Congratulations Pollito! Beautiful baby.

Well, ladies, I'm out for awhile. My hubby and I had our first ultrasound on Wednesday, but there was no heartbeat. The baby should've measured closer to 8w2d, but was 6w3d. We are taking meds on Monday to take care of everything. We are devastated. I will say I am glad I did so much research before we went b/c I knew there was a possibility of this outcome. My hubby had no clue and was completely blown out of the water. Also, b/c it only took us 2 months to get pregnant, we are hopeful that once we get through all this, physically and emotionally, we will be successful again. Please keep us in your thoughts during this difficult time and I hope to join you ladies again in the future.

I'm so sorry. I had a very similar situation last year. I went in for my first appt at what I thought was 10 weeks and the baby measured 6 weeks. They checked my hcg a couple of days apart and the levels were decreasing - I tried to hold out and let it occur naturally but over 2 weeks later it still hadn't happened so I scheduled the D&C - however I insisted on a final ultrasound. Like you I knew what it would tell me....but I couldn't bear to allow them to do the procedure without checking one last time. Take care of yourself....I used my employers EAP and saw a counselor for a few weeks and it really helped me. Be good to yourself....and know that everyone deals with it differently and there is no "wrong" way.

I am so sorry to hear that.

Ladies I need suggestions. I am almost 34 weeks now and my RCS is scheduled 11/12 - so 6 weeks from this past Friday. I do work full-time with about a 45 minute commute each way so I leave the house around 7:15am and get home typically a little before 6pm. AND I have every intention of working right up until then or I go into labor (whichever comes first :)) I feel like I have run out of time. I am so NOT ready for this baby to get here. We have a small (tiny) house and we are not even close to fitting the baby in our room or all her STUFF in the house. I had my first shower last Sunday and it was so fun and we got a ton of stuff. And Tuesday night is my other shower and I anticipate getting at least as much stuff at that one. (I am very blessed and I recognize that). Right now I have one of the gigantic baby gift bags full of stuff in my living room along with a basket full of stuff. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and am concerned that the baby may be on the larger size (9 pounds-ish) so I don't want to wash the newborn stuff....but I want to have a few NB things in case they are wrong (of course I will wash the one NB onesie we plan to bring her home from the hospital in that DD picked out). I guess I'm just venting. I wanted to paint DD's bedroom before the baby was here and really don't see that happening right now. It wouldn't be so bad but I'm just so tired at this point. Ugh....I guess I'll have 8 weeks to get ready once she's here :rotfl:

WDW, If I were you, I would divide the gifts into two piles: Things you will need right away, and things you won't need for a few months. Take the stuff you won't need for a few months, stick in a box or bag, put it away and don't worry about it right now! Then you'll just have to deal with the stuff you know you will be using right after baby is born. As for the clothes, I'm not sure what I would do either. I think you are right to just wash the one newborn outfit for the hospital and just wait on the rest just in case baby is on the bigger side. I'm sure after baby arrives, if you need to wash the clothes someone will be able to do so for you!

This weekend my mom and I went to Babies R Us and picked up the baby's bedding, so today DH and I have been painting the baby's room. :) After that's done, then we'll be able to get the baby stuff out of the attic and it'll start looking like a real nursery. I"m SO excited!! My grandma sent some money for me with my mom to buy maternity clothes, but I put about 1/2 of it towards some custom made letters to spell baby's name that I found on Etsy. I can't wait until they arrive! We weren't able to do *too* much with DS's room when he was a baby because we were in a rental house, so it's a lot of fun doing baby's room in our own home.

I also had DS draw a few pictures of things he will do with the baby that I will frame and put on the wall. His drawings are too cute!

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. We finally are getting some cooler weather and it has been great. Had a picnic with the dogs at the dog park earlier today which was a lot of fun.

Ariel - I'm so sorry for your loss.

I feel like I have run out of time. I am so NOT ready for this baby to get here.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm due Oct 22 and am so NOT ready. :) I finally had DH pull the bouncy seats and swing out of the attic and am washing the covers and washing a load of baby clothes, blankets, etc. right now. I don't have my hospital bag packed. We bought some bottles & pacifiers today. We still have a ton of stuff in the attic somewhere. I'm also working full-time probably until I go into labor.

I agree w/ skuttle's advice about packing away stuff you don't need til later.

LOVE this idea! I have an entire wall in the baby's room with nothing on it right now. I was looking online for Mickey Mouse artwork or something along those lines, but was not finding much to go with the moon & star Micky theme. Now, if we had a name, I could order some letters. DH is not being very cooperative about picking out a name.

I wouldn't wash much at all, especially if you think she's going to be big. DD7w was 8#2 and she outgrew NB stuff several weeks ago. I believe she's over 12# now.

But like the OP said, go ahead and start organizing. And maybe you can have mom or a friend wash a few things after she's born. That way you can return what isn't going to work.

And you really only need a few things the first couple weeks anyway - a few onesies, a swaddling blanket :thumbsup2, some pacifiers, and vibrating chair, and lots of diapers and wipes.

Ladies, what type of bottle are you going to use? I tried to BF DS but it didn't work out so I'm not sure if I'll have any luck with new DS. Either way, I would still want bottles so DH could help with feedings.

I used Avent with DS. I kept them all thinking we'd get pregnant much quicker, but I know I will have to throw them all out after 7 years!

I started looking up bottles and, even though this is baby #2, I'm feeling overwhelmed! I know every baby is different, but I would still love to hear your opinions. This is the one baby item I'm struggling with!

so sorry for your loss. i too had 2 miscarriages and then went on to have a healthy baby girl and now am expecting again. even though it is common, it doesn't make it any easier.

i don't blame you for another US> i have a friend whose co-worker was scheduled for a d and c for a miscarriage and asked for another us. they ended up seeing a heartbeat and she went on to have a healthy baby boy. it is rare- but like you said, you don't want to regret it later if you don't ask.

I am so sorry this happened. Prayers to you and your DH.

Thanks, ladies. I did ask for another u/s but both the doc and nurse told me they checked over everything thoroughly and there were several factors that led to them confirming with the one. So I took the meds today but they really haven't worked. Had some mild cramping and mild bleeding but thats all. I will have to try again in the AM and if that doesnt work, will have to do the d&c. Anyway, thanks again for all your kind words.

Allison, I swore I wouldn't give into the Dr. Brown's hype. We bought soothie bottles that my sister-in-law, who has formula fed 3 babies, liked best, and she's tried a lot. We got DS home from the hospital, and I had my few soothie bottles that we had to wash, since we had planned on bfing. DS wouldn't take them! At all! My dad had to go with DH to target to buy one or two of several. Wouldn't you know, he loved Dr. Brown's! He later took the soothies, but now we're adding more Dr. Brown's to our collection because he just eats better from them. They completely live up to the hype. I just wish I had given in sooner!

I could have written this post. My DD is 7 yrs old and we still had her bottles. Everyone said I can't use them b/c now BPA free, etc. So, we went to Buy Buy Baby yesterday and after the sticker shock price of bottles, we decided to just stick w/ Avent b/c that is what we used w/ my DD and we still have the bottle sterilizer and bottle warmer for Avent bottles. I thought about the Dr. Brown, but DH said he didn't want to use them b/c of the extra piece to clean. We do not have a dishwasher. So, we bought Avent. I hope they don't leak. I've read some complaints about leaky / faulty bottles. I debated getting the Playtex and the inserts, but stuck with what we knew from DD which was Avent.

We bought a few different types of bottles and the Dr. Browns have been the best by far! Even with a dishwasher I hand wash the bottles, and even with all the little pieces, it doesn't take that long.

With DD I used the avent. They used to have the kind with liners and we loved them, but they did tend to leak. This time I've been using platex drop ins. I also have 1 avent that came with my breast pump. With the avent I find you have to be careful not to over tighten as it makes bubbles in the milk.

We use Dr. Brown's bottles. They have so many parts, and can be a pain to wash, but they are great bottles.

I also have some VentAire I used with G. They work fine as well.

I BF dd until she was 15 months old and used the Playtex Premium Nursers with the drop-ins. She did great with them. Like you I had kept all the old bottles and had intended to re-use just the rings and outsides (since they use inserts anyway)....but since they are not BPA free I trashed them all and am getting new. I just hope this baby takes them well.

Hello ladies.........

The receptionist (not my doctor) mentioned he would be doing a non-stress test at my next appt, 38 weeks.

What is this all about? I googled it and have an idea, but figured I'd ask for anyone who experienced it.

This pregnancy has been pretty easy and I'm healthy, baby is healthy, blood pressure fine, etc. I'm guessing they are doing it b/c I hit the ripe old age of 35 and am considered Advanced Maternal Age.

On another note, I had my 37 week appt last night and he said I have progressed quite a bit from last week. I'm 60% effaced (spelling?) and 1-2 cm dialated. So, he thinks I'm going to go b4 my due date, 10-22. Guess I should get that hospital bag packed! Although, I'm not going to get my hopes up. I'll probably end up going past my due date.........

Everyone is different - for some this would mean you are heading in tomorrow - and for others like me - well, I walk around town for the last month of my pregnancy 60% effaced and 4 cm dialated. It is one slow long haul with me. But, yeah, I would say get your bag packed! Just in case.

I have an NST done every appt now. Thanks to my pg induced blood pressure. Basically, they hook you up to the fetal monitor and you get to spend a relaxing 20 minutes in a recliner listening to the babies heart beat. The dr just wants to see how the heartbeat is when they're moving around. Wouldn't you know on monday, Isabel decided that she wanted to sleep instead. :rotfl: Had to drink ice water to wake her up. The NST is a easy and just an extra layer of survalence as my dr would say.

NSTs are no big deal. You pretty much sit being hooked up to a monitor. They measure the baby's heart rate and movement. They take between 45 minutes to an hour and then you have your blood pressure taken. They also do a quick us to measure fluid. I did NSTs 2-3 times a week, every week for the last 3 months of my pregnancy.

Yep, that will probably be me. He keeps telling me I'm going to go early, but I don't believe him which is why I haven't packed my bag yet. I'll probably end up going past my due date!

Thanks for the responses. Is this something my DH should go to? He came to the last two appts and just sat in the waiting room since I didn't think he needed to be in the room for internal exams. Just wondering if this is something where my DH would be able to listen or see anything.........

sunlover13: I think it depends at what your dr is going to do. With mine, the NST only takes about 20 minutes and doesn't involve an us. The only thing my DH would do is sit with me and be able to hear her heartbeat. He hasn't come with me yet, but might next monday. I think it all depends on what you want to do, but if you're NST is like mine, your DH might get a little bored. Just my opinion though. :)
