Monorail slides at DLH are CLOSED????

It
I am really sorry. It's odd how DLR doesn't announce hotel refurbs on the website like WDW does. You'd think they would be the same.

The pool refurb was in red under DLH when we booked for November on the website.

At least that makes more sense than having a planned closure in summer. Still they should have posted that information on the hotel's webpage (or at least posted that the slides were closed on the slide's webpage).

Or emailed guests checking in during the work window...

So, after an HOUR on the phone with 2 people, they need to "work on" trying to get my discount applied to a room at the Grand and they are going to call me back. Seriously? Why is this so difficult? I swear, if it wasn't for my kids, I would just cancel at this point and demand the deposit back. I am so frustrated. To her credit, the woman working with me from guest services seems to be on my side and said "there are plenty of rooms available at rack rate for those dates, so I'm not sure why this is so challenging."

And yeah, they have upgraded a BUNCH of people from PPH over to GCH for free lately. Don't tell me they can't extend the discount to a room at the Grand.

Oh good. It is not a happy surprise when refurbs are not listed. It is a shame though they didn't update the pool refurb for OP. She mentioned she did see a note, but it said May 2019. It is July and still not done. That needs to be updated.

Completely agree! Honestly the lack of disclosure regarding the slide closures is not acceptable. That is a major feature of this hotel particularly in summer. I really hope they do this for you (i personally wouldn’t even want to pay the upcharge!).

That is ridiculous. It shouldn't be that hard. And since it is their fault they didn't update the website, imho you should not have to pay a penny more for your room at GCH. They dropped the ball, you didn't.

And why are the upgrading people from PPH to GCH? How is that fair for guests who paid the insane amounts for a room at GCH? Are they getting upgraded to Club Level? My guess is no. :sad2:

A number of people here reported being offered to switch to GCH during the Star Wars reservation period.

Thanks. Hadn't heard that. Happy for them, but boy I would be bummed if I paid those insane GCH rates and found out I could've paid PPH prices. Albeit, I am cheap though. lol :P

So now they are telling me that the yellow slide is open but the red one won't be open until mid July. Apparently, something went very wrong with the original refurbishment work on the slides. They were both open for a short period of time in late May, before being shut down because they weren't resurfaced correctly and people were getting hurt.
I was told Friday the yellow slide was up, along with the kids areas. Red slide will be down at least til mid-month. We are there the same dates!

When I booked the last couple trips, it did have a flag at the top noting the pool slide area was under refurb.

So, we got switched to the Grand for $16/night more, which I am happy to pay. Kids feel better now and hopefully the drama is over. I promised them a weekend at DLH later this year (we were going to do a weekend at Grand in October so now we are just flip flopping the plans).

I have to always call because we are using a military discount. At the time I made the reservation, nothing was said over the phone about renovations at the pool area. So, I had no idea. Granted, this current closure is the result of poor work done during the renovation, but apparently these slides have been closed for almost a month now so I feel like we should have been notified.

I'm glad you got it switched, and at minimal cost. :flower1:

BTW, thank you!! Knowing they jumped through hoops to give you the military rate saved me a call asking to see if they reinstated room discounts. Which for the life of me I still cannot figure out why they'd rather have a ton of empty rooms losing money versus allowing discounts and making money. :confused3

She told me the discount blackout is in effect until August 31 and she, too, did not understand the rationale behind it. So, if you are interested in a military discount room after Aug 31, you should have no problem booking one.

I am on the phone with reservations right now. Trying to move to the GCH. On hold. My son cried when I told him this morning. He tried so hard not to, but just couldn't stop the tears from rolling down his cheeks while he ate his breakfast. Crushed me.

((Big hugs)) to your little one. It may sound trivial to some, but to a child this IS BIG. I hope you can get everything settled before you arrive and you have a wonderful trip.

At the DLH now, the yellow and kiddie slide are open. The red monorail slide is under wraps.

Thanks for the real time update. I didn't know what to believe when I was told 2 different things regarding the yellow slide just this morning. Before we switched to the GCH, I asked my kids if the yellow slide being open would be okay, but both were pretty adamant that the red slide was the one they were looking forward to.

I also found out (inadvertantly) that the room we had booked at DLH would not have had a daybed, which would have been another issue, so we booked a room at GCH that specifically has a daybed as well. When I made the reservation, I did mention that we would like a daybed and was told "all rooms at the DLH now have daybeds." Seemed fishy to me, but I took their word for it. Clearly the booking agent I got dropped the ball more than once.

Thank you. My older son was disappointed, but he would have gotten over it. The younger one is 13, but his autism makes him mentally closer to 6 or so, and he is just a very emotional child who gets super, super excited about things, which is sweet, but when something doesn't go as planned, it means he feels the disappointment SO MUCH and it consumes him and he just falls apart. We are working on teaching him to manage expectations and accept life's disappointments, but he is also taking my husband leaving soon very hard and this was to be a bright spot during a rough time. So, I just really want this to be a fun stay. He is excited about the Grand now...saying "I have never stayed there" even though he has stayed there twice when he was a toddler, he just doesn't remember. He is already watching videos that show the pool and slide and he is excited.
