Wow Adi! I can't believe how close you are!

Justhat - I hope your daughter feels better and that the rest of you can fight it off. I've been surrounded by coughing nephews and I'm just holding my breath hoping I don't catch it. Here's hoping we all stay healthy!

Adi - Any progress is great! I can't believe you've only got another week and change till your actual due date.

I'm home with a sick 5yo today.
It is crazy I am so close to my due date - back when I found out I was pregnant in February, I felt like October was a million years away!! I'm really hoping she'll come before the due date (so long as she'll be healthy) 0 because her head being at zero station is quite uncomfortable. . .

Sorry to hear your daughter is sick - hopefully she is on the mend and that none of you get it from her!! I hope your trip(s) go on without a hitch :)

Was this your big U/S that you had to reschedule? That would drive me batty. Mine is in 2.5 weeks at 17w5d and I can barely wait that long to find out what this baby is ... I am tempted to go to a place 2 hours from here that will try for gender as early as 15 weeks!!

I'm not Justhat - but she already had her gender scan :)

I would wait til your scheduled scan to try and find out the gender. . . the bigger the baby is the easier they will be able to see and less likely to make mistakes. Not to worry you, but I know two people who just in the last couple months were both told girl at the first u/s and then found out it was a boy at the next u/s. I've had them check at EVERY ultrasound since the initial because of people's stories like that. . . and will still be looking to be sure they were right, lol. Can't wait to hear how your U/S goes!

Wow Adi! I can't believe how close you are!

I know! I am excited and scared all at the same time!! This first time thing, I think, makes it a little scarier because I have NO clue what to expect. No idea what a contraction feels like, or how to push, or how anything will feel, etc. I think the waiting is hard too. Now that it is safe for her to come any day now. . . its always on the back of my mind - will today be the day?? And I've been getting those calls - especially from my mom - just to see how I'm doing ;)

Adi - I know exactly how you feel! I've been going through the same fears of the unknown since this is our first too. Have you taken any classes to help prepare you?

I did. . . took a 6 week birthing class at the maternity center I go to. . .

Class one was an intro/overview, and we learned some good exercises. Class two was on birthing; three on nutrition and birth control (for after); 4 on breastfeeding; 5 on complications; 6 on newborn infant care. We did the exercises at the beginning of class and they were great in answering questions. . . but everything is still new and I'm a worry wart. . . so I'll let you know how it all goes once I get past it :)

DMickey - Adi's right, I did have that ultrasound already. Like you, we were kinda pulling for a girl, and turns out it is. That ultrasound I was 18 weeks and change, but with my 1st 2 kids I was 16 weeks (just due to scheduling issues) so waiting longer this time was a bit of a challenge. I'd probably just wait till your 'real' ultrasound to find out, but I totally understand that anticipation!

Oh, and this ultrasound was to check my cervical length. Since my son was preterm and I am on these progesterone injections to prevent another preterm birth, my dr wants to check and be sure that the contractions that I'm having are benign and not causing any shortening or dilation. My contractions ceased for a good 3-4 weeks after starting the shots, but have since resumed.

Cappygirl - I did get the 'cough-y' bug already, but I don't really know where it came from as neither of my kids had it, for a change. Luckily, Madison seems totally fine and is now playing with one of the new kittens so I hope it was a short-lived bug.

Adi - I took birthing/parenting classes with my first too. I do think they helped, though I will say once I was in the delivery room I totally forgot about finding a focal point, breathing, etc. I made my husband do the parenting class (more than for myself that is) and I do think that they helped him feel more comfortable in the beginning.

With that said, I did have my son totally naturally, so keep that in mind when you forget the techniques and are all in a panic and whatever! I know you're hoping to go that route and it can be done! Of course, that is not at all to say you shouldn't get pain relief if you want/need to. I did get an epi with my 1st kid and it was a blessing that I did as she needed forceps to come out and they tore me up internally. So not only would that have hurt, but the stitching afterwards would have been nuts! So remember that things happen for a reason and not to get upset or disappointed in yourself if that's how it turns out. Now, someone remind me of that come January!

And thanks for the good trip wishes. Neither one is particularly exciting to me. I HATE driving to NJ and the baby shower is for a cousin who is having her 2nd child, 2nd girl no less, due 2 weeks after the 1st one's birthday (meaning she could reuse all her old stuff), and, well, I could go on. I think I'm partially just annoyed that she's having another kid cause she's single, it's a different dad than the 1st one, it wasn't really an 'accident' (I had 2 unplanned, I know how that is and would totally get that), and she doesn't seem to care that these kids have crappy lives. She's living in a 1 bedroom apt that she rents from her parents, only works part time, etc. It truly is crazy and sad for the kids involved.

The other trip is a conference my husband has to attend/in-law visit. My husband's whole family is in New Orleans so it's pretty convenient for us that the conference is there. Of course, he'll be working most of the time so we can't do too much family stuff with him, but at least my kids can see their cousins and I can meet my newest niece (she was born in April).

I am going to weight like 80 lbs more than I did last week if I don't stop eating my son's birthday cake! It is insane, and honestly it's not even that good (it's a grocery store cake, so pretty generic), yet it's all I have eaten today.

Thanks for the tip(s)! Thankfully I have a midwife and student midwives that will be there - the student midwives will be acting sort of like doula's - so they should be able to help me remember everything I forget :rotfl: Or at least coach me some. DH went to only one class (because of work) but he also went to "Daddy Bootcamp" and he came back very informed and feeling better about everything (except he's still concerned abut diaper changes :rotfl2: ).

I will try to not be let down/disappointed if things don't go exactly as I plan them - because I know labor is unpredictable - but I know I'll be going in with the mindset that I can do it - and hope for the best!!

Does anyone get a pulling-type feeling in their stomach while they walk? Ihave been noticing it more and more lately. And I am not walking great distances. I feel it when I am walking from my parking spot to my office (about 4 blocks).

BabyTigger- I've been feeling pulling when I walk as well and I don't walk long distances either. I've really noticed it when I walk across my campus from class to my car.

Adi- You're almost there!! That's so exciting!

Sorry I haven't been posting much, getting busy with school and getting everything ready for Evan's arrival. 6 or so weeks to go! I can't believe it. I'm so ready to meet this little guy!

Sounds sort of like braxton hicks to me. . . .

But it seems so far away. . . . lol. Seems like it went flying by til 37 weeks, and now has slowed down - I think it is the anticipation/waiting. . . . and I still haven't had a contraction or anything so I am afarid I'll be going way past due :scared1: We'll see!!

I had that around 22 weeks and bought the maternity belt which helped a little. Now that I'm at 25 weeks, I really don't feel it as much.

I also have that pulling quite a bit, and I didn't really get it with my other 2. It's different, for me, from the Braxton Hicks in that those are an uncomfortable tightening around my belly.

Adi - Be glad you haven't felt any contractions yet but that you've made all that progress anyway! I get 2-3 BH contractions a day and they are very uncomfortable, though short-lived.

Just checking in to see if we had any new babies to celebrate!!!!!

Hope everyone is feeling well!!!!

Thinking of you all, especially those getting real close...my girl was stubborn and two weeks late. Hopefully you all don't have to be so patient waiting.

SBell, How is Kathy?? I always think of her since I left this thread. From ;) one advanced maternal age Mom to another! Tell her to hang in there not much longer. You guys are going to be great parents! FYI, I was 40 when we had DD and DH was 48. Every moment is worth it. :cloud9:

I just started getting those this early. I still think it's round ligament pain and stretching. I think the baby is going through a growth spurt right now because I feel weird pulling and stretching the last few days.

Hi all,
Here's a strange and embarrassing question for you. I also don't really know how to describe what's happening so please bear with me.
I'm 25 weeks and I've just started feeling little flutters "down there" kind of like I'm about to pee. I've read that incontinence is common so I was thinking maybe I'm on the verge of that happening - but it doesn't happen when I'm sneezing or laughing - it's just pretty random. I'm starting to think that maybe it happens when the baby kicks my bladder??
Anybody else experience anything similar?

Cappygirl, I know when I get contractions, it does something to my bladder cause I suddenly feel like I have to pee. Maybe it's related to that (like a contraction you're not feeling?) or like you said, the baby kicking. I definitely get bladder kicks and can feel them so I am sure that is a possibility too.

Thanks Justhat! Is it normal to have small contractions this early on?

Oh I get BH contractions (on one side or the other, or just in the middle of my tummy) - just haven't had any real ones.

When I first felt the baby move it felt like little vibrations down there, especially near my bladder.

And on your question about BH contractions - my midwife says that your uterus spasm's and contracts the whole time - just you usually don't feel anything until later on. I've been getting some BH's since I was about 25-26 weeks, though not super often. But to me what you are describing sounds like the baby moving. I still have a similar feeling - it is when she wiggles her head around down there or is moving her hands.

Thanks Adi! Once again you calmed my freak out!

I'm a super duper worry wart. . . that is why I have a fetal heart monitor next to the bed, lol. . . I don't know how I would have made it sane til now. . . we usually listen once a day (we have missed days during the pregnancy - but some days I've listened more than once). . .

Anyhow, glad to help. . . that's what were all here for!
