Moms to Be Part 3

ok, here's a question. I just went in for a tummy check and was told that I have a tipped/tilted uterus. Anyone else have this and how does it affect pregnancy? googling just freaks me out :rotfl:

5 days til we find out what we are having!!! yay!!!!

Glad to hear that everyone is doing well :goodvibes

Hulagirl - A friend said she had a tilted uterus and that it caused a lot of backpain throughout the pregnancy, but other than that she was fine, nothing needed to be done. I don't know if that's the normal situation or not though.

Adi - I get it! I thought you meant none at all and I was thinking "Wow, she's in for an easy labor having made so much progress without any contractions that she can even feel!" Of course, hopefully it will still be very easy!

Cappygirl - I think what Adi said about the contractions is right. It seems drs handle it differently though. My SIL started feeling contractions with her 2nd kid around 25 weeks and her dr made her go on medication for the duration of the pregnancy. I started feeling contractions around 16 weeks with my 1st 2 and my dr was totally unconcerned and said it is completely normal. This time they started around 14-15 weeks and I've been on weekly progesterone shots since then (but I was starting them at that point anyway because my son was preterm). When I told my OB that the contractions had stopped for a couple of weeks, but have since resumed, he ordered an ultrasound to be sure they are not causing cervical shortening or dilation.

So I guess it depends on the situation, but I do think in the majority of cases it's normal to feel BH contractions from early on.

SBell, How is Kathy?? I always think of her since I left this thread. From ;) one advanced maternal age Mom to another! Tell her to hang in there not much longer. You guys are going to be great parents! FYI, I was 40 when we had DD and DH was 48. Every moment is worth it. :cloud9:

Mrs. Disney Ron (Ann)
Thanks for the kind words. Cathy is doing great, though she is stressing over getting everything done to the house before the big day.

Hello guys!!!! Sorry it has taken me so long to update everyone, but here goes!

Connor arrived at 12:34 last Friday, October 2nd. Like planned he arrived via c-section, and it went perfectly. Being a planner, this was a great option for me, and we arrived pretty much stress free and knowing pretty much what to expect. I'm really glad we went this route.

We got to the hospital at 10, got all checked in and hooked up to the IV. Chris was with me the whole time, and my parents came in for a while while we waiting for the time to arrive. Then they wheeled me to the surgical suite, hooked up my epi and we got started. The process was so smooth. Chris sat beside me and held my hand, and the epi worked wonders. The only thing that was a little irritating was the sheet kept falling in my face, but one of the anesthesiologists kept pulling it back for me. I really didn't feel anything except some tiny tugs, but nothing painful in the least. The entire process took less than an hour total, from epi to stitching me back up. My doctor confirmed that the c-section was the right route to go, as his head was pretty big. In fact, she said the reason he still hadn't really dropped despite his size and maturity was because his head couldn't even fit through the top of my pelvis, so there was nowhere for him to go from where he was. Chris got to go over with the nurses to weigh Connor and do his Apgar scoring, and then they wheeled all of us to recovery. Chris took Connor out to the nursery to show him off to our parents and his brother, and I just chilled for a few minutes, then they came back and we tried nursing for the first time.

After an hour or so in recovery they wheeled me to the postpardum suite, and our families were allowed to come back and visit. Everyone was so excited, and Connor was just so sweet. Chris took him out to do his bath a while later, and then we had some more visitors. We were really glad later that day when everyone left and we finally felt like we had some time to just be a family.

The only complication I had was that when I was nursing Connor that night I would get really overheated, and wound up getting sick, which was pretty painful because of the incision. Luckily it had been over 24 hours since I had eated anything, and I had drank very little also, so it wasn't awful. Because of that they kept my epi in about 5 hours longer than planned because they wanted to make sure I could keep down my pain meds before they unhooked it.

The hospital staff was great, and the night shift nursery nurse was the same one the entire time we were there, which was great. Nurse Lucy made our life a lot easier, and really helped us out a great deal. We stayed 4 nights at the hospital, so we didn't leave until Tuesday afternoon. It was very nice, we had lots of visitors, lots of bonding time, and lots of help from the staff. I don't think I would change anything about the experience.

We have been home now since Tuesday, and things are going pretty well. I'm struggling with feeding, and Connor is struggling with latching, so that gets pretty frusterating. But, we are learning as a family. Connor had his one week check-up yesterday and is doing great, and he had his pictures taken by my father-in-law yesterday as well and made an impromptu visit to my school when I took some stuff up to drop off. The dogs are very curious about him, but haven't been formally introduced yet. Right now he is sound asleep on Chris's lap.

I think thats about it! Feel free to ask me questions if you have any, I'll answer anything I can!

Here are some pictures before I forget!

LinzyBrooke - CONGRATS on your gorgeous little guy!! How much did he end up weighing/measuring - or did I miss that in the story. I'm so envious you have your little guy in your arms already. I know my due date is still a week away - but I just can't wait to have my girl in my arms.

Thanks so much for sharing the pictures. You have a gorgeous baby and family - CONGRATS again!! I'm so happy to hear that your birth experience went well! :goodvibes I'd been waiting on you to come over and post the details - glad you were able to get the time. CONGRATS

Congratulations!! Connor is one handsome little guy. I thought we were the only Big 12 family on this thread. (But we, um, root for a different team. And I'm sorry this pic is so huge. I'm 10 minutes away from feeding time, and don't have time to resize it.)

Linzybrooke - Congrats on Connor's arrival! He's certainly a handsome little man and seems like he was pretty big too. Glad to hear the birth went smoothly, other than the sickness bit. I remember those days of learning to nurse and I hope it goes quickly for you and Connor is latching like a pro in the next couple of days.

I don't think I got the weight/length either, but if you want to post that, I'll amend the list with that info.

Oh, and you are so lucky to have your FIL cause those are great photos! I wish I had some like that of mine when they were newborns.

:scared1::scared1: That would put me at the top of the list :scared1::scared1:

Although, I am starting to feel that this baby is staying ti she turns 18, lol. The only change I had yesterday was that I am 80% effaced (only 20 left!) - but still a loose 1cm dilated and baby at station 0. . . They made me feel a bit better and told me that for first time mom's effacement is what is usually the hardest/takes the longest. . . . but still. I would like to at least get ONE real contraction to know what it feels like and know that my body is doing SOMETHING. . . . I was telling DH that this must be part of the mindset you need to actually make it through labor and pushing - being so ready to have the baby and feeling like it will never end, that when you get to labor you are so happy it is happening you find the strength to make it through it, lol!

Ha! I forgot those details! Anyway, he was 8lbs, 14 oz and 19.5" long.

She will be here before you know it!

Melessa, as long as you aren't a Longhorns fan its alright by me!!!! Though seriously, I grew up in MN and haven't ever really had much college spirit...don't tell my family! She is beautiful!

Thanks! And I think it's illegal to live in Norman and root for the Longhorns. I am nervous about playing them next week, though. When we struggle to beat Baylor we give Texas room to run all over us.

Congrats again on your handsome baby Conner!

Adi - With both of my kids I didn't get 1 contraction (real that is) till I was in labor. No false labor business or even thinking I was in labor till I actually was. So don't worry about it too much, hard as that is cause I know what the anticipation is like!

Melessa - That picture is precious. My inlaws are from New Orleans and huge LSU fans. Not sure if that is the same conference that you guys are all in as I don't really follow college football since that is not big at all in the northeast. Anyway, we have received many tiny LSU outfits for my kids. ;)

We're off to a cousin's baby shower 2 hours from my mom's house. And the power seat on my car broke on the 44 hour drive here Friday night, so no idea how I am driving home tomorrow (my husband took a train back today cause he has work tomorrow).

That gives me some comfort, thank you - I know another first time mom who has been having a few contractions a day for the last couple weeks - and I was starting to feel like there is something wrong with me - as silly as it sounds i was starting to worry that maybe my body doesn't know how to go into labor. But if you didn't have any real contractions until you were in actual labor, it gives me some hope that I could be the same :) I think what makes it more frustrating is everyone asking if I feel anything, etc. etc. I love my mom but she is driving me insane, lol!

So sorry to hear about your car!! I hope you can find some remedy or get it fixed before you head out - 44 hour drive?!? That is insanely long (I'm hoping it was a typo). Have fun at the shower! I know you aren't so thrilled about it, so hopefully you can still have a good time :)

He's gorgeous! And look at all that hair! I thought my boy had a lot of hair, but little Connor has him beat :rotfl: Congratulations on your little man :goodvibes

And Adi, look at you girl! You're a the top of the list now! You must be so excited...the time passes by so quickly though. Your little girl will be here before you know it!

Thanks for the shout our Vero :) I can't believe I'm at the top - seems like I was just at the very bottom!

Ha, yes, it's 4 hours, not 44! Gosh, I think I'd die. My husband suggested driving to New Orleans sometime and I almost killed him and I think that is something like 18 hours. 4 is my limit right now.

Today's 2 hours trek to NY state actually took more like 3 each way because of traffic, which I never in my life expected. Seriously, I never knew so many people went upstate on Sunday afternoons, it was crazy. My mom drove though (we took her car since mine is now defective) so it gave me time to read through the baby name book to search for a middle name (or possibly even a different first name, though my husband is pretty set on Tierney at this point too ;) ). So I have my list, now to get my husband to find a name on it that he likes....

Oh, and yes, Adi, not 1 contraction other than the BH. Everyone else I know had some false labor or intermittent contractions, but not me. 1st contraction I got was the beginning of the end!

As far as not going into labor on your own, I do know 2 people like that, but I think that is somewhat rare. One of them was pregnant with twins and had to be induced (ended up in a c-section cause the 1st baby flipped to breech at the last minute) at 40 weeks and the twins were 7lbs 15oz each!!! Imagine that! But again, I think that's pretty rare, so just assume for now that you'll be one of the lucky women who don't get contractions till labor starts. I actually think I preferred it that way cause there was literally no guessing, I knew those babies were coming the day they did.

My mom and friends from work call me that, I never expected to see it on here ha ha :thumbsup2

I'm excited for you! I can't wait to see pictures of your little princess princess:

Ugh, sickness is going around here like CRAZY!!! Everyone I know has a kid with the same symptoms!! DS was sick over the weekend, but not horribly. Started with a headache on Friday at school, then a fever, and now a hacking cough. I do not have time to be sick! It doesn't fit into my schedule!!!

Didn't even realize I did it. . . I have a younger cousin (12 years old) that's named Veronica and we call her Vero. Maybe it is a Miami thing or something - but all Veronica's I've heard of were called Vero by someone :) Of course you have to say it in Spanish ;)

PS I can't wait to post pictures of her either! She's very comfortable though. . .

Glad it was only 4 hours!! What are you going to do about the car??

Glad to know about the no contractions til real labor thing. . . I guess I could be one of those. If I make it to my Friday appointment without the baby I'm going to ask about when they would consider things like stripping my membranes and such.

As uncomfortable as I am, I think everyone asking me is what is driving me over the edge - my mom calls a couple times a day and says "anything new/different" - UGH, no! Every morning my mother in law asks too, how I'm feeling, etc. If DH did I think I would hit him, he doesn't OBVIOUSLY I would tell my mom, mil and him if ANYTHING was happening ;) He just talks to her in my belly and tells her he's ready to see her, lol. I can be patient - I know first time moms usually go later and that I have two weeks after my EDD in which she can come without medical intervention, but ugh. . . people, lol!
