Monorail Drink-A-Thon

DH23- You could also dine at Narcoosees or just grab a drink at the bar and stroll out onto the deck for WISHES. They do pump the music there and it is a GREAT view!

MAC- while youre down there I would love to see some pictures of the new slide at OKW, so if you dont mind taking a couple pics that would be suuuuuuper!!!

WLL- I'm not a fan at all of POFQ. It's extremely small and I dont really enjoy the theming. I do however love POR or as I know it Dixie Landings. It's much more romantic. If you're looking for romance I would suggest staying in the mansions. We always stayed in the bayou b/c its a fun place for kids. As for the resort, I think you get more variety in terms of food at POR and the pool area is MUCH better. The slide at FQ is a child slide, while there's a hot tub and an adult slide at POR. Both have access to the boat to DTD. However I do recall the boat trip taking quite some time! :hourglass
Now I've spent some time at PI and really enjoyed myself, but I think it all depends on what youre looking for. We liked 8-tracks: a little bar with room for dancing that plays 80's music. We also like the beach place, the trendy pop music place and the BET soundstage. They were good places for dancing and pretty much the closest we could get to our usual NYC party atmosphere. We tried the adventurers club and found the actors to be much more of an annoyance then entertainment. As for manaquins I've never been there and the idea of a rotating dance floor while drinking makes me think I might have made the right choice. Unfortunately now anyone with a parent can get onto the actual island and you just need a wristband to get into the bars themselves, so I imagine there will be no more jello shot girls wondering the streets. And I think you might have been able to walk with you drink outside, but I can't really recall if you could or couldnt....my memory is a little hazy for some reason...

Thanks PD! It is so funny...I am getting SO MANY conflicting reports on POFQ and PO (DL as you know it...LOL!) I can use the amenities at both, right? So how close are the two resorts? Since this IS a lush thread...tell me about the little lounge there. Do POR AND POFQ have a lounge? Also, is Boatwrights worth it? Looks like a place we would eat breakfast, but maybe dinner go elsewhere.

DH and I are not into "nightclub" type places. We would like a bar that we can just sit at and be mellow. I know they are gonna build an Irish Pub at PI...wonder when that will be ready? Maybe we should just skip PI and hang out at the bar at HOB or something.

*sigh* if codes come out, I think we may just go back to the tried and true WL. the thing is...i really DO want to try other resorts. We'll see. thanks for the tips.

I'm new to this thread..invited by WL Lover...THANKS WLL!!

Anyway, I haven't had time to read the whole thing over, so if I repeat things forgive me...but

I can't wait to do the around the world drink-a-thon at Epcot...my sig other, Sarah, has done it before and said it was great time.

I am really looking forward to this trip...Honeymooning at the WL 5/2/05-5/8/05...I'm psyched!

I haven't been to Disney, or FLorida for that matter, since I was kid...much less since I turned "legal" it should be intersting to say the least.

We went to Vegas last year, and that was a pretty good time, but I have the feeling I am going to enjoy DW even more...maybe cause I'm not much for gambling! :rolleyes1

Steve pirate:

Yikes! So much to reply to ... so little time ;).

MAC3: A lot of people love the Gurgling Suitcase for the exact reasons you mention. You are not alone! I personally wouldn't make a special trip, but it is a nice stop if you're already visiting OKW. I will probably visit it more now that the main pool has a slide (yippie, from my DD). Perhaps we'll even pool hop on our next trip. We have a studio booked at BCV. That'll be a first ... leaving Stormalong Bay behind to swim at OKW :rotfl:.

pixiedust23: I love POFQ for the very reasons you don't! I love that it's small and it really does remind me of the French Quarter in NO ... without the strip clubs ;).

WLL:I like the pool bar at POFQ and I really like the bar inside. It was very quiet last summer. I like POR too. I love the bar there when Bob Jackson is at the piano. He does goofy sing-alongs ... a little like Jellyrolls but totally G-rated and kid friendly. His schedule can be found here (but turn down your sound before for take the link!) http://www.yehaabob.com/. We try to visit Bob Jackson even if we don't stay at POR/POFQ.

steved28 Wecome to the thread :).
LOTW.jpg

All this talk about POR/POFQ/OKW and PI gave me an idea. What about a LOTW Boat Ride? Start at one end and stop at each resort along the way.

Welcome steved! You are gonna have so much fun at the WL! Congrats to you and Sarah!

Robin-You are so great at posting informative, entertaining links! Thank you! *sigh* so once again, I have conflicting reports on POR vs. POFQ! arrrgh!

Welcome steved28

PD23, I will gladly take and (with the help of someone not as techie challenged as myself) will post them. There were some posted on Deb Wills site. IMHO, I think it's a bit odd looking but, I'd much rather have the slide than not!.

WLL, I will let you know about POR. We have stayed @ POFQ before and did enjoy it. I found it to be romantic. Well if you could call it that with the girls around but it had a quaint charm to it (excluding the serpent ). We did go over POR to swim (although the girls don't remember) but DH & I certainly remember sitting @ the Muddy Waters Pool Bar. I really liked that place.

I will definately try the TL this time (really don't know how I missed it last time???? :confused3

I choose POR to get me one step closer to staying at each Disney Resort (hopefully I can accomplish it in this lifetime). The girls wanted to change to POP but DH wants a Hot Tub on site ???

I don't get how anyone can get in a hottub in Orlando in July????

robinb you are correct, if your there it's a definate hang out. If not (not worth the trip) Although from what I've read about that slide I bet OKW becomes quite popular. Where is Bob Jackson? POR or POFQ?

Thinking of trying Le Cellier & Ohanas, can anyone comment? We usually eat @ ESPN, Prime time & Sci Fi....

Steved - welcome to the thread and congratulations on your upcoming nuptials

WLL-I've stayed at both POFQ and POR (although POR only for one night and then moved to POFQ). POR is beautiful and very romantic. An evening stroll through the grounds with your DH would be very romantic for your anniversary. The pool looks better than POFQ's, though my DD7 absolutely loved it (then again, she didn't try POR's). POFQ is much smaller and very quaint, but it does not have a sit down restaurant like POR. The rooms were the same in both, other than a little difference in colors and such. The one thing that I loved about POFQ was that the buses pick up and drop off there first, so you will have a higher probability of getting a seat than if you stay at POR (which has 3 or 4 stops). Now, the buses are shared between the 2 resorts, which can be a drag, but POFQ has the advantage on the transportation. I don't know about the DTD ferry because it was closed when we stayed there last year (hurricane Jeanne blew right through during our stay and the ferry did not re-open until after we left. The 2 resorts are close together so you can easily walk to the other one. I've heard Boatwrights is really good, but I didn't try it.

MAC - I can't wait to use my DVC points (I close on SSR in March). I've reserved for my annual birthday trip in Sept but I'll see if I can slip a weekend in before then (though I better get on it soon or I'll find no vacancy!).

I'm bummed because I'm going this coming long weekend and can't find any room at WDW. It's completely sold out. I'm lucky that I can stay at my parents nearby, but I wanted to stay inside the magic.... oh well... my fault for not making reservations earlier.

I love both Le Cellier and Ohanas!! Le Cellier has really good cheese soup, and the sourdough breadsticks that come with every meal are delicious. This is one of my favorite Epcot eateries.

Ohanas is my husband and daughter's favorite place. There is plenty of meat - I always find it a little dry, but I still enjoy the place immensely. I love the won tons in the first course, and the pineapple and caramel. It is also a great place for firework viewing, and if you have little kids, there are lots of activities for them throughout the meal.

Can't wait to visit both again!! :goodvibes

We are also excited to try Ohana's and Le Cellier on our upcoming trip. These are the only two restaurants that we definitely plan on having sit down meals at. The rest we are going to leave up in the air.

Hello again! Nice to see some renewed activity on this thread! :cheer2:

Mac-I went to Ohana for the first time ever in january and I was pleasantly surprised. I was not overwhelmed by the food, but it was pretty darn good. I enjoyed our seat, right by the window. The wings were good, as were the little wonton/dumpling thingys they give you at the beginning. The rice was just "eh." The meat was a little on the dry side, but I like my red meat medium rare and of course they do not serve it like that! The shrimp was good, but I got tired of having to peel them, and they were messy. DH was happy...very thrilled with "all you can eat meat" and DD did that coconut race thing, and I was drinking a lapu lapu and then a back scratcher (check them out on the drink menu) so we were all happy!

I do want to try Le Cellier...maybe on our anniversary trip! Although if codes do not come out, then we will probably go elsewhere. Maybe Naples (FL...not Italy...LOL!)

Have fun Iluvdmb!

Cristy! Where have you been, missy? Did you see my "trip/lush" report a few pages back on this thread? check it out. We ALMOST purchased at SSR. I thought about you the whole time and even used you as an example to my DH...told him I have a friend who is an accountant and crunched the numbers and said it was a good deal. Actually, I did not have to "sell" him on the idea...we just don't have the $$ sitting around at this very moment. Also, we are debating on whether to get a VWL resale or buy SSR. So I am hoping DVC is in our not too distant future!

As for the POR vs POFQ battle...the buses are NOT an issue as we will probably not go to any parks...with the exception of Epcot MAYBE to do dinner. I want ambiance and a nice pool and a nice lounge and a sitdown restaurant. But again...no codes, no go! :sad2:

Sorry you could not get a room inside WDW. Maybe you can check again when you get there. But have fun anyway...i am sure you will! :earsgirl:

I understand your frustration about not having a ressie. But Welcome Home just the same. Ironically I'm always in the negative as far as points are concerned.

Thanks for all the replies on Ohanas & Le Cellier. According to our party (and after viewing the menus) I think we had made the right choices and after talking with you all I'm sold.

IloveDMB,

If you try them before us please let us know your findings.

Nice to see everyone up and lushing again & WLL,

I'll be sure to check those drinks out personally!!!

Hello LOTW!

Im sorry for not coming any sooner, and unfortunately I have to keep this one quick and simple. The trip in December was Ahhh-mazing. I can't give a full review just yet, but I have to say I suuuure love the Polynesian...everything was just wonderful as usual. Since that trip, she came to visit me in January and attend my brothers wedding. The day after the wedding, we did what any other sick Disney enthusiast would do...take a trip to Disney World! We stayed at the Boardwalk Inn (again) for two nights (its definitely my favorite resort) and it was simply awesome. A couple of weeks later before her flight back we decided to indulge ourselves in Beach Club concierge (it was the only thing available with the AP code) and now we're planning our next trip for May.

Anyways, thanks for all the best wishes people have left on the board, and once again Im really sorry I couldnt come on any sooner :p.

Ill try to get pictures up SOMETIME in the near future! :)

'til then, take care!
wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :3dglasses

ahhhhhh!

I have missed you! Glad you popped in to say hello! I have never stayed at the Poly "OR" at BW so I would love to hear what you liked about each resort! I also want to hear about what and where you ate and drank!

We may be going in the beginning of May...so let me know your dates and maybe we can meet up somewhere and do a shot! LOL! :teeth:

Oh really??? I think we're doing the third week of May (3 resorts in 1 week and hittin up starwars weekend...nothing beats star tours after a few shots of tequila)

Let me tell you, The Poly and BWI are my favorite resorts...BWI edges it a bit because of the location, but they are great. I will probably send you a private message with the details.

ill be around a bit more, but not as much...good to be back :3dglasses

Welcome back, Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! we really missed you! I will probably also hit the world the last week of May, I usually go for Memorial day weekend, so maybe you, WLL and I could meet (which is weird cuz I think we're all South Floridians, right?). Please don't forget to give us details on the whole engagement thing... we've been anxiously waiting for the details!

MAC & IloveDMB, you'll really like Ohana's and Le Cellier. We have done Ohana's twice and have really liked it, and I've never gotten a table by the window! I just like the whole atmosphere and some of the food is really good... not everything, but heck, I am not that picky... ;) My DH and I went to Le Cellier a few years ago and really liked it; the steak was fabulous and so was the cheese soup. Now I'm thinking I should make a PS for this weekend.... yum.

Hi Cristy!

Well...I am SUPPOSED to go in the beginning of May. Our anniversary is May 3rd which is a Tuesday. I kind of want to go the weekend BEFORE our anniversary cuz isn't there some special celebration starting May 5th? I am "trying" to avoid the crowds. I made my ressie anyway...for POFQ for May 6-8th....but a water view room is $185 a night (with tax!) I am sorry, but I guess I am spoiled...I am used to paying $130 a night for WL. there is no way we will stay at POFQ (or anywhere in WDW) if codes do not come out. Last time I stayed at a mod (CSR) I paid $89 a night. That was what I was looking for on this upcoming trip!

I think we will do Boatwrights for Breakfast one morning, Boma one night for dinner...and then one more dinner is up in the air. probably somewhere in DTD.

Welcome back AHHHHHH!

As for the rest of you lushes I am quite jealous of you and all your upcoming trips. I don't see any trips in my future since I'm taking out a loan to finance going back to school to get my teaching certification....being young and not knowing what you want to do until after you graduate isnt the best feeling in the world, but at least i've got a plan now, unfortunately it doesnt involve any vacations for the next couple years... :sad2:

Sorry PD, but it DOES sound like you have your priorities straight! Even though it is not "fun" you are doing the right thing. Maybe you should start planning a big trip for when you graduate...or when you get hired...or something! Just to have it to look forward to!

I forgot...where are you located? Just trying to figure out how far away (geographically) you are from WDW.

I'm about 20 min outside NYC in NJ. I figure maybe I can go for a spontaeous long weekend if the airlines have special deals or something like that, but it's hard to book DVC far out b/c you can only book a certain number of months ahead of time. but i shall live vicariously through you all!

:confused3 Don't know if this is the right place to post this question. DW and I have taken up the habit of escaping the MK for adult bevs at the monorail resorts. So far we like the lounge outside of Ohana's the best; lapu lapus, coupla coronas, daiqs, you get the idea. Do any of the lounges have a snack or appetizer menu. I should probably know this, but the memory goes first you know.
