I think I'm annoyed at the fact that we're being told we MUST have it on for those 3 hours. I think they should have let us know we were to talk about the inauguration with our kids and show at least a certain amount of it. Then the rest could be left up to us. It is an important moment. Making history. I get that. I just finished up my plans. We will not only be coloring Barack, we will also be working with our multiplication flashcards and taking an outdoor break. I will also flat out admit that I'm going to put it on mute for about 20 minutes so we can get our silent sustained reading time in. So fire me.

Did the same mandate exist when GWB was inaugurated? Somehow I doubt it.

Silly B! :sad2:

I discovered MSNBC as my new favorite channel. For reals! They had good entertaining programming on NYE when the rest showed rock groups. Yes, I am getting old.

Just learned that BO is keeping the Oval Office design, Cheney hurt his back moving boxes and will attend tomorrow in a wheelchair, and Michelle still doesnt know what to wear for the inauguration or the balls. I think I'd freak.

PJ - You may HAVE to have it on, but no one is forcing you to WATCH it. ;) See I can be sneaky that way. I think a goog game of Simon Says is just what the day calls for when your 8 and your teacher is making you watch some boring inauguration, just sayin.

Just got off the phone with Sandy. Yes she is stressed, but if everything goes well, her DS will be able to go home with them tomorrow. Please keep praying for them.

Twinks - Sorry for the beurking. :crazy2: Hope baby Gabe avoids said germs. ::yes::

Allie, thanks for the update about Sandy. Hope all goes well for her DS and the wedding.

I think tomorrows inauguration will be anything but boring (unless you are 8 of course)

Good evening, friends! I survived a weekend which dumped 17 INCHES of snow in my yard. :crazy2: Somebody call the Man Upstairs and tell him I said "uncle", 'kay?

I read back, and have been saying prayers for Steph and Sandy and their respective families.

I would give you all a group hug but I don't want to spread germs. Here, have an Oompa Loompa :clown:

Sorry about the beurkfest, Twink! Hope everyone is better STAT. Get poor Gabe a hazmat suit and keep your fingers crossed! Is an Oompa Loompa the DIS equivalent of tuxlove? Cuz I really must stay up-to-date on my smiley-to-English translations.

Wanna hear something stupid? OKAY! Tomorrow we all have to watch the inauguration from 11-2 or something like that. I would definitely plan on talking about the inauguration with them and watching a bit of it, but 3 hours? Really??? My 8 year olds are so NOT going to enjoy that. I found a website with Barack Obama coloring pages and I'm printing out oodles of those to entertain us through the ceremonies. Maybe we'll take a Simon Says break, too. Those are always goog.

Peej: Ack. And ugh. And maybe a blech, just for good measure. Boris and Natasha have been told that a portion of their school day tomorrow will involve the viewing of the inauguration and the surrounding festivities. I hope to heaven that it's not 3 freakin hours! That's just punishment, if you ask me!

Peej - 3 hours? That's just plain stupid. Those poor kids. I've never watched an inauguration before and I don't plan to start now.

I'm with you, MommyP!

Hmm....I'll venture to guess that you're right, B! But then, "Change has come to America", and we really all should be watching as it descends from on high, now shouldn't we?

I have had all the Obamadrama I can handle, I think. Someone ought to remind the media that it's an inauguration, not a coronation. With all the hope and change he preached on the campaign trail, I think the money being spent on champagne and caterers could have been put to better use. Oy.

Got your Obamamemorabilia ready for tomorrow, B?

Did you order your commemorative plate, mug, pin, t-shirt, watch, and magnets? A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, y'know.

Perhaps we could make a group trip to get Obama tattoos?

Am I the only one who thinks these are unfortunate initials?

Hey, our research guy at work officially goes by the first name of Bo! In Outlook even.

Our lil PeeJ is rebelling!!!!!!!!!! What is the world coming to? Where did the popcorn smilie go? I cant find it!

So I'll send this instead. :crazy2:

popcorn::

found it for you!! its just popcorn... with this added :: :upsidedow

I'm very very tired!! Its hard being around a bunch of 20 year old college kids - there humor gets old, wait, its just me!! I'm so glad we have a hotel room and dont have to bunk in Ryan's room!!

:grouphug:
thanks - I needed that - and I appreciate that Twinks has on rubber glubs and smells of lysol! ::yes:: Its sad that I think those are good old days compared to this... crap!

But, he's going to be discharged tomorrow (fingers crossed!!) and then the real work will begin. We still need to look at organic causes, we know he fell, we know he had no drugs in his system, and we know he didnt sleep or eat for at least 5 days! We know the medicine they are giving him are stabilizing him - and we know he wants to go home!

and my other Dear son is trying hard to get a "perfect" wedding, but if he doesnt shut ___ up.. I'm going to have to smack him (so much so he only talks to dh now! I can live with that!) He wanted to replace his brother in the wedding - he just has this vision, and he had to get the ceremony to the printers, shouldnt he "replace Ryan? I mean..." grrrrrr... DS got a bit upset when I told him, "If Ry got hit by a car and died, would you replace him? so easily? Hold his spot, I have FAITH, I have PEOPLE praying, your brother will be there, in a tux!!"

I guess I went a bit over the edge!! (and I'm not drinking) and I think we say crazy way too much!

prove it!

Of course I have. I do hope the best for our new President. Now is the time for all of us to support him. Even if I am still unsure as to precisely what CHANGE it is that he promised.

Atta boy! Srsly, I hope the best for him too. And I do appreciate the historical significance of his election. I am just taken aback at the whole cult of personality that surrounds him. It's a bit creepy. And I can't see how anyone can justify all this excess when we're facing such a dismal economic situation. Just my two cents. (Thought I'd add 'em before they get taxed and taken away. Heh)

Thanks for the popcorn, Sandy! :thumbsup2

More :grouphug: andpixiedust: for your family. Just try to make the wedding a happy day for all. It's one day, then you can go back to whatever else is pressing. Just keep this one day happy and peaceful for your family

Dang the dis gods for rearranging the smileys AGAIN!!! What is this world coming to, Marita?

Let's see....I guess I was 15 when he got inaugurated. So I was a freshman in high school. And I have no memory of the event. Then again, I don't have memories of a lot of events that took place in high school. Heh.

We got another freakin genius in the bunch.

I'll give you an amen, Immature.

This is why I keep you around. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

:

This made me giggle. I don't think I can say that three times fast. I don't know if an Oompa Loompa is the same as tuxluve. Maybe our resident smilie expert could shed some light on this....

Hey, our research guy at work officially goes by the first name of Bo! In Outlook even.
Bo is a name, common in the South from the name Beau. BO is something else entirely.
:grouphug:
thanks - I needed that - and I appreciate that Twinks has on rubber glubs and smells of lysol! ::!
True that! I hope the best for both of your sons.

Even if I am still unsure as to precisely what CHANGE it is that he promised.

As they say- CHANGE is the only constant.

Peej, when I was in 3rd grade(dang, I'm old) we watched the replay of the Nixon/Kennedy debate on channel 15(now PBS). It was obvious to all of us that Nixon lost. We survived, but it was a little over our heads. Last debate I watched in its entirety.
I get to work through tomorrow's festivities. Dang. As much as I supported BO, this whole inauguration thing seems quite a bore. I'd rather watch cartoons. But in general, I'd rather watch cartoons, so no surprise.
I paid for dinner tonight with the Disney Visa and ended up talking to the server for over an hour. She's from Yorba Linda, CA and until she came to BG, always had season passes to DL. She's never been to the World, but I give that less than a year. Too bad she's 35 years too young. :rolleyes2 Great to hear of Sandy's DS's improvement. We needed a little goog news around here.
Twink, the only thing more unfortunate than his initials is his middle name. His daddy never considered the possibility he could grow up to be President. Of course, when he was born, Saddam was an ally.

One of the things that I do remember him promising to change was the war in Iraq. Now that he has the authority to do so it will be interesting to see how quickly the troops come home.

BDG

Can I tip in coffee, L?

I think I figured out the reason we have to watch the inauguration tomorrow. I just added up the number of teachers who I know for a fact are in DC right now. It's going to be a building full of subs tomorrow! And subs always show movies! Cept I don't know who the delusional person was who thought this would be a goog "movie" for 8 year olds.
