Moonlight magic at epcot

You are correct it is only one reservation per membership however this is what I talked about earlier.

"This may be true however how many people know this is what might be going on.
Imagine you are unaware of this practice, you log on and see you are 9000+ in line, you think you are never getting in so you give up and log out. I know in the past this is exactly what I have done till I started reading about people being on multiple devices."

I also saw on a previous thread "Moonlight Magic Epcot link"someone giving away their unused link to lower numbers? Not sure how this would work if multiple people were trying to use it.
After the first person uses it, others are not allowed to use it.

If you look around on that thread, you'll see exactly what happens. In the case mentioned on there, a person who grabbed one of those links waited all the way through until the number came up, but when they were transferred to the registration page they got an error that the queue number was invalid.

The system lets you click on the link and see the queue count down, but the system will only allow one person into the registration page using that queue number. In the other thread, what likely happened was several people saw the post and tried to use the link simultaneously. Only one got in.

I just literally missed it as i was registering it went to sold out. I have never made a free member event in 24 years of membership….did everything right and didnt get in. I’m disgusted with the anticipation, expectations and disappointment. I don’t even want to go now. I know it wasn’t a guarantee but I figured at #9887 I was getting in. I may just rent out the rez and forget the whole thing. Lots of points, lots of bs.
When is your reservation?

So from what I understand what intaman and DonMacGregor are saying whoever is first to get in gets to use the link provided by another person?

It is for members only! What time did you log on? I logged on at 11am was 5200 on my phone and 7500 on my laptop. Got my 5 tickets for March 1st by 11:42am
Members and guests. Not all guests are members. Just sayin.

Yes. If I have an extra link to a queue spot I don't need (say I have two windows open with 526 and 1,234 and I use 526), and I share the second link online, anyone (and everyone) who uses that link (in my example it would be 1,234) will have a window open showing the countdown for that second link, but only the first person out of however many people try to use that link I've shared will actually get to the registration page. Everyone else will error out. Since everyone who clicked on the link should reach zero on the the countdown concurrently, I have no idea how the system decides who to let in.

It's a risk anyone who tires to use a publicly shared link takes.

I logged on before 11 and waited on the countdown and got ... 8400+ and 9400+. I did get my 4 tickets for March 1, but around 12:30pm.

This annoys me more than walking reservations.

How do you publicly share the link?

Sorry, I thought I was being nice by sharing queue links with other DISBoards members. Others have done this in the past to help other DISBoards members out too. But in the future I won't share them if it annoys people.

Wouldn’t worry about it, there is a lot here that annoys some folks …. I wouldn’t share it as not knowing the in/outs of how MM works I would be afraid that somehow DVC would penalize me for sharing … this whole thing has been a learning experience for us

You were. In the past many of us were helped by this sort of kindness.

Would hate to see the practice stop

Can’t wrap my head around people complaining that a bonus chance didn’t work out.

I logged on much before 11….got 9887. Was registering when it came up sold out. That was at 11:55 so i dont understand how you got in at 12:30. The whole system is bs to me. I already shared my opinion with DVC. Of course its all just too bad, but very nicely put.

I can’t wrap my head around the fact that people think its a bonus. We pay for every “free” thing DVC does for its members in our dues and ever increasing prices per point for new sales. That’s one of the biggest reasons why it is so frustrating to me that I can’t get in and haven’t been able to in the past. Anyway, I’m over it. Said my piece to DVC and have no plans of stepping foot in a disney park for awhile. Will wait til the grandkids are with us. Universal is now on my priority list of things to do. That and Discovery Cove.

Have fun
Dee

Bonus as in an increased chance to get into the queue

referring to the custom of members posting unused links in an attempt to assist their fellow community of DISers, not to be confused with my opinion on DVC. I’m sensitive enough to be annoyed over the vague eligibility changes this year.

Your frustration is apparent. I’ve not been shut out, yet. Willing to bet I’d be rather upset too

We’ve enjoyed split stays on-site at U since they revamped the weekend point structure ages ago. Enjoy, it’s a whole ‘nuther world

Moonlight Magic does not come out of our annual dues. You can look at your annual dues budget to see where the money goes, none of it goes towards events such as these.

You're right in saying new points for sale may be more expensive as a result of Moonlight Magic, but if you don't buy anymore points - you aren't impacted by this?

Moonlight Magic is funded by Disney Vacation Development which is the entity that sells points and is part of their marketing budget. It is a way to help entice new buyers to buy direct points from them (e.g. Guides can say: "If you buy points from us, you qualify for Membership Extras which includes private events called Moonlight Magic!").

Last Moonlight Magic I attended, they also introduced a "bring a friend" in which they gave you free luggage tags in exchange for signing your friend up to learn more about DVC.

Are these things that great that it bothers folks so much not to get in? Personally I doubt I’d ever base my entire trip around one of these or any other similar event night, paid or free. We were lucky (I guess) that the week we already were coming to enjoy our membership happens to have two chances at MM. We certainly would not be cancelling our trip had we not been able to get one or if they weren’t offered during our time at all. Why not just let everyone that wants to attend in? Guess here is that many of the annoyed folks would also be annoyed at the crowds …

Thanks. After a quarter century of paying ever increasing dues…somehow, somewhere….I’m (we all) are paying for the freebies. At least it feels that way.

I wasn't one of the people complaining that a bonus chance didn't work out. I was logged on before 11 also, and got 2 high lottery numbers - over 8400 and over 9400. My complaint was that others were sharing their links which resulted in people who jumped ahead in a randomly selected line.

I also logged on well before 11 and got a slightly lower number than you, but I just checked my confirmation email and realized that I got it at 11:53. I think I had been estimating 12:30 based on how quickly the numbers were going down, and then it suddenly went a little faster.

I am sorry you didn't get tickets. The first MM we successfully got was in March 11 2020 for June and we all know how that went....

I think the harsh reality of sharing MM queue links is this: for every individual potentially helped by link sharing, another is harmed. The events reach capacity every time. We're all equally entitled to attend, with the queue basically serving as a lottery system to choose who gets in. Sharing a link may increase the odds for one individual, but it means someone else loses out.

The distinction is this: If DVC ended Moonlight Magic, AP discounts, private lounges, free movie screenings, Halloween and Christmas character meets and other member perks, dues would not go down by one penny. All of those items are paid for by DVC.
