Moms to be Part 4

It's so insane I kind of have to laugh about it...she and her mother got us baby lotion, baby bath stuff, and an organizer thingy for the changing table. Nothing overly extravagant, but a very nice gift. My first thought was about how she was at my baby shower and then robbed a bank!

The woman also stays with my mom (she has dementia) 2 days a week. She was at my parents' house Tuesday night caring for my mom so dad could go to a meeting. That evening she told dad she couldn't take care of mom on Wednesday (a usual day) because she had appointments. Apparently one of them was robbing the bank! I feel awful about the whole thing...she must have been desperate, but it's just SO WEIRD!

That whole situation is just surreal! Hopefully because of the dementia they will work to get her into some sort of treatment program instead- it sounds like she could really use it

I had my 19 week appointment today. It went well. The doctor said the u/s results looked good. She checked Squirt's heartbeat with the doppler and it was in the 140s/150s and she kicked at the doppler a few times. I also learned that I have an anterior placenta which explains why I haven't felt anything yet, even though she was quite the wiggle worm on the u/s. And I gained a pound instead of losing, so yay for that. I'm still gaggy but haven't thrown up in a month, which is nice. I'm ready for the exhaustion and gagginess to go away though.

Yay for feeling better and good ultrasounds. I see from your signature you're having a girl- congratulations! Girl stuff is sooooo much fun to buy!:goodvibes

I mentioned before that I've been sick- pneumonia, bronchitis, it's all setting off my asthma which is normally only really related to seasonal allergies, etc... It's been going on for about 3 weeks now, I've been to L&D for a scare related to it and also the ER when I couldn't breathe. I've done a round of Z-pack, prescription cough meds, and I've been on the nebulizer to keep my airways open. I had been getting better but now it seems to be getting worse again :headache: The cough is worse, I'm needing the nebulizer more, my sides are sore to the touch from all the coughing, I can feel the gunk rattling in my chest, etc.....

I am so sick of being sick! DH and I are supposed to go out for one last hurrah tomorrow night with friends before the baby comes and at this point I don't even feel like it- isn't that awful? I was so looking forward to it too. Not to mention all the regular stuff and baby prep stuff like washing clothes and putting the bassinet together that I should be doing but just feel too blah to do- it's hard to want to do stuff when every time you move you have a coughing fit!

I have a regular appointment scheduled on Monday morning so I'm really trying to just wait until then since I don't really know what they could do anyhow. I'm really beginning to think that being pregnant is keeping me from being able to just get over this. And maybe wonder a bit if the pregnancy isn't part of it or making it worse. Being sick while pregnant sucks.

Piecey - why do so many good dr's have crappy staff? It was the same way at my last OB and at DS's new ped. But it's a crapshoot to find anything better unless someone refers you to a good doc that is accepting new patients. I think you're safe to remove people that are well past their due dates from the list, like all the Februarys.

Irisbus - welcome! :cheer2:

WDWorBust - welcome! :cheer2: I remember you from the TTC thread, so glad to see you hear, hopefully more of those ladies are able to join us soon! Talk to your OB about VBAC vs C-section at your next appt, she should be able to help you make the best decision for you and your baby! :goodvibes

kpm - that must be a pretty small baby to fit in your belly button! :rotfl: How can homebirth be illegal in your state? That's not really something the gov't can control. :confused3

Nette - don't feel guilty about missing work, it would be worse to go in feeling like crap and get everyone else sick. I hope you feel better soon!

Charming - I know how you feel, I only get out of bed on weekends b/c DS makes me!

Lauren - I had a doc in my practice ask me that, just because I didn't gain weight at one appointment. I was gaining at a normal weight prior to that. She was not nice about it either. She was really rude and acted like I wasn't eating on purpose to avoid gaining weight and was telling me how bad that is for the baby. It wasn't true at all, I had just had a sinus infection and was throwing up from the drainage. I never saw that doc again - there are 4 others in the practice that are much nicer.

Lindsay - have you tried anything for the heartburn? I know with DS towards the end it didn't matter what I ate, I had heartburn 24/7, and nothing helped. Even water gave me heartburn. :sad2:

EmALee - glad to hear your daughter is doing well and June 5th is MY b-day! :thumbsup2

Kiki - sorry about that crappy hospital situation, that does suck. I hope you go into labor on your own and can do a homebirth.

DMickey - sorry to hear you're feeling so down about the GBS. Stay off the internet! It sounds like you will have a good system in place with neighbors, moms and in-laws, so even if you do go into labor, Alex will be in good hands!

ZPT - a stroller and baby doll for DS sounds like a good idea, not sure how much DH would like the idea though! It's good to know that your twins were fine with you testing positive for GBS! Sorry to hear about you being so sick. I had walking pneumonia last year and it was just miserable, even though I wasn't pregnant and could take medicine - nothing seemed to help. I also have asthma and was using my nebulizer a couple times a day to control my breathing. Are you on a controller medicine like Advair or Singulair?

Aurora - that is crazy about the lady at your shower!

pixiegoose - so great that everything is well with your daughter so far, I hope you are feeling better soon!

*******************

DS was born in a hopsital with private L&D and PP rooms, thank goodness! Of all the times when you don't want to share a hospital room, having a baby has got to be it! I guess that's motivation to heal quickly and go home!

Now I need to check with the hospital baby #2 will be born at and make sure they have private rooms too, or switch hospitals well before it's time!

Hey ladies!! So much excitement going on. I don't think anyone will ever be able to top the bank robbery though :rotfl: I went in today for my second beta and my numbers more than doubled every 48 hours. My first one was monday and was 178 (14dpo) - today was 959 (18dpo). It's so funny - when you're trying to get pregnant you worry about everything. Then you get pregnant and you worry about everything. And I agree the internet can be so bad. My numbers are on the high side (but still within normal) and of course I'm worried about that too!! I go back next Thursday for another draw and at that point they will most likely schedule an ultrasound. They wait until your HCG is over 2000 to schedule the ultrasound and as long as things keep going well I should be well over 2000 by next Thursday.

Awesome news!!!! Congratulations!!

My best friend is the same way. She had a miscarriage last summer and everything makes her so nervous that something will go wrong with her current pregnancy.

YAYYYYY!! That's so exciting, so happy for you. Are you going to a RE and getting frequent ultrasounds too? They were a lifesaver for the first trimester. I think my numbers were on the high side too. I panicked, it was nothing.

I agree about worrying, I'm still worrying but I think I calmed down. I bought a double stroller this morning!! :scared1: I still have my panic moments, but they do start to become less frequent. :thumbsup2

Pollito - Yes, you are right, the baby must be so small to fit in my belly button ;) I still wonder at what level Abby "gets it." She tells everyone she comes in contact with that she's going to be a bog sister, but she really has no idea what's to come. She loves babies and my sister is due any day now so I think a new cousin will be a nice segway into a new sibling.....or at least I am hoping that is the case!

As for the home births, it's really insane, especially since I live in one of the bluest states out there so you'd think anything would go, but they regulate it by limiting the license of midwives (i.e they are not licensed to attend a home birth, it must be in a hospital or birthing center). Unassistend home birth is not illegal, but getting a birth certificate can be tricky.

LOL I'm sorry if I seem like I"m hardly responding to anything, I just dont know a darn thing about any of this! I can tell you about preemies, NICU's and c-sections ;) I just didn't want any of you to think I'm being b**chy or standoffish! I just have nothing to contribute :)

Have you started looking at accessories for the new stroller yet?
I have!!! :upsidedow

The whole idea of 'triage' is strange to me.
Is that where they put you if they're not sure you're in full blown labor or they're waiting to see if you're going to go into labor?
I had major gallbladder issues with DS and landed in L&D because of the pain (the ER wasn't allowed to treat me, so I got sent off to L&D!)...
I was there 4 times I think. They did fetal monitoring and once they determined DS was good, they gave me my demerol shot, had me wait an hour and sent me on my way. I had a private room, though. TV and all. I can't imagine being stuck in a curtained off area. That'd irk me.

I went to see my cousin last month when she was waiting on an OR to have her daughter... she was in 'triage' at the other hospital in town. It was so bizarre to me! She waited there until pre-op took her. :confused3 Just seemed off. Why couldn't she have waited in her PP room??

What kind of stroller did you get?? We just started looking.....I don't know why but the thought of a double stroller is scary to me :scared1:

I am going to an RE.....I believe I will have ultrasounds fairly frequently. They just won't do the first one until my HCG level is over 2000. Are you still seeing an RE? Will they deliver you? If not when do they send you back to your regular OB? I love my OB and want to deliver in the hospital close to home. But honestly right now the RE is closer and more convenient to work.

Haha I haven't started looking at accessories much because I already have a Mac, but I do think I'm going to get the little "comfort pack" in the gender color of the baby. Maybe I'll get another cupholder too. ;)

I'm not a fan of the triage thing either. Been there done that! I swear when I had DD, I was probably in 3, maybe 4 rooms. I felt like I was playing musical chairs. The one time I had a roommate. Ugh! This girl had visitors *constantly* and it was really annoying, especially when I was trying to sleep. I don't get why they just don't put you in your PP room either. Weird!!

Ohhhh.... I don't, so I'm introducing myself into the world of Maclaren! Thanks so much for that post, I am so excited!! I was dreading trying to pick a double and I saw your post and thought it was a sign! :rotfl:

Holy crap! That is a lot of rooms! That is so crazy to me, because don't they have to clean each of those rooms afterward??
I was a scheduled induction. Got there at 5:30 am, assigned to my L&D room (private) and was there through the duration of my labor. About 16 hours. Then I had a c-section... so I got wheeled all of 50' down the hallway from my L&D room to the OR. Then back to my original L&D room where they hooked up my morphine drip and all that and shortly afterward I was taken to my (private) PP room.

I "graduated" from my RE at my 11-week u/s. They don't really do anything with you past 12 weeks because of insurance. It might be different if you need meds that need monitoring. They said the same thing to me about the hcg over 2000, but they actually scheduled it once my 3rd blood draw doubled (and then some). It wasnt quite 2000 but it would have been shortly thereafter.

Your RE delivers?? OMG that's awesome. Lucky duck. I love my RE. She's a sweetie... but no deliveries. I actually hadn't seen her personally since *before* I conceived this one.

I'm still figuring out my OB dilemma. I'm going to make some more calls on Monday and get the ball rolling. Luckily all the "fun stuff" (STD swab, pap, and bloodwork) are already done. I think I know which hospital I;d like to deliver at, I just have to p ick a practice. :headache:

I've also been using the nebulizer several times a day- good thing I have it I guess. I usually take Advair but I don't usually start until allergy season gets more underway and then I only take it through the fall- my asthma is more triggered by things like pollen, grass, etc..... but I think I'm going to have to go on it sooner this year, it certainly won't make things worse.

Great news! I think the whole journey of TTC, getting pregnant and being pregnant is just full of worry. and then of course after Baby is born it switches over to worrying about baby!

I remember your recent thread about where is all the baby gear, so where did you wind up finding one?? Which one did you get? I wound up with the Bumbleride this time around, I like that I can switch the handle and face baby to me or let baby face out and see what's going on. I'm hoping that if I have baby facing me I can help to stop some of the nosy "let me poke at your baby" kind of stuff when we're out. It also had an optional bassinet attachment that I'm hoping will come in handy when we are out at Grandma's or when we go to travel- Baby will be using a bassinet at home so I'm hoping that for a few months at least we can get away with not having to lug the pack and play around

That does seem odd! At my hospital they have an "antepartum room" where they stash you if you come in and you're not sure it's labor or what is going on. That's where I was when I had my L&D scare last week. It wasn't as big as a regular room but at least it was private and had a door that shut and was right next to the bathroom.

Maclarens are niiiiice :) I have a Volo and a Quest, so I'm an addict. ;) Haha I'm glad I gave you a sign!

Yeah I don't get all the rooms, either. I didnt think of the cleaning aspect either! Yipes!

Thats exactly what I'm afraid of with a VBAC. Go through all the pain and pushing and only to end up a c-section. That would be my luck-- that or uterine rupture!!
