Moms - solo trips with kids

I'll be taking my girls (5 and 8) on a trip without DH in December. We are going as a family in June and are buying APs. We are new DVC members, and I can't wait to see WDW at Christmas. My husband will be out of vacation time, so he will have to miss it. I am looking forward to "girl time".

I'm surprising my dd (5) with a trip in August. She begins kindergarten this year and this will be a last "mom & me" fling before the world gets its say in her life! I am so excited and I know she's going to be blown away as the entire trip will be a complete surprise. One of the best parts for her will be alone time with Mom (and vice versa). My dh will be at home with dd (14mos). When her time comes I will do the same with her. I think it's a great idea. I get choked up just thinking about her telling her own kids "when I was 5 Mom took me to the airport one day..."

Have the time of your lives!!! :goodvibes

I got all choked up just reading that! You and your DD will have a wonderful time together! I have gone on solo Disney trips with each of my three children and they have been fantastic experiences. It's always nice to get away from the craziness of day to day life and go have fun at Disney, but it's especially nice when you can totally focus your attention that is normally split several ways on just one child. I have such special memories of each 'just mom & me' trip I've taken with my kids, things I'll remember forever and I hope that they will too!

As a single mom I travel alone with DS7 all the time. We've gone to Banff in Canada for a week, Skiing in Vermont, Sanibel Island, New York City, Mexico and a number of other places.

We've only been to WDW once and I went with a friend and her daughter. We had a blast but I kept thinking it might have been even better if it was just the two of us, so I'm planning a mother/son trip for either this summer or this fall.

Of course since I'm a wimp, and DS is a little daredevil I don't have the problem of only riding the "kiddie" rides.

Me either!!

DS loves all the rides he is tall enough for - the faster, the better! He would ride Test Track all day if he could...same for SplM, BTMRR, etc. I am the wimp in the family so usually DH goes with him over and over, once I go on the token time. But I suppose I could make a few exceptions.

We're staying at BCV's at this point...he loves SAB and I love the BC and I thought it would be such fun to be able to hang out at the pool a lot...but I also kindof wonder if maybe we should stay at VWL until DH comes down and then switch to BCV. Being near the MK would be excellent...

I am so tickled at how many moms there are out there who've done this. I used to do a mom and me trip every May with my mom and I miss that desperately since she's been gone. DS is a lot of fun and we're very close, but he's going through a spoiled and snotty phase right now that makes it hard to imagine travelling just the two of us.

On the other hand, tonight is DH's class night so it's "Max and Mommy Night" and so far we've had fun.

Now I have to decide if this will be a surprise trip or if he can help me plan!
