And you should see this hamster. It is the most absurd hamster you have ever seen. Which is of course why I picked him. I bet I can find a picture of him on Eren's facebook. Now there's a goog use of my time.

Apparently Obama and I are on the same page...who knew?

Obama gives chilly reception to canceled school

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama is poking fun at Washington's penchant for closing schools at the sight of the first snowflake.

The veteran of many frigid Chicago winters expressed disbelief Wednesday when his daughters woke up to find that their classes had been canceled.

Schools in Washington and the surrounding suburbs either opened on a delayed basis or scrapped all their classes because of icy conditions.

Obama said he wasn't the only one who was incredulous. His daughters said school in Chicago is never canceled and students even go outside for recess.

Obama's daughters attend the private Sidwell Friends School.

Yeah, I've wasted a lot of time on there recently. My high school friends have dug in their picture gallery's and tagged me. Luckily it wasn't too bad. You can have a look, and :rotfl: if you want. ;)

Thanks for that useful post Peej! Of course, the nosyness in me is going to go google the school of course. :rolleyes1

OH MY STARS!!!!!! Tuition for that school is $28,000!!!!!!!!!

I don't plan to spend that on my kids when they go to college! Harumph!

I don't know that this one really captures the fluffiness.

This one might be better.

The only time more people have ever been without power was during the windstorm. Okay, fine, the no school is legitimate. I think I'm going to drive to Cincinnati. No joke.

Allie, I'm sure it's a fancy schmancy school. :snooty:
p.s. when is facebook NOT a goog use of one's time?

I think him sending his daughters to a private school speaks volumes for how he feels about our public school system. So what's he going to do about it is what I would like to know. Maybe he should send his kids to the local public school and donate the $56,000 to a suffering school.

Yeah, our tax dollars well spent!

I love it!!! Although, now I have so many friends that it is hard to keep up with folks now. If any of you post something note worthy, you need to POKE me or sumpthn'.

Oh my goodness! that hamster is adorable!
is he nice?
does he bite?
I hope he survives.
:guilty:

I don't really have many friends on there, but it can be fun from time to time.

He is the nicest hamster I have ever met. My kids are of course less than gentle with him (they try, they just get excited) and he has NEVER bitten one of them. We had many hamsters growing up and I've never had one as friendly as him. The kids will be working on the floor and he'll just sit in their laps and sleep. I know he had plenty of water, I just don't think he has any food. It's one of the kids jobs to feed him and I really doubt that happened on Monday based on the kid who was supposed to feed him. I figured I would take care of it Tuesday morning.

I don't think they require food everyday. They can go for several days without it. With all that fur, he should be fine with staying warm even without heat.

I don't have "lots" compared to some of my friends, but when you get to be as old as I am, you come across quite a few folks through the years.

Plus some of my sons friends asked to be my friend, so I must be remotely "cool", right? ;)

Yeah, our tax dollars well spent!

Sorry, Allie, that's not tax money, BO pays for it from his own money.

I dont remember ever having snow days in Germany, but we had HEAT days due to no A/C anywhere.

Could hampster, PJ!

I am very frustrated right now. The boss wants Asst. #2 to do the forecast this month, and we had all sorts of unusual things to incorporate this month, which is very frustrating to me because it has been taking a ton of time and so we are way behind, and Asst #2 is very slow because she has never done it before.
I basically have to wait till she gives up, and probably will have to work very late tonight. Knitfreak is taking a lot longer to get things into the forecast system too, because of all the extra things she had to do. So I'm just waiting........

Alright, peeps.
I need Universal/Islands of Adventure tips.
What's not to miss?

I've never been.

Islands of Adventure is one of our favorite theme parks. The spiderman 3-D ride is awesome. So are the fire and ice dragon coaster, the hulk coaster, doctor doom's fear fall, dudley do right's log ride, and popeye's water ride.

at universal, dont miss Men In Black, The Mummy, and Jaws is a great classic.

:(

1. Can you send babycow to rescue the hamster?

2. she's a tough cowgirl sort!

3. and the babies are gonna need birthin, so she'll be out.

4. (I can so picture Elisabeth riding up on a horse and saying "Well hello there, little fluffy. I'm here to rescue you!" in a John Wayne accent)
:rotfl2:

1. Bring me your tired, your worn, your frozen to death rodents...

2. why i can throw a 50 lb bale of hay and not blink an eye, rope a steer while riding bareback, and saddle a horse in 2 minutes flat. lol

3. actually i did go out. for dog food and donuts. duh. and i shoveled the driveway. which wouldnt have been so bad, if it had just been snow, but underneath the 4 inches of snow was 2 inches of ice and then 2 inches of snow under that. and then Red and I rode our Mickey Mouse sleds down the little hill on the back of our property.

4. actually it's more of a Clint Eastwood..."Go ahead Cookie, make my day.":upsidedow

perhaps I'm going stir crazy but the image of bbn riding across the bridge on a horse on her way to rescue a hamster really made me laugh.

:sad2: you are stir crazy and just plain crazy, but not plane crazy. wasn't that the name of one of Mickey's first cartoons? I have a pretty good memory. Somebody google.

Our power cant make up it's mind if it wants to be off or on. It's obviously on for now. Keep your fingers crossed it stays that way. My family does not have power at their house. Neither do the in-laws, which I guess are part of my family.:crazy2: lol

:wave2: Allie and Marita

Well, I actually don't fault any president for choosing private school. In that case it is a security issue not just an educational one. I am sure it is actually cheaper for taxpayers to provide security at a private school used to serving those in these types of situations (Biden's grandkids go there, and didn't chelsea clinton?) than at a local public school. Everyone who darkens the doorway would need a background check. Think about it.

However the Obama girls went to a ritzy private school in Chicago (and it is a mere 18-20K in the elementary/jr high yrs) . And that is what speaks volumes about how they feel about education.

Sorry about the long night, Marita. That doesn't sound fun.

:crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2:
If I go in there on Monday and there's a frozen to death rodent I am calling someone else to take care of it. I draw the line. Either that or the whole cage is just going in the garbage.

Here's my favorite pic of Cookie thinking about you.

You are wIerd.

Last edited by TwinkieMama : Today at 05:37 PM. Reason: nursery school is only 11K....the curriculum per their website sounds just like the nursery schools here on the prairie
They're practically giving it away at that price!!

Oh, i don't blame him for sending him. I definitely think that it is in the kids best interest (security wise) for them to be in a private school. It's just that amount of money is unbelievable to me. :sad2: He tries to act like an American like everybody else, but he isn't if he can afford to spend that for his kids education. Now I'm not being jealous (cause that's what we agreed on right, bbn?) I'm just blown away, I guess.

Thanks for calling me cool, PJ! :cool2:

Ok, I'm off to THE CVS before church tonight. DS has blisters on top of blisters, on top of blood blisters on his feet. :crazy2: Got to go get more blister bandaids, and foot tape, so that the poor boy can walk. Why didn't he tell me before they got so bad! :sad2:

For the sake of marita's heath, the DVC program is now canceled. DVC members barely seem to care. Jim Lewis is missing, presumed hiding on an island somewhere with Olivia Newton John's ex.

How's that for the 10Pm news, Marita?

What?! No new ADT TR update today? B - You're slacking

bbn/PJ - Sorry I'm lumping you together yet again! ACK on the ice and its associated problems!!! What a pain in the astarstar :grouphug:

Hope Cookie makes it through the cold and the horses stay safe.

There was a sad occurrence recently in Bay City, Michigan about an elderly man who died after having a limiter put on his electrical flow due to nonpayment. It was supposed to allow his furnace to operate, but he apparently didn't know how to reset it when it overloaded and turned off his electricity. The city has removed all the limiters in response to the outcry over this tragedy. This story was picked up nationally.

Marita - Hang in there!!!!! :flower3:

Allie - What did your son do to get all those blisters? Ouch. (Sorry if I skimmed over that.)

Twink - You make some goog points about the security issues associated with presidents' kids not attending private school. Chelsea Clinton also went to Sidwell Friends. The world has changed a lot since Amy Carter went to public school in DC.

That was a lovely post, Steph, thanks!

However, the current issue is not DVC related. And if Jim Lewis is having an affair with Olivia Newton John's ex. the POX on him! Nobody is supposed to have fun while I am slaving.
My brain is totally failing me, I am hung up on an issue I cant figure out, and it should be simple. :scared: And that's not even hitting on other issues.
I may have to try and go in in the wee hours of the morning. HAHAHAHA, good luck with that, me who gets up at 9 am and shows up at 10:30.

But you know the old saying, "Time to make the donuts". For me it's "Got to make the deadline. Noon tomorrow.

I tell you all what, Im not giving up control again in a month when we have huge adjustments to make.....

And I am Brain DEAD!!!

Forgot to report on my "Hmmm moment" :scratchin from work today.

So, one of my work friends and I went to a brown bag lunch today (work-related film) and afterward we got on the elevator to head up to her office so I could pick up a recipe she had for me. There were a couple other people on the elevator with us, a woman who I know and a man who I didn't know, and they were chatting a bit.

So my friend and I get off the elevator on her floor and she informed me that the man used to be a woman  Now, I had noticed that the man happened to be rather short (maybe 5'4"), but I don't think I ever would have guessed about the change. All afternoon I tried to figure out whether I knew this person "before" :confused3
