Where do these allusive pin codes come from? How and why does Disney generate them? Who gets them?

I am just curious who out there has ever got one and what it looked like. I would love for someone to post what one looks like. Are they tied to your Disney history? Do the come in the mail? Are they in emails? Could I get one with a Disney Movie Club order? So many questions, so pleas feel free to answer one or two of them, and by all means, feel free to add additional ones. :confused3

All you need in order to be eligible to receive a PIN code is an account with Disney. PINs are tied to your name/home address and could be emailed or snail mailed. There is no known way to get one. They seem to be by luck as far as anyone knows. Some people say they have gotten one shortly after ordering the planning DVD or customizable park maps, but many people do that and never get one. The emails will come from Disney Destinations and have a 15 digit PIN number. Not all Disney Destinations emails contain a PIN, and some only have a 3 digit code that is only an advertisement for rack rates.

Getting ready to book our trip tomorrow. Was pricing it last week and also chatted with a CM asking many questions and then was emailed from Disney Destinations the details of the trip I am booking tomorrow with a note on the bottom that said "be sure to mention this code when booking your trip"...was this a pin??

Was it a 15 digit PIN number or was it a 3 digit code?

I'm getting emails with PINs in my work email, in my last name but my parents address cause I booked a room for them (anniversary gift and family reunion). And having a hard time using them.

I don't get a any directed to my address on any of my other email addresses or family email addresses.

Don't understand and when I call they don't understand this either - they say it's not for me even though it has my last name and my email address.

Between the two of us, my wife and I have gotten several pin codes throughout the years. I don't know why. We do have a Disney account (obviously); we have ordered the planning DVD (but it has been 4-5 years since we did); I have a habit of going to the Disney site and planing potential trips, many of which never come to pass; we have not acted on many of the pin codes we have been sent because it was not a convenient time for us.
All this to say, who knows why the codes keep coming but I am glad they do.
