Month of September - WISH Team Walkers and Runners

Just sneaking into the thread ... I keep saying that I'm going to post more often so I'd better just do it :)

Did my 5 miler this morning so I'm slowly making my transition to a morning person. I think if I'm going to keep running in morning, I'll probably need a light or blinker. I didn't realize that the sun doesn't come out until closer to 7AM. Going to do some more stretching tonight, my IT band on my left side feels tight.

Have a great day everyone :)

Diane - WTG on teh 15 miler! Cool about the girl on teh TM. I'm sure she was doubly happy that you shared in her excitement. I love those moments!

Lily - Please don't push too hard with the half this weekend.

Frank - Way to go at VA!!!!! SOUnds great. Thasnk fro the info on the new fall race.. Confirming someithing that won't happen is more news than any of us had.

Tracy - COngrats on teh good workout week. BTW, you are NOT a bad WISHer. It gets tough to blance everything sometimes. WISHers only ask tha toyu give it your best. No one expects you to be SuperWOman, even though oyu come close.

Terri - Downhills are tough adn being cautious is good. Too fast and you can hyper extend your knee. SO good to see you!!!

Vicki - Good luck on becommign a mornign person. I guess I've made the transition mroe than I know, because I knew it can be dark at 7. ;) Beyond that, don't ask me what happens before then.

DId my LR this weekend. Not pretty, btu could be worse fro 6 miles after a huge race. Not feeling real confident in my running, but at least I know my cardio is there with teh tri's I've done. We'll see.....

Hi all!

Back from the DL half. I had a fabulous time in the race. My time was better than I even expected, a full 1/2 minute per mile ahead of my best training times. I posted under 13 minute per mile average for the whole race, which I walked all but the downhill portions of (easier to jog down hill than walk :thumbsup2). Fun stuff!

Yes, it was pretty warm, but we did have some cloud cover until about 8:30 am, so that helped a lot. Thanks to all of you who were pulling for us in the race, it really was motivating to think about that while out on the course.

Now I'm ready for another one! But DH made me throw my shoes out before we left yesterday for home. There was no tread left on the balls of the feet...

So time for new shoes and a new race. I'm bummed that the WDW 1/2 has been full for so long. I may think about the Princess.

Have a great week and good training!

Diane - Hard to remember that first TM run/walk. I do remember the first run outside my house in "training" for the inaugural Minnie 5K. I thought I would get at least to the end of the street - ha!

Tracy - Allergies seemed to be bad everywhere over the weekend. Everyone in my house kept sneezing and sneezing. I just kept popping Benadryl...

Frank - Great time in Va Beach! I really want to do that one, and it IS drivable for me. Like you, I'm being very choosy about what I'm doing. Even Indy is going to have be drivable, and that's gonna be a LONG trip.

Vicki - I didn't think I'd ever become a morning runner when I started, but now I find I like both times. Our Galloway runs start at 6:30 until the end of September, but it's hard to miss a group of 40 people even in the dark! When I run by myself in the early AM I do the TM. I'm a big chicken (or rather, DH is a big chicken and doesn't want me outside!)

Carrie - Not confident in your running? After all the training you've been doing? I have all the confidence in the world that you'll be absolutely fine! Do you and Scott run only, or run/walk? DH has been training with Galloway this season, so he's planning on doing Goofy with intervals, but I have the task of finding WISHers for him to hang out with!

Kara - Wonderful that you beat your training time by so much at DL! It's amazing what adrenaline will do for you. Not to cause trouble, but there are still race entries available for the Half through Anthony Travel and Marathon Travel if you're REALLY interested. You have to book hotel through them, but they can get you into the race. Just a thought...

Even though the weather was perfect tonight, I opted for the TM. Haven't used it in months, and just didn't feel like heading outside. Plus, I didn't have to crate the puppies this way (instead, I got to keep saying "no, Sienna, back off!") Did a relatively easy 3 miles in an 11:43 avg pace.

Jackie

Frank, congrats on the VA B event.

Kara, good job in DL!

Diane, you are doing great the pace you had is good enough for some pics along the way!

Terri, glad you did take it easy on downhills. I hate downhill.

Vicki, hope you've got good stretching. IT band issues give me shivers. :scared1:

Today was a Pilates kind of day. There is still time for more, but somehow I don't think so.

Hello Wishers! It's been a tough month so far, but hopefull it will get better. I got in 4.5 miles on Saturday and another 4 miles today. My 4 miles today was much easier, but my time was much better than Saturday's time. I actually felt like I could keep going after finishing my run tonight, but I didn't want to over do it.

I'm in a odd place for my training right now. I'm in the early stages of my marathon training with TnT, but I have the PDR in 12 days so I don't want to be worn out for that.

Congrats to all the Wishers who completed the DL and VA beach races this weekends!

Hi all. Looks like I've slacked off posting here. Seems like training will kick into high gear for everyone really soon in prep for January. I started my official training plan this week. Enjoyed my run across Mackinac bridge on Monday--perfect weather, beautiful sunrise.

My big news is that I am leaving GM, after 24 years. I have decided that I need to find something to do that I can be passionate about and really enjoy. I have no current plans, but will get 6 months severance, since I am "volunteering" to go. Others will not be so lucky. I feel like Indiana Jones in the Last Crusade when he had to take the "leap of faith" before he finally got to the Holy Grail. He put his hand over his heart, closed his eyes and stepped out into the abyss. Fortunately, he made it. I hope to do the same.

So looks like I'll have all the time to train that I need! Maybe I can also figure out how to make my dog (and son) behave! :rotfl2:

Have a good day, everyone.

Maura

Jackie - Thanks for teh vote of confiedence. It's just that we only do 1 LR per week plus a 10 to 15 min run after our long bikes during tri training. Sadly, we skipped several LRs. :headache:We do just run. Somethign was bread in our heads in hig school that walking is giving up, even though I know we were faster when we didn r/w adn I would encourage others to do so. (I know, messed up but it is what it is) I think my longest run since April was 8 and that was tough. Just don't know..... Hoping the cooler weather will help.

Maura - COngrats on teh leap of faith!!! DOing something youa re passionate about sounds wonderful, but I know it's a scary step. :wizard::wizard::wizard:

Hey everyone!

Training here has been slow. Hurt my back last month and manage to aggravate it at least once a week. Driving me nuts.

This weekend is Madison to cheer on IM WISHers Mike and Matt.

Liz where is Madison????

Maura, WOW good luck to you in your future endeavor!!!!! Tough decision after 24 years but you have to follow your heart!!!! When I change careers I want to work at the Canadian Pavillion in Epcot.....;)

Maura, Best WISHes to you for making the move. Lots of PD that you gind exactly what you seek.

Meghan, Good luck figuring your training schedule. Don't cheat your marathon training is the only advice I can offer.

Kim Madison is in Wisconsin somewhere. How's that for geograpy. I never did well with that subject.

Wow Maura--that is exciting--best of luck finding your new passion.

I am hoping that I will finally get my exercise-induced asthma under control after a visit with my allergist today--new allergy meds, a new inhaler and advice on waiting longer for the inhaler to kick in before running. If this doesn't work, then I don't know what I'm going to do!

Maura- Good luck. It isn't the same but when I decided to get my degree I had to leave a decent paying job and take a step back because my employer wouldn't work around my school schedule. It was rough but the job I took, with the big pay decrease, ended up offering my first computer job after I graduated and allowed me to live for a couple of years in FL. Sometime you have to either take a leap or even take one step backwards to take two forwards. I hope it works out for you.

I watched that disgraceful performance the US team put up in Trinidad tonight and then went out on a 4.5 miler. All the miles getting ready for the full are really paying off. Not only did it get me a PR but even after sitting in the car for 9 hours on Monday I have had none of the normal soreness that came with previous halves.

Liz - hope your back feels better.

Maura - good luck with the job switch!

Carrie - HI!

Training is going ok for me. I still don't know if I'll have a job at the end of the month (darn politicians better get cracking!), but I'm leaving in 4 hours for 2 weeks in sunny Hawaii. Will be doing the Maui half marathon on
Sept. 20th. Hope I don't get worn out with all my activities beforehand :goodvibes!.

I'll try to check in when I can!
Happy training!
Terri

Wisconsin? Wow, I thought it might be somewhere I might be able to go to, to cheer for our fellow wishers and see my friends...but unless there are Packers tickets included, I think I will wait to hear how it went;)

Morning Wishers,

Haven't got to post much, but I have been reading. Up to 11 miles now on the weekends and my back to backs have been a 4 or 5 and then 10 or 11 the next day. I'm further ahead of last year as my back to backs hadn't started yet. My "racing" season is finally close. Haven't done one since early May so I'm ready to get going.

Hope everyone is having some great training!

Morning everyone! Did my 3 miler this morning and some speedwork last night. I haven't been keeping up with the speedwork much - I'd been cutting it out and replacing it with straight mileage. Boy did I notice a difference yesterday, I felt really slow. I was suppose to do some training at the gym tonight but there was a mix up with the appointments and my PT has been booked :(

Maura - Congrats on your decision and good luck on your new venture! I'd been thinking about doing something similar ... except I wouldn't have the severance package so I'm working on saving up :) So no TT lounge this January - joking!

Liz - pixiedust: for your back!

Make it a great day everyone! :wave2:

Maura - Congratulations on the decision, and GOOD LUCK!!!! :thumbsup2

Carrie - DH had a hard time with the walk breaks too when he started with Galloway this season. Now he's decided he likes them, but he still wants to do a 2:00 Half as part of the Goofy. As of last week he's training with the 9:00 pace group. I'll just wave goodbye at the start line!

Was supposed to go out for 3-4 miles tonight with DH. Got home from work, weather was absolutely perfect. Waited for him to get home for an hour and a half. He gets home - not in the mood to run. By now it's so late that I've lost the motivation, so we're going out for pasta instead. I guess I can call that training? Hydration and carb loading are important too.

Jackie

Yeah, yeah, yeah, so much for my good intentions in September. I'm on limited internet time for a while, so I'm just popping in to a few threads. Sorry I'm not getting to everyone! (Diane and Liz...I think we need to egg each other one--er, encourage!)

Megan: More hugs for you and your family. It's good that your grandfather has so many people to take care of him and mourn with him. And quite a tribute to your grandmother's life. :grouphug:

Maura: Congratulations on your decision. I know it must have been difficult for you, but agree that, ideally, you should follow your passions. It sounds like this opportunity has opened up for you, and that you're embracing it (much in the spirit of Frank's sage commentary). If anyone can make that leap of faith, I think it's you. It reminds me of how you've been pursuing your running and triathlon goals--you are a determined, dedicated woman. And I think you'd look really hot with a fedora and a whip, too. Let's see, Indiana is taken. How do you feel about being called Alaska?

And in response to your earlier post about The Big Lebowski. Yes, yes, yes! The DOOD abides. (As does The Dude.) I love the Coen brothers!

Jackie: WTG with your running. You've been rocking everything, and this weekend's 20 miler will go swimmingly for you! Especially with the right amount of carb loading. :lmao:

Diane: Great news with your TM running. You should be proud of yourself! :cool1:

Frank: Not a pirate theme for the fall race? Well, there goes my plan to celebrate "talk like a pirate" day with a "run like a pirate" day. Dang. And I was already planning future costumes. In bigger news, CONGRATULATIONS on breaking your 90 minute mark, and a race earlier than you'd planned. You've earned every success, and I always appreciate your assessment of courses, etc.

Lily: Congrats on your DL 1/2 success. It's got to feel good, knowing the Goofy training is going to pay off at multiple events. (And good luck with Erie!)

Carrie: I'm just impressed that you get right back out there after your tri! Tracy will appreciate this one: you are a warrior, woman! :worship:

Liz: Take care of that back!

Terri: I'll cross my fingers on your job situation. At least you know you'll have a great time in Maui, no finger-crossing necessary!

As for me: I've been under the weather this week. Managed to get in my running--minimal this week as it's an easy week for me--and not much else. DOOD's first ultra is this weekend. I bonked on last week's 2nd of the b2b runs...didn't manage to get my 10 in, walking it in for 8.5. But at least I got in 5 the day before... Hoping that this weekend's 12 will be better, much better. (Only one LR this weekend.)

In fun news, I applied to be a panel member of the Disney Moms panel. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know I'm not a mom. But I could play one on TV.
