from somewhere a while back-now I see that you have to pay for it!

Westjet flight schedules don't got out as far as other airlines, so you might not be able to book early as you might like. I was told by airmiles agents to just keep checking weekly and then every couple days when it got closer to time they thought my dates were going to be released. That being said I don't think you will have a problem with booking a flight and then Westjet stopping the service, because they tend not to offer routes they can't fill . I think that going through Toronto will be your best option as alot of the flights going to MCO, even from Calgary go through Toronto.

I have the regular "free" airmiles card which I get airmiles from Westjet when I fly with them. I usually use a TD Travel Gold card which I find to be much better (right now they are giving 7500 bonus points to sign up). For every 5000 points you get $75.00 off whatever travel you book. Therefore when I wanted to fly Westjet (Hamilton to Moncton) I was able to book the day and sale that I wanted. You see they have a regular travel agency just for TD and they use the Sabre system so you can get any travel related item that you can get at any other travel agency (including cruises, any airlines, tickets, DISNEY etc). There are no blackout dates or restrictions - if it's available to anyone - it's available to you. I find this card great and worth looking into.

Are WestJet flights 1,600 miles all year around? This is much better than the 1,900 for Air Canada flights during non-peak times. Do all gold AM card holders automatically qualify for the discounted 1,400 mile rate? If so, I might have to consider upgrading my card :)

Hey all;
I booked my flight from Hfx to Orlando about two weeks ago through Airmiles. Having just got the West Jet Gold card. Be sure that when they sign you up they don't send you a new airmiles card. If they do you have to call westjet and get the old card attached , then get airmiles to close the new card and xfer the points to the olf. A bit of a hassle. Anyway I booked 5 tickets for Feb 10th, had to buy the last few airmiles (350?) but it was still cheaper than flying full price.
Also 1pt / 15 dollars spent adds up quick.
Can't wait till feb tho! :bounce:

You need to have a Westjet Mosiac Mastercard to get the 1400 AM flights.

Sorry, I forgot to say that I have a Mosiac MasterCard. I have the regular 1AM/$20 but I'm trying to decide whether I should upgrade to the gold. So all gold Mosiac M/C cardholders are eligible for the 1,400 mile flights?

Have you considered the TD Gold Travel Visa the points can be redeemed for any carrier and any hotel stay and any car rental not just ones listed like with Air Miles. You also earn points faster and they redeem the points through a travel agent set up by TD. I like the fact there are no black out dates and we can choose the carrier and flight times etc. I also like that we can redeem points for Disney hotels not just specific ones like AM.

Charles - I agree with you (that's the point I was trying to make). It is definetly worth switching to. The one thing we forgot to point out is that you get 1 point per dollar spent so they really add up fast. I have flown twice to New Brunswick this year and I can choose the airline that has the cheapest price at the time (one time air canada, the next Westjet). Also let's mention that when you book through TD and you don't have enough points you can pay the rest with your Visa and receive 5 times the points on the difference. And oh yeah, a dollar costs you a dollar (not like buying extra airmiles).

I agree Barb it is the best rewards card going I love the no carrier restrictions and no blackout dates etc and you can use the points for everything on your trip unlike most AM type cards.

If I have a Royal Bank visa - can you walk into TD and say you want to switch or do you have to open an account at TD first?

You should be able to go to a branch or even contact TD via the website and change it over or transfer the balance to the GTV ( Gold Travel Visa).

the flight schedule from Winnipeg is very limited. We are always routed trough Calgary, Leaving Winnipeg at 7am and arriving in Orlando at 5pm on Wednesdays only. ON Saturdays you leave Winnipeg and have to stay over in Calgary, thereby not arriving in Orlando until noon on Sunday.

To return your only choice is Sundays and you can either go through Toronto or Calgary.

However, Thunder Bay has loads of options to Orlando on WEstjet!!!! almost a flight EVERY day. When I asked Airmiles if I could go through Toronto (or Thunder Bay) instead of Calgary, the agent said I had to stick with the WEstjet routing or else pay for 2 seperate flights (ie. 900 airmiles to Toronto and then 1400 to Orlando)

I emailed Westjet and said I thought the selection from Winnipeg was poor at best and they replied (!) that they would look into a schedule change but only if more people wanted the change.

I also have the Mosaik Westjet Mastercard and the AM do add up with 1\$15. However, unless Westjet increases the flights from Winnipeg I may not get to use the lower AM flights!!!

Sorry so long,
B
PS I love to scrapbook too.

I didn't realize that you can't fly thru toronto!
Most of my airmiles are earned thru bonus offers--in fact the majority of them are so I don't know that I would benefit from the td gold visa. Is there a website with all their benefits??

If you love to scrapbook you are more than welcome to come and join us sometime! PM me for more info!
