Monorail broken down on Epcot line.

The bottom line is Disney needs to do what needs to be done. If they need to take the Monorail completely out of Service then do it. If they have to Deeply Discount the Resorts on the Monorail to compensate the guests staying at those resorts So Be It!

I don't blame anyone for complaining about paying X amount of $ to stay at a resort on the monorail and then having the the monorail breakdown necessitating the guests to be shuttled to MK and EP in buses.

Oh, and for the people comparing taking the monorails down for much needed maintenance to the fridge fiasco, there is a huge difference. Most people were upset because Disney didn't bother to notify them about the fridges (no e-mail, no phone call, nothing!) and they had to find out about it on the Disboards.

If Disney had let people know and then offered up some compensation (like giving everyone in the rooms without fridges a free refillable mug or a credit on their account to use at the food court) , I don't think there would be any outrage.

Its the difference between being pro-active and re-active.

We were delayed 15 minutes into the MK once and they gave us a handful of fastpasses. That seemed generous and we were more than happy. Three hours would have been a totally different story...

How many monorails are in operation at one time?

When we are there for any given week, I can only recall seing a handful of the 12 monorails all week long. Most of our stays have been at the monorail resorts. We make note of all the different colors we see and I am pretty sure that we have never seen all 12 colors in one week.

So aren't there always a couple "out of commission" for maintenance?:confused3

Hi, it's me again. I just wanted to post another update. We were actually given 4 fast passes each (for our party of 6) and they assured me O'hana would not charge my card for the missed reservation...WRONG! My husband went to the concierge this morning and got that reversed but we wouldn't have known that if he didn't go down to check. We went to epcot this morning and picked up the fast passes only to find out:
1. They weren't individual passes...we had to ride as a whole group or else whatever wasn't used was wasted. Not good if you are traveling with kids who have different tastes in rides.
2. They can only be used in one park.
3. They can only be used on the day they are issued!!
Needless to say we were not happy. I think what bothered me the most is that the two people at guest services were completely indifferent to our situation. They really did not seem to think losing three hours of our vacation was a big deal. We finally ended up talking to one guest service rep who was willing to put the fast passes back on our account and split them up into groups of 4 and 2. We have to stop at guest services every time we go to a new park to pick up the passes we want to use that day until they run out. Inconvenient, yes, but at least my daughter will be able to use some.

Sadly, no one has been able to get us another reservation at O'hana :sad1: I am sad that my magical feeling is gone on this trip. Hoping to get some pixie dust our way soon to get it back!pixiedust:

Oh my goodness, OP, your update make me even more sad :(

We really enjoy riding the monorail, but a few years ago we were delayed about 20 minutes and I was already feeling really sick (we were heading back to the parking lot so that we could go home and I could get to bed early). I hate to think about how I would have felt (or what would have happened..... :scared1:) if we had been stuck for 3 hours.

Being stuck on the monorail for 3 hrs is not a minor inconvenience. We go to a huge resort complex and we expect that there will be issues.. small issues to deal with, it won't go all perfectly but, clearly in this case that is not minor.. its a major situation that needs to be addressed accordingly.

Someone else summed it up well above, those who complain to Guest Services will probably be much better compensated.. but, Disney is probably hoping some will just leave and never complain about it.. and for those people Disney gets off really easy.

I cannot imagine being stuck like that for 3 hrs!! That magical feeling and pixie dust would be gone for a significant amount of time for me. I probably wouldn't go back to Disney for quite some time. I don't think I would enjoy anything because if the monorail can get stuck for 3 hrs.. who knows what else could break down.. the possibilities are endless and I would be thinking about every one of them. Sort of like a little PTS... constantly worried I would get trapped somewhere again.

I can understand why in the past there were certain people who would defend Disney no matter what but, I think Disney is now proving itself to be a company that can and will make mistakes. Sure, they still go a pretty good job but, things will happen and when they do a bottle of water and a FP is hardly what I would consider acceptable. I think I would have gone back to my resort and been at the front desk almost immediately complaining. I know some hate those who are looking for the freebie's but in this case how could anyone deny considerable compensation is not just warranted.. its demanded.

Being stuck on the monorail would be an extremely unpleasant, uncomfortable experience, but to throw out post traumatic stress? That's akin to comparing it to being held hostage in a bank robbery or experiencing the horrors of war.

Wow...and a whole stack of fast passes for each person per day wouldn't cost them but a few cents of paper. All about the $.

I know it won't help now, but make sure you e-mail Disney when you get home. Or maybe do it now! For some reason the people who read e-mails do care, more it seems than some of the people at the parks. I've had issues before at WDW that I could not get resolved while I was there. I sent off an e-mail when I was home, and someone from Disney called me back and resolved things for me.

OMG I would not be happy with any of these. 3 hours is a lifetime to waste at Disney. And if I missed Ohana and could not be getting another one the next day someone would REALLY be hearing about that too! Hope things get better for you and someone comes up with an Ohana reservation :thumbsup2

Mom2Princess&Pirate --- if you are still around, ask to see the manager of your resort for assistance in the Ohana ressie. Explain what happened, and the now necessity to visit guest services for the only compensation you were offered. Ask to talk to someone whose pay grade is high enough to get the ressie.

Icould also email guest services now, with your full contact info.

Just remembered something...

We were at Great Wolf Lodge this year. I complained about a worker who was rude. The manager of the hotel gave us a discount off our entire stay which I remember turned out to be $150 dollars in total. Just for that one complaint.

I feel so bad for the unMagical trip your having and then the nightmare continues because of "compensation" rec'd :sad2: At least they fixed it so you did not have to ALL use the FP together.

I agree you should contact Guest Services, they should at the very least offer you a table at 'Ohana or another Restaurant and comp you for it.

I hope the remainder of your trip is bump free

Sadly, I had a feeling that guest services would be exactly like that.

But, one would hope that the concierge desk should be willing to help with getting a new O'hana ressie.

That's awful, sorry to hear this. I'll have to remember to always use the boat to get to MK from now on

Good heavens OP, you poor thing! I wish I had a ressie I could give you! Blown away by the indifference of the CMs! Wishing you tons of Pixie Dust! I super love the monorail but cannot imagine getting stuck on one for that long! Hopefully things are back up and running today and you can find someone who will try to make things better for you!

It was just in March that Disney lost a $8,000 lawsuit because a man was stuck in his wheelchair on Its a Small World for only 30 minutes. I think that was ridiculous but I'm surprised it hasn't made them more sensitive to guests being inconvenienced this severely.

They should not only book you into 'Ohana, they should comp the whole meal. That is just bogus that they aren't taking better care of everyone on that stalled train. I'm also one who doesn't think Disney needs to bend over backwards at every hiccup, but this is not only a huge inconvenience, it's a miserable and potentially dangerous experience. The word will get out on this, and it will not be pleasant for the PR people at Disney.

That particular case I initially thought was ridiculous. However when I watched the details the guy was legit. Those who are paralyzed like he was CAN have a life threatening event if they are unable to relieve their bladder over a certain volume.
I think there are frivolous law suits out there, maybe he did not need to sue, but his beef was legit.
If people sue over being stuck safely on a monorail, it seems extreme.
Before everyone flames me, I do not agree with the law suit, just that he had a valid medical issue. It seems that the personnel responding to his issue either did not get what he was saying or did not believe him.
