Monorail Drink-A-Thon

OK. I got it now, no fried rice for dinner, can only order one drink at a time. Now is anyone going in July that might want to join me and my friend on our crawl around the world?

Hi WLL...i was over in the camping forum when my email told me there was a post and ....it was YOU!!! So hello! I can't wait to go back my self 10 weeks and counting!

LOL...I didn't know you subscribed to this thread! So you are going in 10 weeks? I didn't know that! Hope this upcoming trip is better than the last one...i am sure it will be!

lol

Thanks PD! I just got back a few hours ago and I am missing it already!

We did the tour and we are thisclose to becoming DVC members! :Pinkbounc

I will give ya'll a trip report soon...I need to unpack now!

I am taking my first solo trip from April 4-7. I've never gone alone, and it isn't my idea of the best way to do Disney. However, I have a business trip in Tampa the weekend before, and my 22-year-old daughter is flying out to join me in Orlando for the weekend following my solo trip, so I thought I would lay by the pool for the week and work on my Disney travel guide.

However, I wouldn't be against getting together with other Disney revelers for one outing. It would be fun to get a small group together for one foray during that week. Anyone interested?? :drinking1:

DH23- I would LOVE to go. Unfortunately for me its not an option. But Im sure you'll have a great time. You can go eat wherever YOU want, wake up when YOU want, lay by the pool all day, order fun frozen drinks, and actually enjoy yourself!

DH23-Pixiedust is right...you will have such a relaxing time! I will let you know if it is a possibility for me as the dates near...but I doubt it..DH and I our planning to "MAYBE" go for our fist trip without DD to celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary in May.

Just wanted to share my trip with all the lushes. We arrived at WL on Wed, Jan 26th. We had a woods view room but got upgraded to CY. Our room was on the 5th floor and looked straight out to the pool and the lake. this was the best room we have had to date. After unpacking...we went down to the pool. It was nice and empty due to the slight chill in the air. I got right into the swing of things by going to the pool bar. The bartender there was a sweetie. I felt guilty getting a drink at 2 pm and made a comment that I was only having one. He reminded me of that when I went back for a second! LOL! I think the drink I ordered was a "lumberjack." It was a fruity rum concoction and he was generous with the Myers Rum! My DH had some vibrant green tequila drink...a real departure for him...as he is a beer or whisky guy. I had my latest issue of "Gourmet" magazine and sipped my drink and just absorbed the atmosphere. I almost got a tear in my eye I was so happy. :flower:

We made a PS when we went back to the room for O'hana. We have never eaten there. It was good...they bring you appetizers and sides and then come around with skewers of pork, turkey, meat and shrimp. I had a Lapu Lapu while waiting for our table and then had a Back Scratcher at the dinner table. I do not usually drink sweet, fruity drinks so I was actually feeling a little gross at this point. The Back Scratcher was another fruity rum drink, but it had a Jack Daniels Floater. Who comes up with these mixes? We had a table right at the window and enjoyed the view and food.

That night we went to EMH at MK and rode a zillion rides with no lines or waiting.

Thursday ate breakfast at WCC...all you can eat. Went to AK and really enjoyed it. The Tarzan Rocks show is phenomenal. Put DD6 into the Cub's Den that night and had drinks at the TL...I had a dirty martini with the most delicious blue cheesed stuffed olives! I had another at dinner at the Artist's Point. We had the $47 Chef's selection...soup, salad, entree and dessert. Excellent.

Friday went to the Perfectly Princess Tea Party at the GF. My girlfriend also attended with her DD. After, she and I went to MK while our DHs went golfing. That night the four of us and our kids ate at Palio in the Swan. It was really good.

Funny story...as we were getting ready in our hotel room for dinner at Palio...I ran down to Roaring Forks to get some wine for me and beer for DH. As I walked to the register with my chardonnay and Heineken, the CM called over a manager. The manager informed me that they cannot sell two alcoholic beverages at a time. I explained one was for my DH and one for me...they were two different items! She was very understanding...she even remarked that you can buy a six pack at the mercantile...but she said she was not allowed. Just then a woman behind me put her arm around me and said the the manager, "I'm with her...the beer is for me...ok?" of course the manager knew that she was a stranger just helping me out, but she allowed the CM to sell the two bevs to me. I thought that was cute!

Saturday had breakfast at WCC again. that all you can eat breakfast is a value at $9.69! We did the DVC tour at SSR and really enjoyed it. They give you $100 Disney dollars just for coming in and it is a very low pressure sales presentation. It was fun and interesting.

*sigh* then we came home :sad2:

ell, thanks for letting me relive my trip. I cannot wait to go back!

I know I will have a great time, even alone (meals are the parts I am not looking forward to as much.) I do have my daughter's arrival to look forward to, and I just signed the two of us up for the Segway tour during her weekend.
I just thought I would see if anyone was around that week, as my hubby is kinda shy and would never be up for a meeting. I'm shy, too, but feel good about taking risks. So, if anyone ends up being around, let me know!

I have a question about the DVC - I have always wanted to do the tour. I know I will buy someday. Does everyone get the Disney Dollars, or did you have to "wrangle" the deal when you signed up? How did you sign up - at one of those little stands? Thanks!!

DH23-In your room is a white envelope that says "Invitation." I think it is in every room at every resort. In that, it says that you will receive 100 DD for going on the hour long tour. I then contacted the little DVC desk that is in every resort. The guy was friendly and knowlegeable and thru him I booked the tour for noon on our departure day. Our tour took closer to two hours, but we asked a lot of questions and really took our time. At the end of the tour, when you receive brochures, a video, etc....your salesperson will give you your $100 as a thank you. Then they lead you to an ice cream parlor (after you pick up any kids you may have left in the kid's club...they can play in there for free while you are touring ... our DD had a BLAST!) and you get free ice cream! This is premium ice cream, too. I got coconut and put chocolate sauce and nuts on it. they have a bunch of flavors and we each got one and sat in the cute room and watched a little choo choo train go round and round. Then the van picks you up (whenever you are ready) to whisk you back to your hotel. Or, if you want, you can stroll over to DTD and have a van take you back to the hotel later.

The only issue you may have is supposedly if you are married...both spouses must attend the sales presentation. Now...they don't ask you, but I think they may have your info in the computer when you give your name so they may know you have a DH who is not on this trip.

I have another question for my solo trip:

Where, in all your lushy opinions, is the best place to get a drink and watch the fireworks? I am trying to decide between California Grill and O'Hana's.

I was thinking of eating at O'Hana's and then getting a drink and heading down to the beach for the fireworks. Do they pipe the music on the beach?

(By the way, this is for when my daughter arrives, not by myself! ;) )

I can't tell you if they pipe the music in on the beach at the Poly...i bet someone else can help you with that! But that sounds like a great idea to me...getting a drink at the Poly and going to the beach. I think CG is getting too crowded. I don't know if you can see the fireworks from the bar at CG, and getting a table during Wishes is difficult and if you CAN score a table, I am sure a dinner should be ordered, not just drinks (don't know if you wanted to dine or not.)

i really enjoyed my Lapu Lapu at Ohana...served in a hollowed out pineapple.

LOL...even if you WERE alone...I wouldn't think it was a bad thing to have a Lapu Lapu and watch the fireworks by yourself! Sounds like heaven to me! :flower:

Hi Haven't been here for a while but yes they do pipe in music around the beach area and it is a nice place to hang to watch fireworks.

Hope everyone is well & all liquored up!

Hiya, Mac! Come around more often...you're gonna be at the World in...what...about 5 months?

Yes WLL,

The countdown timer sure has taken it's time. But in 5 months I will be able to have my first Fiesta Margarita (after not having one for over a year) I think that's deplorable!

I also can wait to try out a few new things I have learned from you all. Also that great new slide @ OKW (and sitting by the Gurgling Suitcase too)!!!

Talk about the best attitude adjustment ever!

Can I give a premature Welcome Home WLL?

You'll never regret it (except when the dues come in) but I get over that really fast by thinking of how much fun the next trip will be.

Welllllcommmme Hommme Mac! :flower:

I am so jealous...you get to call WDW "home!"

We will one day, I promise you that. But after crunching the numbers and adding some stuff up...we decided that pre paying for our vacations (which is basically what DVC is all about ) is not something we can justify right now. It is a smart thing to do if you have the money...but we are going to wait just a bit. We are going to look into buying a VWL resale as opposed to buying SSR ...*sigh* ... it is all so confusing and we have been losing sleep over it!

Anyhoo...if the codes come out...DH and I are gonna go for our 8 year wedding anniversary...gonna stay at PORFQ for 2 nights...that will be in may. Maybe I will have my FIRST "Fiesta Margarita" then. Can you believe I have never had one?

So,,,since OKW is only a DVC resort (right?)...can I sit at the Gurgling Suitcase? I have heard it is a great spot. But I guess I have to be a guest, or the guest of a guest. Too bad....I might have to rent some points just so I can check it out!

No, the Gurgling Suitcase is open to anyone who wants to stop by and have a drink. It's a very small place and not all that exciting IMO.

Robin is right but it sure is well themed as far as being a small hole in the wall place in (the keys). But something about draws me back time and again. DH & I make sure to sit there every time we're there just for the memory I guess.

But we also want to try the place in the WL (I seem to have missed that last time there), and since we will have a few days @ POR before the outlaws come to join us we are going to sit around that Muddy Waters Pool Bar (I love it there) we walked over to that pool once when we were staying at POFQ.

Want to try the Bloody Mary (they claim to be spicy!!!!)

Anyway WLL, you're right you'll take the plunge when it fits into your budget. We consider ourselves fortunate enough to have been able to buy in. Just wish we had looked into it earlier.

Hi Robin!!! I see what you mean...it is probably a great place to toss one back if you are staying there, but maybe not worth the drive if that is all you are going to do on OKW property.

Mac-You are going to have to give me a full report on your opinions of POR. I see you have stayed at POFQ...why are you staying POR this time? Whcih one would be better for a romantic getaway? I am a little iffy about staying there, but since it will be just DH and I, we figure that boat that takes you to DTD will be invaluable! I have NEVER been to Pleasure Island. Anyone have any opinions on PI? Oh, and you MUST go to the TL at WL...so far, it is my favorite WDW br...and not just cuz I am a WL lover, either. It is very cozy there. then again...I have not been to every bar on WDW property...which is something I plan to achieve soon!
