Monk Finale Tonight

Somebody please post a spoiler! I don't get that channel at my house so I can't watch it to find out what happened! I saw the first part last week when visiting family, and I am jsut dying to to know!

Highlight to see in courtesy of Mountain and West Coast viewers:

The gift that Monk had all along from Trudy, her last present to him, that he had refused to open... he had finally opened because he was dying by way of poisoning. It was a tape. On the tape, Trudy told Adrian that before they met when she was in college at Berkeley, she had an affair with a law professor 15 years ago who was the judge in the present... shoot, why can't I remember his name, the guy that is played by Craig T. Nelson. Trudy later told Monk that she was pregnant with the then professor's child but after she was to give birth, Trudy said the little baby girl had died 9 hours later.

Monk put it together, the midwive who had disappeared 12 years ago was the one to deliver the baby and Trudy died because the then professor was up for the postition appellate court judge and he didn't was his mistake to come back to get him.

While Monk is still dying from poisoning, he comfronts the judge and tells him that he knows the judge did it. Monk realized there was something else to the case, something he was missing and he remembered something said about the judge, about how he'll never leave his residence. He went to the judges house to make him dig something up in his yard, while holding a gun to him. It was the missing midwife. As Leland and Randy were going over to arrest the judge, he put a gun to his head and said something (paraphasing, I think) "Take care of her" and shot himself and died.

What did that mean? That little girl never died!!! An old newspaper clipping Monk read said that something about an abandoned little girl on the same day that Trudy gave birth. She was alive, she didn't die 9 hours after birth and she was living in Monterey County. Her name is Molly.

Monk went to see Molly as she was more than happy to see him too! He now had a part of Trudy.

Also, Randy had accepted a job in New Jersey as a police captain... why New Jersey? Because he and Sharona had been seeing each other and he was moving there to be with her.

If anyone has anything to add please feel free, I miss things all the time :)

My thoughts about the ending (spoiler) - The judge, I believe he shot himself because his career was over and he was also going to spend time in prison. He was being vetted for a state supreme court position.

but where did Natalie's boyfriend come from all the sudden? That kind of bothered me, I wish he was phased in a little better.
Quoting this visibly because it's not a spoiler (since he was in last week's episode as well).

He was her husband's friend from the Navy - the doctor on the submarine on that episode a couple of seasons back, where Monk ended up trapped on the sub (and then Monk and Natalie in the water-intake compartment). There was an attraction between him and Natalie, but he's been at sea most of the time since then - and when he wasn't, he also wasn't part of the story line.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that... but still, I wish we could have seen something, her talking about him, resurfacing if even for a day... something to put him back in the picture if only for a second, just to remind us he's around.

Loved the way they ended it. It should have aired everywhere but Hawaii by now, but I'll use spoiler font just in case: Love that Monk is so happy at the end and a little less OCD even, after learning the truth. Kind of predictable that the baby would be alive, after Trudy said she'd never even seen her, but the show often was. She looked just like her.

We have a bunch of old episodes on DVD. We'll have to start watching those again, now! :)

I've watched this show since the beginning and would have liked more of all the clues they left us to be worked in to the ending.

Natalie's boyfriend did come out of nowhere, but that's okay. I can swallow that.

Can't swallow Randy and Sharona. Too contrived. You can almost hear the writers saying, "We need a happy ending for Randy and for Sharona...let's kill 2 birds and marry them." But whatever.

So happy for Leland.

And Mr. Monk. Very touching. He sleeps in the middle and wears regular shirts and can be happy.

I love how they ended it with him checking the stove and saying, "That actually happened to me once." For those who don't remember, it was the first Monk show in which that happened.

I also liked how they had Natalie disappear from our view, then Leland, and Monk last.

Thought the scenes at the end could have been better, but loved the inclusion of poor Dr. Kroeger between Monk and Harold. :lmao:

I'm REALLY going to miss him now that he's gone. :sad1:

I cried when he met her for the first time. Natalie's boyfriend was in a couple of shows last year with her being interested.

Was anyone else afraid - a little- when they said they'd found a body at the end?
For some reason, I immediately thought of the daughter. I know, weird.

I really really liked they way they ended the series.

Thanks to all the great actors and all the great writers and crew for all the years of enjoyment!

Now I can't wait for Psych to start again, I loved the "Private Eyes" commercial. :happytv:

What a great ending!!! :thumbsup2

I'm going to miss this show....

Me too! I love Monk!

Talks about a potential movie... not in the official works but it's being discussed.

YAY! I hope that there is a movie, I am not ready to say goodbye to Mr Monk.

I loved the ending. I am a cheesy person too so happy endings, no matter how contrived are fine with me. I was afraid I would be watching a very maudlin ending but should have known better.

This is one show that my DGD likes to watch when she is here. It's funny, she is a little OCD as well and while nowhere near the extreme as Monk she likes to see his quirks and finds them funny in a way that only someone who likes all her things lined up evenly can.

Miss you already Monk!

I watched this morning on tivo. I loved it! I cried when he found Trudy's daughter. I thought the whole show was nice. Yes it wrapped up all the ends but it was nice to see Natalie find someone she liked and it had been hinted at since Sharona had been in the episode a couple weeks ago about her and Randy. Trite but hey it works. Better than Randy and Natalie.

I think seeing Monk so relaxed and smiling was the best part of it all. He just always looked so trapped in his unhappiness and seeing him "free" was the best ending.

I LOVED that! Monk seemed like a completely different person. Showed what a great acting job he did on this series.:thumbsup2

I LOVED it!!! I thought it was perfect.

I would love if they did a Monk movie but I can't really imagine what it would be about since everything was wrapped up pretty nicely.

I just watched the show on my DVR. I CRIED like a baby! It was a perfect ending, the finale came full circle. I can't wait to finish my DVD collection with the final season!

Plus dont forget guys, if you are looking for some new Monk mysteries, they are on paperback. I have several, they are great reads!

Movies would work. They did it with the Perry Mason series.

YAY! I hope that there is a movie, I am not ready to say goodbye to Mr Monk.
Go to Borders.com or Amazon.com and search for author Lee Goldman. He - with permission - has written several good fan-fic Monk books (also Diagnosis: Murder). In fact, the plotline from one of his books was duplicated in an actual episode just a few weeks ago... and, yes, the book was written long before the episode :teeth:

I agree....he is one of THE best Actors in a long time...:thumbsup2

I watched the ending today. I think it was good and I love that they ended the series before it devolved into terrible plot lines. Sometimes series go on for too long, after all the ideas have been used up.

I too felt the Randy/Sharona thing was a bit shoe horned. I was expecting the entire last season to work a little bit more towards the finale instead of just the last two shows. It seemed like they had the Sharona episode just to get her back in for Randy. I also thought the whole show where Monk got his badge back and then resigned was not necessary.

All that being said it was a very good ending to a well written and well acted show. USA has better shows than most of the "big" networks now. I wonder if Psych will get to move up an hour and will get some more promotion and budget. I could see that as the logical replacement for Monk, I love that show too.

I'm watching it now. Wow I am so sad :sad1: and have been crying for the last 5 minutes. I will certainly miss MONK!!!
