Month of August - WISH Walkers and Runners Training Thread

Welcome MamaCrush, lolakat adn bounceliketigger!

Daine - SO sorry about your pix. :-( Love your trianing partner!

Maura - No WDW in January? :guilty: We will miss you! Good luck at DL!

Susan - Good ot see you!

Debra - Traning is so hard without a race. I have been slacking so bad since the 70.3. Even my race 1.5 weeks ago and a sprint in 1.5 weeks don't motivate em at the moment. Bad. Thought of you as I realized yesterday that it's been ages tsince I thought about my posture. :sad2:

Well, still no good run in this week.

Yesterday did a solid hour on the stairclimber & elliptical though, then a few minutes on the DM followed by pretty intense core strength training today. Taking tomorrow off, cross & hills Friday, then 8-10 this weekend.

Need pixie dust for my calves & shins!

bounceliketigger - Your work outs sound pretty intense. AAHve you taken a few days off to see if it helps your calves & shins. You don't want ot mes with them!

You're right & I do need to take time off but I want to be ready. Ugh. I did a long run last friday & took 3 days off but the big hill @ the end of the run killed the lower legs. Think I'm gonna stay off them till monday. Thanks for the reality check!

I read an article that said, "The workout is the architect, the rest is the builder." I can't remember exactly who said it, but I'm thinking it was Jillian Michaels. But that reinforces everything I've been reading. Kind of makes me feel better when I feel like I should be doing more than my training plan.

Diane I signed up to do Free Press Marathon the other day. It is my goal/hope/dream to break 4 hours for the marathon and qualify for Boston. So the DL 1/2 is really just a training run for me (and I NEVER would have though I'd hear myself call a 1/2 marathon that in my wildest dreams!)

Carrie While I'm most likely/definitely skipping marathon weekend, I would like to do the Princess. I figure it would be nice to have a complete set of Disney medals. Which means Princess, Wine & DIne (if it still lasts) and Goofy. So I've got a few more excuses to give DH for trips!

Heading off to DL this afternoon minus doing my tempo run today. I strained some lower back muscles--probably yoga or my mattress--so I decided to "take the rest cure". Got my bags packed--mostly stuff for my DS, who we'll see this weekend. And I'm flying first class, so I hope to be comfy.

Have a great holiday weekend all.

Maura

Maura - have a great trip adn a great race!!!!!! Someday I'll get that partners' medal. Hopefully, I will see you at Princess. No Detroit fro us, as we'll be cruising!

bounceliketigger - A good rest when needed can do more for you than anything. One year, I didn't work out fro two weeked before marathon, except 1 30 min run 2 days before the race to see if my legs still moved after being sick for so long. I was fine.

MamaCrush - I always struggle with rest, as I am inerently lazy and have to check myself as to whether I am being lazy or not. Rest can do wonders, though, and you definitely do not want to fo above your plan on your first try at a distance. You need to get through without injury and then see how you can tweak it.
