Moral Question - Mugs

Here are the facts:

I feel strongly that each refillable mug should be used at the resort of purchase only, for the length of stay only, BUT:

I stayed at BCV for one night, purchased a BC refillable mug, and used it twice. It did not fit into the cupholder of my car, and the full beverage turned over and spilled on my car's carpet both times.

I moved to Wilderness Lodge for two nights, purchased a new WL refillable mug and it used it several times during my stay at the Wilderness Lodge only. It fit nicely in my cupholder, and there were no spills.

I moved back to the BCV for three nights, and used the BC mug two or three more times, when I remembered to bring it from my room and when I also remembered to wash out my Wilderness Lodge cup so I could transfer my Diet Coke from the "spillable" mug to the "spillproof" one.

Now, I am going back to BCV for two or three nights in August. Just this once, do you think I could sleep soundly at night if I brought my BC mug back with me and used it during my stay? On this trip, we would be using Stormalong Bay, so not as much driving and less need to worry about spillage.

I may have already answered myself in my first sentence, as I really do get bothered by chronic mug abusers. But another part of me says, "You're at about $2.50 - $3.00 per use now, and it doesn't quite feel like cheating in this case."

This is a light-hearted question - the chances being excellent that I will forget to pack the mug anyway, but I'm curious - justified to reuse or not?

Go ahead and reuse it. To be perfectly honest I reuse my BC mug every trip to BC. Although I do feel very justifed in that when I bought my mug about 4 years ago there was a sticker on the wrapper that said "Lifetime free refills". I know that they have since changed the rules, but I feel that Lifetime means lifetime and I assume that since I bought my mug when there was a lifetime refillable rule that I am grandfathered in!

I'd like to think I have a pretty decent values system and it wouldn't bother me any more than it bothers Disney to charge the prices that they charge for ice cream bars, sodas, pastries, etc. I bet ME and Company don't lose any sleep at all over that.

They didn't mind charging you to buy another mug at a different resort just because the first one didn't fit the car holder, did they? Enjoy the coffee.

Hold onto your hat boys and girls, this one might get rough!

I say to each his own. I only have bought mugs once and probably never would again because I think they don't hold enough to justify me walking all the way to the dang refill station every two minutes to get more and the original size didn't fit at all in the car.

Use the cup and enjoy counting all the little sparkles on the ceiling all night!

Okay, I know I am blond, but I don't get it? Sparkles on the ceiling?

You know, the little glittery stuff in the plaster on the ceiling that Liz will be staring at all night long!

Because she won't be able to sleep at night if she reuses her mugs :rotfl:

See I told you it was a blond moment!

When we bought our MUGS at Dixie Landing (in 2000, prior to purchasing DVC) we were told they were Lifetime Refillable at any resort. I specifically asked them at that time if that meant we could refill them at any resort we stayed at in the future.....and the cashier said YES.

With that said, we have been back to WDW 3 times and have never brought them back or remembered to bring them back. Becuase we are not COKE drinkers, so we now rent a car to stop at the grocery store or for the first time this year plan on using wegoshop to buy water and PEPSI PRODUCTS.

If you even need to ask, then I think you have your answer.

I agree with Dr. P. If you have to ask.....

Let's face it, RIGHT is RIGHT and WRONG is WRONG.

The way my family handles the mug issue is as follows......

I show my kids how to lean over backwards in front of the soda fountain, and then press the button as I open my mouth below the jet of soda. If you practice, you will release the button before you suffer overflow, thus maintaining a safe, sanitary, economical and MORAL solution to the 'mug question'

I lift up my younger DD-4, as she is too short to do this maneuver her self.

I want to point out, that this technique works out at EACH DVC resort!

Although, coffee and hot chocholate can be problematic!

As a believer in controlled anarchy, I say go for it and grab a handful of pool towels on the way back to the room too, just for good measure.

I'm tempted to say that with all the problems facing us in the world today, no one should be angsting over whether or not to reuse a Mug.

But that would be rather unkind of me, because we each face our daily lie with ehtical dilemnas and constantly make choices.

I am wondering if the Pope would get free refills?

I have way to many of these mugs, especially considering I don't drink carbonated beverages. I doubt I could ever drink enough coffee or tea to pay for even one of them. I bought long ago and was told with some that they could be used anywhere but the Beach Club and some that said only at that resort but forever....but the thing is that they are terribly bulky to pack and the old ones don't hold hardly anything. So I haven't remembered or had room to pack old ones and don't think it worth it for me to buy new ones.

So...fill up a few times on me! Rest easy or, if you are still in a dilemna, ask a nice looking CM if you can refill with your favorite mug! Bet they'll say yes and absolve you of your guilt.

i say go for it. we are staying at 2 resorts on our next trip and i will not buy 2 mugs. noway. its just not worth it. i may even bring our old mug if i remember from outlast trip at CSR. which was great. i can not wait to see SSR & VWL this septmeber

First, if you were told - or had a label - that the mug was good for lifetime purchases, use it and rest easy.

If you knew that it was for that stay only, then you shouldn't use it. It's not Disney's fault that you didn't use it enough to be cost-effective. That's like paying for an all-you-can-eat buffet, realizing you're not that hungry, and trying to justify sneaking in the next day because "you didn't eat that much the first time".

While I agree that this is NOT as serious an issue as, say, abortion, euthanasia or putting 9 people into a Studio, IMHuO, it's in the little choices of daily life that our true character is revealed.

Note to greenban: I've found out that those plastic funnels used for pouring oil into your engine make "mug-less beverage consumption" much easier - and less sticky!

Be well!

Ah just bring it and use it heck we bring one of every mug we own when we go so if we stop wat that resort we have ours with us. We even use non resort ie Dixie landings mug at CSR when we go to the peppermarket for dinner atleast once a trip we also bring our CSR mug and use it. After all it isn't like you are killing somone it is a drink of pop or coffee etc.

Current refillable mug policy is clearly posted in the rooms at All Stars (and I assume at all other resorts where they are available) and state that the mug is good ONLY for the duration of the stay in which it was purchased.

If you have an older mug (which may look identical to those being sold today) and it was purchased under the old policy of perpetual refills, then you should be able to use it AT THE RESORT WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED in perpetuity.

Anything else is petty theft. I'm sure that Disney can afford it, but then again, I suppose they could afford me lifting a few towels on each visit too.

Ok, here's how to solve the dilema:

Take the kids to a scrap-booking store, buy all the disney stuff you can find and a stencil set.

After a few hours of family fun while learning to decorate the mug, you should stencil the following in large block letters:

"Irrevocable and Multi-generational Disney Mug"

You'll be all set!! :)

The only other thing you'll need is the basic "Mug"
That's available HERE from Mugs of a Lifetime

"Irrevocable and Multi-generational Disney Mug"

Ah yes. I can see the attorney now, adding the mug to the will :rotfl2: .
