I am so happy I woke up early for my usual 7 am drop offs and no one is here and not a single phone call.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Monica - I don't understand why people are so inconsiderate.

Twinkie - Bummer about having to go back to work at school. I hope it's an easy. Like you need more things to have to do. What happened with your DH's job?

Marita - I did not know the Sound of Music was on. I love that movie. I think my Jeremiah does too.

Yesterday we took down the Christmas tree and other Christmas decor. Thank googness that tree is outta here. The smell of it was making me sick.

So the house is cleanish and laundry is caught upish. Now for the bad news...

My camera broke for reals and I can't get a new one yet. January has an extra pay week so as long as Chad has enough work I'm hoping to use that and some money the boys are getting from Chad's sister(they made a big dent and hole in the garage door throwing golf balls in there, so they owe us. ;) ) to get a new one. The Canon Powershot sx10 IS which has 20x zoom. The canon has the fastest shutter speed of all the "bridge" cameras, so I'm sticking with that one. It's about $340ish on Amazon. :scared1: My little bro got the similar 18X zoom fuji camera, but I could tell the slower shutter speed after using the canon. So I'm just going to stick it out for the better one.

Allie: I didnt know UAB was a doctor school. Does everybody hate them like they seem to hate Duke cuz it's a fancy schmancy lawyer school?

on a side note....why do most people hate people who make more money than them? Is it jealousy? I think people who work hard and earn lots of money deserve it. We had this conversation at work the other day.

One of the nurses was making some disparaging remark about a doctor b/c he just bought a really nice house. I said "If you made it through medical school, opened up a successful practice and YOU bought the really nice house, you wouldnt be complaining. He deserves it. It's not like he made the money illegally or even immorally."

whoops. rambling. who me???

Moo: Hmmmm. I didnt make the Colts are turkeys connection. If this is the message Red is trying to communicate, his name will be stricken from the family record and he will be sent to live with wolves..;)

Monica: Use this time to get more high scores in the arcade.

EVERYBODY: sup?

No, I don't think so. I don't really know that much about the school except that they are affiliated with the hospital in B'ham. I'm not sure that it is a very big school. :confused3 Oops, just looked on wikipedia and it says it's the third largest university in AL. :headache: Who knew?

I think people that hate others for making more money ARE jealous. It is just wanting what you don't have. It's a waste of time in my book. I just want enough to take care of my family, and have a little fun along the way. :thumbsup2

My DH and I had this conversation just the other day. Our DD was admiring some of the larger homes they are building around us, that cost $350,000+. I told DH I wouldn't want a bigger house because it would be more to clean, and I struggle keeping the one I got clean. :scared: He said he would opt for a smaller one with a smaller mortgage so we could pay it off and be debt free. ;) :yay: If I had gone through all the schooling it took to be a Dr., I would probably buy some "comforts" to reward myself for a job well done. Although, I think sometimes they get "too big for their britches" and get arrogant about it. Now I don't like that. Ok, now who's rambling? :rolleyes1

well, i opened this can of worms....

yes, sometimes they can get too big for their britches. and i am not about rubbing your good fortune in other peoples faces. that is mean.

but my brothers both make quite a bit more money than we do. i REALLY am glad that they can afford mansions, and new cars, and 3 trips to disney a year, and other vacations to exotic places, etc. etc. they work hard for what they have and i am proud of them.

have i ever in my lifetime thought "gosh, i wish i could go to disney again". of course. i think that is human nature, but i dont begrudge them those things. and i'm not a very materialistic person. so, "things" arent that important to me. i tend to find my happiness elsewhere. like at church. or with my family. and friends. and pancakes and bacon cheeseburgers ALWAYS make me happy

that is my social commentary for the day. i'm thrilled to share these valuable insights with you.

I toadilly agree BBN! I hope my post didn't come across as controversial, cause it was just thoughts off the top of my head. In real life, my mouth gets me in lots of trouble. :rolleyes1 It speaks before the brain catches up sometimes. :rotfl2: Maybe my fingers are the same way?

I agree that "things" are not what is important. You can't take it with you in the end, and how you live your life while you're here on this earth is what matters. :goodvibes

Hope you have a goog day BBN!

I hope it is easy too... or at least I do a good job. I feel like I am in college again as I spend some time every evening reading my textbook.

There was a miracle and he got to keep his job.   We found out the week before Christmas. We are beyond thrilled.

that is my social commentary for the day. i'm thrilled to share these valuable insights with you.

Who said the DIS was a waste of time? I agree with you and Allie. Didn't somebody else really smart say something about storing up your treasures where they cannot rust or fade or be eaten by moths?

Don't tell my husband but I kinda like Duke. I had a serious crush on that school.... it looks just like college should. Beautiful! I went to high school down the street so we spent alot of time hanging out on campus and it was weird overhearing kids say things like "Should we take the Beamer or the Jag when we go out tonight?" ...... however you could spot a med student a mile away. They used all their loans for tuition so they were not dressed in "couture" plus they all had kind of a wild look in their eyes (must be lack of sleep.) Also my daughter had her plastic surgeries there so that adds to my warm fuzzy feelings about Duke. We could see the famous chapel from her room.

That said, I would encourage my kids to make the same decision I did and NOT attend that type of school (no offense anyone who went to any real or fake ivy league). You can get almost as good an eduamahcation at a fraction of the cost. Just my opinion.

My first customers came at 8:31am. I did get an 7:45ish phone call from my first usual drop off stating he won't be coming. They celebrated xmas yesterday and she wanted him to have time to play with his new loot.

Info that could of been handy last night.

The other early bird, didn't show and no call.

Harumph!

and a bunch of strawberries!

bbn - Red made a Colts turkey? Hmmmmm. Was he trying to tell you something about the team?

:rotfl:

I like what's been said about the money stuff so far.
although I do tend to think that people who are born with money don't quite get how hard it is for the other half.
most of the friends I've had who were richie rich didn't mean to be rude, they just don't think about money.

favorite fancy schmancy story - I know I've told it before, but I like it so read it again and enjoy!
My second favorite lawyer in the world works here at corporate. I was late for a meeting with her because I was stopping at starbucks, so she and another coworker asked that I pick some up for them too.
I get to the meeting and the coworker that makes the same as me (Angel) says "I don't have cash on me, I'll bring you some after lunch."
I said "ok."
Lawyer says "I don't have cash on me at all!"
To which I reply "It's ok, Lawyer. I know how strapped for cash all you lawyers are. It's on me."
She showed up the next day with a starbucks gift card for me.
:cloud9:
hee.
I like being a smart astarstar.

So I've officially moved out of the breadman's house and back to the trailer with the goats and the harley davidson in the back bedroom.
:sad1:
and my shower overflowed at some point, so my bathroom smells nasty.
yay me!

Cel: did i miss something? Moved out? i just thought you were talking about snuggling on NYE?

Everyone must be hunting rabbits today.

Well they finally stopped throwing up....so I spend the day stripping beds and scrub bathrooms.

Nicholas is the only one that still doesn't feel well. I am trying to get him to drink more water, he has a headache too. I am sure he is very dehydrated. He did sleep for 16 hours straight once he got to sleep.

Mommy P-- to bad you didn't keep the other camera you had bought and returned. Should be some good deals on now.

Mony-- how rude of the mothers not to call and let you know they weren't coming. Do you still charge them?

Celery-- how was your Christmas? Did you get anything that he said he was giving you? I mostly got gift cards and chocolate this year for Christmas. Hubby did get me a Mickey Mouse gold watch, he got it on the boat when I wasn't looking.

Twinkie--:yay: on hubby keeping his job. Good luck on your new job!

Moo-- we got really wild winds yesterday too. Some places lost powerlines, trees on cars. It is still mild though. We were plus 5 today.

Marita-- did you wake up this morning with your new alarm? So an empty nester again. You do know they always come back right...

Babynurse- You took your tree down already?

Mony - I was only living with breadman temporarily for the holidays - I was convinced I could change his mind, but no luck.

Breadman update in general -
things are weird between us because he says he's still not in love with me, but he acts like it. :confused3

we always send kiss messages in text - so for Christmas he got me a silver hershey kiss necklace. it's very cute and sweet.

nab - no, no goodwill lingerie! shucks! :rotfl:

I'm just kind of down in the dumps because I could stand to compromise on the no more kids thing, but I'm not staying with him if he doesn't love me.
it sucks.

Now to get off me for a minute -
nab! I'm glad they're mostly feeling better. have you tried gatorade for nicholas? the watch was sweet.

mony - daycare parents suck!

Mony, people are so inconsiderate sometimes :sad2:
Twinkie, Yay for DH keeping his job. What a relief! :worship:

Nab, glad most of you feel better. Hope Nicholas will soon too.

I woke up just fine with the new alarm. I like it! I am now back to 4 alarms in total. :rolleyes1

And yes, I fully expect DD to come back sometime. DS did too at one time.

We had a small leak at the base of guest room toilet (which is actually the most used), (clear water), so the plumber came this afternoon to replace a seal. He was here for 45 minutes - $285 :scared1: This on top of having to get a new waterheater a couple of months ago (also a plumber). I didn't dare even ask the cost of that one.
Something to think about for your kids to get into, LOL, good pay and pretty much recession proof.

DH made lasagne today, which is always excellent (and he made 2 BIG pans full), but someone (not me) decided to buy precooked noodles. Never heard of them. But a word of warning in case any of you are tempted, DO NOT BUY THEM. I still have to personally sample them. Apparently the kids were ok with it, but DH strongly disagreed, which the exception of some on the bottom. This was your Marita Stewart tip of the day - YW!

Twink - Yay for your hubby keeping his job!!! I had been wondering about that too!

Mony - Sorry about MSU's GLI loss and your deadbeat parents this morning :headache:

Nabbie - TG for your family feeling better. I got gift cards and chocolate for Christmas too, but no Mickey watch ;) Did you sign up for another cruise while you were on vacation?

Brace yourself for more windy weather.

Cel - Why do some guys have so much trouble committing, dang it? :grouphug: I suppose it goes both ways, but I think it is a bit one-sided.

bbn and Allie - Think of all the money doctors have to pay out for malpractice insurance {shudder} - if they want to have a big house and toys, more power to them. I'll bet a lot of them don't have much time to enjoy them.

I just wish we'd had the foresight to buy a house with a family room in addition to a living room.

bbn - I think we need to see a pic of the Colts turkey :)

Marita - Glad to hear that your new alarm clock worked! Maybe I need one of those too :lmao:

Heya Moovers! How's everyone? I was finally able to read back and still have time to say hello...so HELLO!

DH and I took Boris and Natasha to see Mickey and Minnie's Magical Journey on Ice this evening. It was actually part of their myriad Christmas presents. Such fun, and so many characters. Did anyone else see it?

Mony, your daycare peeps are pretty inconsiderate! I'd have an awful time not saying something about it to them if I were you. I harumph them on your behalf!

Marita, glad you survived Nicole's first foray into Marthadom. Good for her for taking it all on! I was about her age when I grabbed the holiday hostess torch from my mom and began running with it.

NAB, ACK on a houseful of beurkers! Glad you are almost all well again. Hopefully, the kids can salvage the rest of their vacation!

Twink, another ACK for you for being relegated to reading a botany textbook. Hope the new job is easy peasy...or at least manageable. Heck, I'm sure you'll do fine...you ARE a freakin genius, after all!

MommyP, the third ACK goes to you for your broken camera! I would HATE to be without mine!

Cel, how long have you and Breadman been together? Maybe he's just taking his sweet astarstar time building up toward "I love you"? I don't know his story, but maybe "once bitten, twice shy" applies? Just a thought.....

BBN, thank you, as always, for your words of wisdom regarding classism. Now what are your thoughts on global warming? :rotfl: (1-4-3!!)

Now I have an ACK of my own. Yesterday, when I turned on my laptop, I discovered that a portion of the lower right side of the screen is no longer working. Plus, there are several horizontal lines which appear and disappear across the entire lower third of the screen. Alas, poor laptop is nearing the end of its long journey, I fear. Cry with me, friends! Waaaaaaaaaah!

My DD and I saw it, and loved it. I am working on posting those pics on my FB, so I'll share.

It was cool to see Peter Pan and the kids fly through the air over the audience.

Gotta go! DH wants to go for a walk with one dog (Shadow). CYA! ;)

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
AACK, EEK, YIKES, and whatever else applies! I feel for you, Lynette! You know I ran out the next day to get a new laptop when mine died.
At least you should be able to get great deals now. I love my Compaq Presario, it was on sale even back in October for $449, and it does all I need, even working on huge spreadsheets for work.

But I know the timing sucks, right after Christmas

And MommyP, I was neglectful about your camera dying. That majorly sucks too  You take such great pics too! I took some picture of my xmas eve party, the crowds, early on. Then the battery died! :headache: But better than the camera dying anyday.

PS to everyone, if you get a chance, please stop by MTK's report today, she needs some major hugs and cheers.

Lynette, are you on FB? Do you need to be my friend?

Allie, we did the friend thing last week. Dontcha remember the flurry of PMs regarding DIS life vs. Facebook life? Think, think........;)

Oh, and please let us know when you get your pics posted.....I wanna see!

Marita, I KNOW....as soon as I came to grips with the idea that my laptop was on its last leg, I thought of you and how you replaced yours immediately. I spent a good portion of my online time yesterday looking at my options. None of them are less than spendy, unfortunately. One possible idea is to have Crazybossman buy me one using his small business account with Dell. Considerable discount there, at least. Ugh. And EEEK, ACK and YIKES as well! Thanks for the tears of sympathy!

Forgot to say that today is our puppy Mojo's 1st b-day. Boris and Natasha want to have a puppy-friendly cake for him on New Year's Day, since we weren't home tonight to give him a "proper" celebration. ;-{

Yikes, Lynette, on your laptop! Hope it's just a temporary glitch.

Knock on wood, I have had screen issues once in a while due to too much pressure on the screen, but they have gone away when I wiggled the cover.

Alas, I have no little ones to take to Disney on Ice shows ;)

Goog luck, Lynt, hope it works out! I know the horror of being without!

Especially since I am all alone at night anyway. So this is my company, both for work (after 4) and chat.

DS left with a game controller in hand about 5pm today and confiscated my car. Which is fine with me, he is not in town for 2 weeks to visit his poor old mother, LOL. Hope he is having fun. At least I know he doesnt drink, so Im not worried about that. Did ya'll know that you will get thrown out of the military if you get a DUI? It's a great insurance policy for a mother :)
