More Adventures in WDW: June, November and December Trip Reports

Great pictures of Kidani. I agree about the lobby. I remember being sort of underwhelmed but hey, it's still a fantastic resort.

Winter Summerland is so much fun! I love all the puns they have.

One of these days I'll have to go over to Port Orleans. I keep saying I want to but never get around to it. It looks like a neat resort.

I love WinterSummerland! :thumbsup2

As great as the parks are, its always nice to have a down day to explore :goodvibes

It's true. I'm having to re-learn how wonderful Disney is outside the theme parks. Aside from a few hours of exploring the resort and maybe an evening at Downtown Disney on the first evening, I'vebeen focused most of my time at the parks in recent years. I actually enjoyed just spending a day doing some other things around the World.

I don't know if "underwhelmed" was quite the word to describe my feelings about Kidani. I atually thought it was kind of cute- kind of a mini-Jambo House. If anything, it was a bit bigger than I imagined, but it just didn't have the same grandure as Jambo (but then again, what does?)

You've got to get down to Port Orleans someday, if for nothing else, at least to enjoy the boatride from Downtown Disney and have some beignettes at the French Quarter. :thumbsup2

I have not done either of the golf courses, but some of the guys in my family have. I enjoyed seeing your pictures, since it is somewhere I have never been on Disney property.

So is the putt putt course with in walking distance of Blizzard Beach? I have never done them before. I am going down in Aug by myself for a onsite Agent Education Program and I wil lbe arriving a day early. I was thinking of going to MK that day, depending on if I can get a ticket (Possibly free) But if I have to pay for one, I am debating on just doing more exploring and checking out things. I was thinking I could really look around DTD, since I usually am rushed there and don't go too far into it, or even going to Fort Wilderness and doing the campfire as well. Once the classes start I will have a 5 day hopper (the next day), but park time will be limited to us, as we are doing a lot of touring of resorts and some classes as well. I would like to hit all 4 parks this trip, but the way the session are, I may miss MK altogehter if I don't go on arrival day. Or only have a few hours. Which I guess will be Ok in the long run. This trip is all about doing and learning about new things.

Glad you enjoyed them. :)

Winter Summerland is right next to the entrance to Blizzard Beach. When you're walking from the bus stop, the water park entrance is on the left and the mini golf course is pretty much straight ahead.

That Agent Education Program sounds pretty interesting. I can't speak for the campfire since I've never done it, but if you don't have a park hopper until the second day, either Winter Summerland or Downtown Disney would be great options. I love exploring Downtown Disney- there are so many details all over it. Of course, Magic Kingdom does sound pretty tempting too. I'll be interested in hearing what you decide to do.

Well, I didn’t anticipate going almost a month without posting after finally getting this December report off the ground, but I did. Sorry about the long stretches without updates. I really want to get this report moving, but I’m afraid updates will probably continue to be slow like this for a while.

On a more positive note, I have a few more trips to announce that, if I ever get done with the December report, will likely become trip reports themselves someday.

townsquaretheater-600.jpg

First of all, we have Buzz and my May daytrip to the Magic Kingdom. I know it’s fairly customary to do trip reports over here, but this was sort of a semi-spur-of-the-moment thing that happened while I was on my break from the DIS earlier this spring. I’m not sure why it took until almost the end of June to finally say something about it here. Anyway, there are so many great things to report about this trip including new interactive queues at Haunted Mansion and Winnie the Pooh, new Tangled meet-and-greet and Town Square Theater, Fantasyland construction, “Star-eophonic” sound at Space Mountain and eating at a “new” restaurant. I can’t wait for this report to start!

simpsonsride-600.jpg

If the Magic Kingdom report wasn’t enough, I have another Universal Studios daytrip from earlier this month to report about as well! This June trip was a solo one (a Universal first for me). I managed to do many of my favorites from my last trip, plus a few new ones including Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, T2: 3D and Disaster. I’m debating whether to do reports for this trip and Buzz and my day trip to Islands of Adventure from February here or as a separate report on the Universal Trip Report board. I’m having a hard enough time keeping one report going now, I’m not sure I want to try juggling two. The day was so fun though, I really want to do even some kind of mini-TR for it.

jamboburd-600.jpg

Finally, there’s one more potential trip report in the works. My family has recently made reservations for a three night stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge Jambo House for the end of the summer! If all goes well, we’re planning on making this a resort trip with (*gasp*) no theme park visits! That’s right, three nights of relaxing at the Animal Kingdom Lodge with possible side trips to Downtown Disney, Universal’s City Walk and maybe even some resort hopping. We’ve never done just a resort stay before at Disney, but it should be fun. Who knows, it might actually be like a restful vacation!

That’s about it for now. Hopefully someday all of those trips will become reports as well. Until then, keep an eye out for more updates from the December trip. Hopefully I’ll get the next chapter up sometime next week.

So I somehow stopped getting links to your updates :confused3 I'm all caught up now though!

Your Kidani pictures are wonderful and we always enjoy Winter/Summerland. We prefer it to Fantasia.

Aren't those new queues great?! I can't wait to see your pictures :) How wonderful to be planning a visit to AKL! A relaxing resort stay sounds perfect!

I think you should stick your day trip TRs here so I don't have to go searching everywhere :rotfl:

3 nights at AKL sounds so relaxing!! :thumbsup2

Ooooh! I hope they al lbecome TRs. But I know what you mean. The yare a lot of work. I also did a dining report from Trip and it was hard juggling them both till I got the dining one done. Then we went on a day trip to Cedar Point and I did a day TR on that...again, really hard to keep both going and getting it updated in any timely matter.
I do love your TR's though, so anything you give us, I will take!

Glad that you're all caught up. How seird about the updates.

I agree- I think we all liked it better than Fantasia, which we did many years back. I can see us going back to Winter Summerland a lot sooner than Fantasia.

I really liked the new queues- especially Haunted Mansion. Can't wait to post those pics. And I think that trip to AKL will be just what we need. It's been a busy summer for all of us so far and a little rest and relaxation should help a lot.

Well, that's one good reason to put the Universal reports here. At the very least, I'll do the full reports over there and maybe post a few photos and thoughts here and have a link over to the Universal TR board. Either that or post everything here. I'm torn.

Thanks. I'm trying to simplify these reports a little to try and get them out quicker. I don't think it's working right now thought.

I should have the next chapter of the December TR up sometime next week. I have all the photos uploaded and I just need to get the report written up.

flynn-600.jpg

On a completely different topic of character news, word had been going around the internet that as of Sunday July 3, Flynn Rider will be leaving the Tangled Meet-and-Greet at Magic Kingdom. Apparently, he will no longer be a regular character in the park, but will still make appearences at the Halloween and Chrtistmas parties. It's pretty disappointing that such a new (and popular) character is leaving the park so soon. I'm really glad that I was able to meet him and Rapunzel back in May.

naveen-600.jpg

Along the same lines, it's sounding like Prince Naveen might also be getting reduced meet-and-greet appearences. I've heard that he might be disppearing completely or that he might just be appearing with Tiana in the afternoons.

I appologize for popping in with disappointing news, but I thought this might be helpful for those planning on trips. Plus, I think I just want any excuse for posting a few character photos, since I haven't posting any new ones on this report since February! :scared1: Anyway, keep an eye out for the new chapter.

It really is disappointing that they are removing Flynn and Naveen. Like I said on my TR (which I also need to get going on...:rolleyes1) I am so glad we were able to meet both of them.

That's awesome you might be going at the end of the summer. I really wish I had a trip planned. Even though it's hot it was nice having something to look forward to the last two summers. I'm going to have to live vicariously through my sister since she'll be moving down for the CP at the end of August.

It's sounding like Naveen is staying at least in the afternoons, but Flynn has already had his last day. It's very disppointing that he's gone already. :sad2:

I'm really looking forward to our summer trip. Things are starting to come together for it. I'll probably start at PTR for it pretty soon (although, it will be pretty sad starting a PTR when I still have half a TR and three day TRs still to work on).

We were so bummed to hear that Flynn was leaving before we ever got to meet him. And now Naveen?! :sad2: The "princes" are much more fun and engaging than the princesses IMO

I still can't believe that they're cutting him so soon. He's supposed to be back for the Halloween and Christmas parties, so at least he's not gone for good. Naveen is disapponting too, but at least it sounds like he'll still be out some.

In less than 15 minutes, we had made it from Winter Summerland all the way to the EPCOT resort area. The first stop was the Swan resort. The walk from the Swan to the Boardwalk was pretty short, so we figured it would be easier to just get off there than have to stop at the Yacht and Beach Club before getting to the Boardwalk bus stop.

boardwalktr1-600.jpg

Along the way, we got a lovely view of the Dolphin resort.

Since this was meant to be more of a relaxing play-it-by-ear day, we didn’t have any ADRs, but figured we would be able to get into one of the restaurants around Crescent Lake. We decided on the Big River Grill and Brewing Works on the Boardwalk. There wasn’t a table ready when we got there, but the wait was only around 20 minutes, so we took the opportunity to do a little exploring around the Boardwalk.

boardwalktr2-600.jpg

Our first stop was the nearby shops on the Boardwalk. I continued my search for any sort of Tangled pin but couldn’t find any.

boardwalktr3-600.jpg

I know I’ve probably mentioned it time after time, but I love the theming at the Boardwalk. Out of all the Disney resorts I’ve stayed at, it’s definitely my favorite.

boardwalktr4-600.jpg

The windows of the shops were all decorated for Christmas.

boardwalktr5-600.jpg

After a bit of browsing in the shops, Buzz and Mom decided to check out the model room at the Disney Vacation Club open house. They seemed impressed, but not enough to seriously consider the Vacation Club. I set off to do a little more exploring. The Christmas tree near the center of the resort was a must-see.

boardwalktr7-600.jpg

One of the elephants around the pool area. Even though we’ve stayed here a few times, we’ve never actually swam in the pool. Of course, we’ve only stayed there in December, so that explains that.

After a while, the four of us all managed to meet up again at the gift shops and headed over to Big River Grill once our table was ready. We had been to this Big River years and years ago and enjoyed it then, so it was nice to revisit it. The décor of the restaurant is pleasant but nothing spectacular (hence- no pictures), but it did have a nice view of the Yacht and Beach across Crescent Lake. Most of us opted for sandwiches or burgers. I had the Kobe burger and enjoyed it. As far as full service burgers go, it was better than most I’ve had. I didn’t have the feeling that I was eating an overpriced Applebee’s entre like I have at other restaurants on-property. After lunch, I still had some room for dessert (which is fairly unusual for me) and something called the “Chocolate Confusion” caught my eye, so Buzz and I got one to split. It was a mix of chocolate mousse and Oreo brownie cake with chocolate icing and chocolate chips. It was almost chocolate overload, but so delicious! All in all, I enjoyed Big River. It isn’t the most elaborately themed restaurants at Disney, but I enjoyed the food and the more relaxing “away from it all” atmosphere. The whole meal was exactly what we were looking for that afternoon.

boardwalktr8-600.jpg

After lunch, we headed up to the lobby to see some more of the resort’s Christmas decorations.

boardwalktr9-600.jpg

The Boardwalk’s traditional gingerbread tableau was on display in the lobby. Daisy Claus made sure to check her list. I assume she checked it twice.

boardwalktr10-600.jpg

Santa Donald was stuck in the chimney while pastry chef Stitch seemed to be doing as much eating as baking.

boardwalktr11-600.jpg

Christmas garlands were hung over the lobby’s fireplace.

boardwalktr12-600.jpg

I tried to get a few shots of the elaborate miniature amusement park in the lobby. This one was my favorite photo of the bunch.

boardwalktr13-600.jpg

One of the vintage Mutoscopes scattered around the hallway to the Boardwalk Inn. A couple of them still work!

boardwalktr14-600.jpg

One of my favorite spots in the resorts- the Bell Vue Room. In the evening, it’s the resort’s lounge, but in the morning they do a counter service breakfast there. It was so wonderful starting the day with a breakfast pastery while listening to vintage radio shows from the 30s and 40s in this cozy little nook. It was pretty empty at this point of the day, so I was able to get a few photos of it.

boardwalktr15-600.jpg

As much as I would have loved to spend more time at the Boardwalk, there were other placed that we wanted to visit that day, so we decided to head on towards the Beach Club to enjoy some of their Christmas decorations.

Next Chapter: Holidays at the Yacht and Beach Club.

The Boardwalk is one of my favorite resorts so I absolutely love your pictures! :thumbsup2 I'm glad you enjoyed Big River Grill. I never seem to hear positive reviews so it was nice to hear something good about it :)

Great pictures. I just love the boardwalk area, especially at Christmas time.

I had no idea some of the Mutoscopes actually worked. I'll have check those out next time!

I can't wait to hear about your resort-only stay. That is super intriguing to me, though I'm not sure I could be so close to the parks and not go!

Loving the pictures. It's nice to see a few holiday pictures in July!

Hi there, I'm back from my self-imposed DIS hiatus and trying to catch up on TRs.

I'm sad I never will get to meet Flynn but as I still haven't seen Tangled not completely sad yet. I am sad about Prince Naveen though, he was a great character to interact with, I hope he keeps showing in the afternoon and doesn't go away like Flynn.

Boardwalk is such a beautiful resort, I really want to stay there again.
