Month of September - WISH Team Walkers and Runners

Good afternoon, WISHers!

Vicky, I mix my gel with water. The first fuel belt I bought had a 20 oz water bottle and a 4 oz bottle..I just figured that's what they wanted me to do..:rotfl: I had tried just doing the gels straight, but didn't like throwing the empty packet down or carrying a baggie to put it in..this was MUCH better. There are smaller bottles made for this purpose; about 4 oz water per packet.

It was so great to meet new WISHers at the DL meet and then on the course! I was so very thankful that the weather cooled off that morning!

Debra, DOOD had an ULTRA this weekend??!! Details!! :surfweb:

Way to go on the training, team. Keep putting one foot in front of the other! We'll see that finish line in January!!

:goodvibes Anne

Yay for IronMan Matt!

Debra, an ultra, really? Well, I do hope DOOD did well.

Frank is that Megabus you use? I've heard a good thing or two about it from a friend. I was thinking of using it.

The half in Erie, PA was wonderful. I did much better than I expected. I've got lots to work on and will do a better report. Just having a massive busy day today and no time to spare.

Woohoooo Lily!!! :woohoo: Can't wait to hear how it went.

DEBRA!!! Where is DOOD's race report!?!?!?!? Hoping he did well and had a blast!!!

A quick report. Did my gym and outdoor training last week. Did a b2b a bit too fast on the short night, the garmin didn't work well so we were a bit fast and a bit over the 6 we planned on. Did 16 miles on Friday, and then took Saturday off and then 7 miles on sunday. Gym again today but since the treadmills were all packed I game home and raked a bit. 3 leaf bags worth  So all is still going on this end!!! :woohoo: Just glad I did get in my core/upper body at the gym, wasn't too bummed I didn't get my 2 mile run in on the TM. There is always tomorrow :thumbsup2

off to bed. will check in again tomorrow as I eagerly await DOOD's, Matt and Lily's trip reports. A quick glance earlier showed me Wendy's Peanut photos were up :woohoo:

Night!

That's the one. I haven't used them yet either but since no one has been decapitated on their bus, which sadly can't be said about all of them, I figured it was worth a try.

I wish we had a decent rail system here like in Europe because taking the train instead of flying would be another option for races that were a little farther.

Debra - :rotfl:Thanks for puttign that into perspective. No, I never thought I'd say a tri was no big dean. In fact, I peant 2.5 years swearign I coudl never do a tri! Boy, I've come a long way ina little over a year. :goodvibes

Jackie - So glad you did so well on your 20 miler!!!!!

Vicky - I never mix Gu wiht water, but Anne is right about the packages beign a bit of a pain to deal with on a run.

Huge congrats to everyone who had such great LRs this weekend!!!!

Here's a quick breakdown on my tri:

Swim (1/2 mile) 20 seconds more than my PR. but 6 min off last year. :-O
Bike (17.2) - Best pace ever! Close to 1mpm faster than last year too!
Run (4.9)- Best pace this year. A little worse than last year, but I did awesome last year. After my running slump this year, I am very pleased.

Total - 8 min and 5 sec better than last year! Very happy!

:woohoo: Woohoo Carrie!!!! Excellent job!!! :woohoo:

Carrie? Was that Jackie you meant that did the 20 miler? Which I think I missed giving a WOOOOHOOO out to Jackie on for that, leading the pack an all!!! :woohoo: I just wondered because I thought Jeanne was doing a 16 miler this past weekend but perhaps she just didn't want to stop at 16 :lmao:

:rotfl:

:headache: Yes, I did mean Jackie.

It's ok Carrie! I can translate :surfweb: :teacher: :rotfl: I'll let you in on a little secret, my back button is about dead because of all the deleting/correcting I do  Years ago I took a typing test, I can type pretty quickly like most these days, but thanks to the mistakes ... well let's just say I didn't do so well :scared1: Thank goodness I don't use my typewriter at work very often or I'd get in trouble for cursing :lmao:

Tomorrow is WEDNESDAY!!! Wooohoo!!! The LD training is almost here! for me that means I might spot wild turkeys or deer. YAY!

Hello all! And special hellos to anyone I might have missed and those just popping in to say hi! :goodvibes

Frank: I love, love, love your idea for a fall race and agree with Maura that it would be a good fit with Toy Story 3. I think it would be especially good in DL, though, what with the plans for CA. Me, I'd like to see something with the newly acquired Marvel characters, but don't think that will happen. Maybe something with the Pixie Hollow?

Vicky: I can't help you with the gel question, as I'm a bean/block eater. Sorry, but I'm glad you figured it out. Sounds sticky and messy though, and I'm a hot, sticky mess during my LRs anyway, so...:rotfl2:

Diane: Yay for being ready for RffT. :cool1:

Tracy: Thanks again for the nametags and doing such a great job making sure the information gets out there!

Megan: Your running coach sounds like such a good mentor and the whole TNT experience is shaping up to be really positive for you. (I like getting the inside track on this, because someday...) And yay for conquering the hills!

Anne: DOOD's ultra is actually this weekend. I think I mistyped the date/got my weekends wrong. It's the Youngstown event, can't remember the name. I'm planning on taking pictures, if I can remember to bring the camera.... Oh, and he says, it's "just" 50K. rolleyes1 Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's not being humble. It's trying to manage the panic attack. :lmao:

Lily: Congrats on your PA 1/2!

DianeL: Wow, what a weekend! You're really packing in all sorts of exercise. I'm consistently impressed by how hard you've been working and the progress you're making.

Carrie: WTG with the tri and your improvement! You've earned every faster minute! :woohoo:

As for me: I managed 10.5/12 this weekend. The cold did me in. My left leg, which has bothering me after my runs, officially upgraded from discomfort to pain (again, only after my runs) so I've substituted XT for runs this week. We'll see what this weekends SLRs (cutback week) tell me. I'm trying to follow the 3 days off rule, and today is the first day I've had no pain at all. Yay for me.

In silly news, I submitted a slogan for One More Mile Running's t-shirt contest. For those who vote on such things, can you guess which one is mine? (You'll have to go there and check it out, because I voted and can't reopen the ballot. :upsidedow

Quick Fly-by for me. My time this week is engrossed in winding down work (2 more days to go--very little motivation), working on the school directory and eating out for lunch--not something I usually do, but people keep offering and I keep accepting.

Debra First, it truly never ceases to amaze me that you can find something nice/positive to say to everyone who ever posted on this thread. Clearly, I am cut from lesserl cloth! Second, so many slogans--nothing about ice cream....although there was the one on bourbon. Perhaps?

Time to go fix dinner and call DD--it's her 19th birthday and she was just named NEWMAC (college conference) runner of the week for winning her XC race!

Maura

Maura - Huge congrats to DD!!! That's awesome! yay for 2 days to go!

DSebra - Thta's tough. A lot of good ones this time. FUnniest -"it's the .2 that really gets me"., although "I'm only doing this so I can post a pic on FB" is pretty god too. The ...list of injuries...I run for the fun of it maybe? Just don't know.

DId my 40 min runtonight. been ages since I've done a weekday run. It sucked, but it's done.

Hey everyone! A 30 minute tempo run this morning. I ran my 3 mile route backwards so that I would finish in 30 minutes. Somehow I think I might have missed the point :upsidedow I'm still trying to get the hang of it.

I was talking to a coworker today and she asked me about my running. I told her my LR is 12 miles this weekend. She asked why I wasn't tapering (she's not a runner but knows other people who do). I said that I was just following the training plan. So if this is the last weekend before the race (Sept 27), do I need to taper? I know on marathon training schedules, I would be tapering ... but I just assumed that it's because a 1/2 is just not as long :confused3 Does anyone know why?

Carrie - Congrats on your tri!

Debra - Which one is your slogan? Lots of funny ones up there. My favourite is "I'm so far behind I thought I was first." :cutie:

Maura - Happy birthday to DD and congrats on her race!

Kim - How's the Goofy training coming along? Is DS ready for Scotia?

Have a great night everyone!

Deb- I will have to go over and check out the contest. I am still trying to find one of those "You pace or mine" shirts but apparently they are only made for women...who knew:confused3. Hope the leg issues heal up, are you stretching before and after? Oh, and only 50K, kind of like saying the Ironman is only a tour of Hawaii.

Diane- Posting is much easier with Firefox and the English Dictionary plug in. No more spelling mistakes. I have found it to be, in fact, the best thing since sliced bread.

Carrie and Matt- Congratulations again on your Tri.

I went out and did just under 6 tonight to make sure the legs are all good for Phily, and they seem to be. I started fallball on Monday (if you saw my Facebook post you know I forgot how to hit, hopefully temporarily) so that was some speedwork that had the quads a little sore. It was a good sore though, not a pain sore. Sounds weird but I'm pretty sure you know what I mean.

Frank - GOod sore. Yup, know exactlywhat you mean! Love that feeling!

Diane - Actually, if you look in the upper dith of the reply box, there is a spell check. It takes you to an IE plug in. I'm just too lazy to use, it. :rotfl:

Vicky - You should taper for a half. MFm has you peak at 10 3 weeks outm then 8 then 5 the weekend before. A half is still a looong race. Unless you are using it fro a trianing run prepping fro a full, you should taper. If you are using it fro a LR, you shoudl sitll go easier (8 max) teh weekends before and after.

Rest day for me today. Yayy!!

Hello everyone! Did my 3 miler this morning. It was nice and cool - I think I'm going to have to bring out the running gloves soon. I really hate running with cold hands.

Carrie - I'm following Hal Higdon's 1/2 training plan. This weekend it has me running a 12 miler and a 3 miler (pace). I wonder if it's because it's a 12 week plan. I've only got the 1/2 for now and then a 10K two weeks later. Thanks for the advice though! I will probably do 8 miler as you have suggested :)

Ahhh...That explains is. He's way too hard fro me. Still, it's good to give your legs a taper, so that they are healed and craving a run come race day.

I've only done 3 half marathons so far and I use his plans only because when I Googled for a training plan, his was the first to come up  To be honest, I've never quite made it as far in the training schedule as I have this time. I usually get up to 8-9 miles (LR) either because of weather or life. I was more interested in running the 12 miles just to see how I could handle it. But you're absolutely right about giving my legs a rest. I'll save the 12 miler for a couple of weeks after the race ;) Thanks Carrie!
