Monorail Drink-A-Thon

Hello AJR and welcome!

I just stayed at OKW recently...and while I did not participate in any "drinkathons" while there...you could take the boat to DTD...but FIRST you will stop at SSR. have a cocktail in their lounge (sorry...i can't remember the name of it right now.) then take the boat or walk to DTD and there you have a wide choice of places. Then you can take the boat back to POR and have a drink in their lounge...I think it is called "The Roost" or something.

Have fun and ;et us know what you end up doing! :wave2:

Well, its been decided! Melissa and I shall be running the Monorail Drink-a-Thon next Friday (the 8th) between 5 and 7 pm. So if you see us stumbling around, please point us to the nearest bar! :3dglasses

Ahh - Yay! Can't wait to hear how it goes! We are going back in Septemeber and already have plans to watch Wishes on Saturday night, I think a Monorail drinkathon beforehand would be much fun!

AJR - Welcome! I think WLL has some great ideas for a DTD drinkathon

:sunny:

*sigh* wish we could, my dear...but remember, we only have SPs, not APs. We are in a black out date til Aug 18th.

PLUS...just last weekend we went to a family reunion (my family) in Daytona Beach. We spent WAY too much considering the hotel was a dump. The whole time we were there, DH and I were saying, "This sure ain't Disney World!" We really missed WDW!

BTW...we drove up and down the beach in Daytona and were amazed at how rundown the whole area was. We will never go there again, for sure. Just a free tip for anyone considering a trip to the beach next time they are at WDW!

we're not going to any parks :3dglasses

Friday -> Brewery -> Boardwalk Pool -> Dinner @ FF
Saturday -> Blizzard Beach -> Drink-a-Thon -> Dinner @ Citricos
Sunday -> Disney Quest

:)

this trip is more for eating/drinking. originally planned on eating at the jiko's wine pairing dinner on thursday, but they're booked! speakin of which, I need to give them a call and see if anything has opened up..

We are always looking for a good beach area to spend a few days around our WDW trips. On our last trip in January we stayed in Cocoa Beach, which I thought was just OK. Any recommendations on other beach areas that are within close driving proximity to WDW?

Vero Beach is nice (and as you know, Disney has a resort there), Ft Pierce was ok from what I remember. If you can, check out Sebastian Inlet, we use to always go camping there and I absolutely loved it!

Hmmmm, I hear Naples is a nice alternative to South Beach, a lot of my friends go there because its just as nice but less croweded.

:)

You sorry Floridians and your quick jaunts to Disney and drink a thons.

Jealous much? ;)

Hey luv! Still waiting for that trip report! I gave up waiting for ahhhh's and Nerdy's! LOL!

Hello JJ! I am partial to Melbourne Beach....it is just north of Vero (about 30 minutes north of Disney Vero Beach Resort if you are travelling on A1A) and about 40 minutes south of Cocoa. I am not that familiar with the west coast of FL, but I am sure if you drove due west from Disney you would also find pretty beaches on the gulf. JUST DON'T GO TO DAYTONA! LOL! :rotfl:

ahhhh...anything open up for ya at Jiko???

The wife (pooh26) is insisting on writing it and is hard at work as we speak. A day or two more is needed.

In the meantime, keep yourself occupied with trips to the beach and drink-a-thon get togethers :cool1:

JJ, Sarasota is about 2 1/2 hours away from WDW. Siesta Beach is my favorite but if you decide to go, make sure there is no red tide. :sad2: That'll ruin a beach trip for sure.

I lived in Daytona Beach for a couple of years in the mid-80's when I went to college (actually I'm a Stetson alumni, which is only 45 min from WDW) and the beach back then was much better than it is now. I went back for a visit a few years ago on my way back from St. Augustine and I was surprised at how bad it looked. Then again, I never thought it was great as I grew up in an island with gorgeous beaches and I live in So Fla. My recommendation for anyone wanting to go to the beach from WDW is to head west instead of east.

Cristy: Are you originally from the Caribbean?

Wow. Nice islands/people/beaches down there....

Ok, Luv! I will be looking forward to it! :cool1:

Jane and Cristy-I pretty much agree with you about the west coast of FL...it is beautiful over there!

Cristy...I am very familiar with Stetson as my grandma lived a stone's throw away...on "Plymouth Ave" across from that fruit stand...in a teeny tiny house. I used to go up and stay with her for weekends, even as a teen and into my early 20s. I have always loved Deland...we ate at Wally and July's alot...remember that place?

Everytime I get started on the trip report I get distracted with either food or wine. :confused3

I think for our next trip we're just going to take a lot more pics so we don't have to write a review...just post the pics and you'll get the idea! :p

We live at Siesta Key!!! :)
Awesome beach....and the locals aren't too bad either....Daiquiri Deck is close by....yum!! :)

We are still laughing over the rum drink that is served in a coconut at the Poly - my husband had one at the Kona Cafe. We kept saying that when we got to the Poly we'd be relaxing with a drink in a coconut - and he decided to do it. Mostly just to tease us, but then he loved it - it was soooo good.
