Chapter 3: POOL Time and Everyone gets a nap....or do they?
After Lunch, the kids reminded us that we had PROMISED that they could go in the pool. Well, I dont make promises I cant keep, so we got out the swimsuits (from the LIME GREEN carry-on), got suited up, and headed down to the pool.
First we tried to find somewhere to put our stuff.....wasnt gonna happen. We took three laps of the pool looking for an empty chair. Towels EVERYWHERE on lounge chairs. Now, I dont mind taking up ONE chair for a family with pool stuff. Its nice to have your stuff off of the ground when you get out of the pool. It stays dry(er) and clean(er)....but there were obviously areas of one person, one chair set ups, and to me, thats rude and selfish. If youre not USING the chair for anything other than a stuff-holder, use one chair for your entire family. Finally one twenty-something girl decided to go back to her room, and we snagged a lounger. It was all we needed, so we were happy.
In fact, as we picked up our stuff, a lady asked us if we were leaving, and we said YEP. She commented on us only having one lounge chair, but oh well, itll do. *Sigh* I really wish I had taken pics of the lounge chairs, because, I swear, we were in the pool over an hour, and not a single towel had moved....Meanwhile, people were all doing laps with their stuff....
Anyway, I digress....
While we had been doing our laps, we had grabbed towels. But we couldnt find the life vests. When we stayed at AKL, they just had them in a big bin that you could rummage through and grab out of....apparently, WL had some probems with people taking life vests and keeping them for the week in their rooms, so there werent enough to go around, so they were signing them out at the bar. We decided this wasnt worth the hassle....also we only had our room keys with us, and it was unclear as to whether or not they wanted a deposit.
Now, our kids can swim OK...well almost swim would probably be putting it better. They can keep their heads above the water USUALLY and are fine as long as they are in water that is only slightly above their heads. Brianna can float on her back, too. This is why we werent too worried about life vests. All the kids wanted to do was to go down the slide and play in the kiddie pool. However...the lack of life vests would come back to bite us later in the trip......
So, the kids ran off to the slide, and HHBG and I went into the water at the base of the slide. There was also a life guard standing right there at the base. Apparently, she didnt agree with the policy to sit across the 3-foot-deep pool and wait for a kid or adult to have problems, she wanted to be right there. This made me feel better about the no life vests decision. Thank you, anonymous life guard.
The kids went down the slide about 3 million times....give or take. They were coming down together, which was cute but required both HHBG and I to be there to catch them. Finally, at one point, only Spencer came down....as I stood there waiting for Brianna, a lady poked me and said Is that your daughter??
Brianna was standing at the side of the pool, sobbing. Uh oh.
I rushed over and asked her what was wrong. She showed me her knee. It was bleeding from a small scrape. Apparently, she had decided NOT to listen to one of my 3 billion admonitions to WALK, DONT RUN, and had slipped going up to the slide. The life guard came over and gave her a band-aid, and we decided we were done with pool time for the day.
CUE TANTRUMS

(these are not laughing smilies)
We led the tantruming children back to the room, the refrain of I WASNT FINISHED! I DONT WANNA GO BACK! ITS NOT FAIR! WAAAAAHHH echoing behind us.
We finally got back to the room and saw that ME had dropped off our bags while we were in the pool. HHBG immediately hopped into the shower to wash off the chlorine. After he got out, I sprayed off the kids, got out their dinner outfits, told HHBG to get them dressed, and hopped into the shower myself.
This is what greeted me when I came out of my shower:
Since Brianna was on my spot, and the top bunk wasnt very comfortable, I took nap time, and unpacked instead.
Soon it was time for some Dinner.
Coming soon: Did we ever ask for that Ketchup??
