Ahoy Mates!

Today Monty the seadog, the fearsome plunderer of the high seas, took to the sails and commandeered a vessel known as the Schooner Fame . (Okay, what we really mean is Monty went on an authentic replica of an 1800's schooner and sailed around Salem, MA for 2 hours on a cruise with us, and some elderly folks from a retirement home who all thought he was cute as a button, quite well behaved and not really very pirate-like at all…).

Here are some photos of today's adventure.

In this first photo, we see Monty heading downstairs after we parked…he knew where he was headed, as this is where we always park when we go to Salem.

Once outside, we headed down to Pickering Wharf, where most of the boats that sail out of Salem dock.

Here, we got our tickets (2 adults and 1 puppy) and we waited in took in the sights, sounds and wonderful ocean air (and the smell of tasty seafood!) at the wharf.

Monty gets himself tangled up in his leash as we wait by the dock…Chris has to help him. What is UP with that face, Monty Dog???

And here she is, The Schooner Fame…the crew is getting her ready for us to board…

Monty says , Can we just please go ON now!??

MORE TO COME...

Monty Dog gets his life vest on, whether he likes it or not (it would be removed mid cruise due to extreme heat :( ) and heads down the dock… Everything must seem SO huge to him…

Chris and Monty stop for a photo right before we get on the schooner…

Once on board, Monty checks things out…

So much amazing stuff to look at makes a Monty Dog very tired…

We removed the vest and he seemed to be rejuvenated :)

I wonder if he could see the fish swimming around?

A FEW MORE...

Yup…he's a pirate in training…

He was mesmerized by the way the crew raised the sails…

And by passing boats.

Uh-Oh…Monty Dog says "I'm Tired!"

But I'll wake up to listen to the captain tell some pirate tales…

Now we're almost "home"…

I can see the other ship, The Friendship , docked in the harbor…

And just as I found Monty's Patriotic bandana in our backpack, and got it on him, it was time for another adventure to end…

(With a quick dip in his favorite fountain on our way back to the car…)

Thanks for sharing in Monty's day… We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

That was just GREAT, Sheri. I so enjoyed the cruise with all of you. And Monty is cool!!! :cool1: Looks like a great day, a great cruise off of Salem, what a way to spend the day!!!!! Thanks!!!!

OH..love those pictures. He is such a cutie.
Question...I am from Ma too and now have a dog that is part of the family. How do you find places to go that are "pet friendly"? We live right next to Old Sturbridge Village, and that used to be "pet friendly" but it isn't anymore. I am having a difficult time finding places that we can all go together.

Melissa

Thanks for another day in the life of Monty dog!

Oh, that was sooo nice! Monty Dog looked as though he was in charge of that cruise. You can tell by the expression on his face that nothing gets by him! The scenery in your area is really beautiful and I always enjoy all your pics. Thanks so much for taking the time and effort to post them. :sunny:

Awesome pictures, EX!

You and Chris make a very handsome couple (you are very pretty), and Monty, well, he's Monty Dog! So cute!

I really enjoyed the photos of the marina and boatride scenery, too. You've made me long for my seashore visit (which isn't until next week, bummer).

Thanks for posting. :sunny:

Is there anything that dog is afraid of? He is just fearless!

Thanks for the pix.

Hi Melissa,

We take Monty with us, almost everywhere. Most of the places we have found honestly have been pure luck. We'd see something that looked cool, and then call the management and ask.

That was how we found the Fame. :) Salem MA is a great, dog friendly place. Monty is allowed in pretty much all of the shops, most of the outdoor cafes and on the boats, except during certain peak times.

We also recently took Monty to Conway, NH and rode the scenic Conway railway. Dogs are allowed on that train except for in the first class and dining cars.

Dogs are also allowed on a lot of whalewatches and horse and buggy rides. We found this out through a web site called Dog Friendly.com

http://www.dogfriendly.com/server/travel/guides/us/usstateMA.shtml

It's a good resource, but I really have found that the best way to find things is just to ask. :) You'd be amazed how many places will allow well behaved dogs that don't advertise that they do.

:)

Aww he's so cute! What a lucky dog to be able to go on a boat ride. He looks like he had fun, I only wish I could take my dog for a ride on a boat.

You love the Jersey shore, EX?

Check it out--we found the greatest dog-friendly motel in North Wildwood called the Surf 16. We have a rather large "puppy" ourselves, Maxi-Dog, a labrador-rottie-pit and who knows what else combo.

We took him there last year and had one of our most fun vacations ever. The motel was filled with nice families and their dogs. My son (who will be 8 years old next week) took up with the owner's and guest's kids, and had the time of his playing. Our dog (Max) was beside himself with joy! He loves other dogs, and this place is like Dog City.

We're going there again toward the end of August. The week after next, my son and I are going to stay for a few days with my sister-in-law who rented a house for a week in Long Beach Island.

Check around your area. You'd be surprised how many places will allow dogs if you ask. :) They don't always advertise it, but many are fine with it, as long as the dog is on a leash, housebroken and friendly.

Thank you for another great Monty Dog post. :D All of the pictures are wonderful.
