I decided to take my mother to WDW this year in early December for a long weekend and am looking to stay in a moderate. I've been to WDW just about every year for the past 25 or so years, but never stayed in a moderate. Our last stay was at the AKL last year. Knowing very little about the moderates, I read as many threads as possible on this board, but quite frankly am confused, as there are so many differing opinions.

My first choice was CBR, but then read good reviews on the Coronado so I booked there. PO French Quarter does not have any availability, but the other moderates do. Quite honestly we will be spending very little time at the hotel, as this will only be a long weekend and we will be in the parks most of the time. I already booked Candlelight and Mickey's Very Merry. I've also been thinking about PO Riverside so that we can take a boat to DTD on our check-out day since our flight is not until 5PM and we will have time to kill. BTW, mom is in great health so walking is not an issue.

Any thoughts on this subject would be greatly appreciated, as it is driving me crazy.

We stayed at CBR a few years ago and loved it. It was a beautiful resort. I have not stayed at any of the other moderates so I can't comment. I have heard great things on them all. I think you will be happy no matter where you stay. After all you will be at Disney. Have a great trip:goodvibes

Hmm... I think in your situation, it really just depends on what your "decor taste" is...

Quick question though... are you traveling 12/1-12/2 or 12/8 - 12/9? Be aware that these are Pop Warner weekends and some teams/groups are presented with the option of staying at Port Orleans Riverside or Caribbean Beach.

For adults, and your situation, I would recommend CSR or Port Orleans French Quarter. CSR is a great resort, very adult friendly, and beautiful grounds. POFQ is very small and charming. Has a lovely adult feel and I do greatly perfer the room decor here over any other moderate resort. It does only have one pool, but if your not planning on swimming much, it shouldn't be a problem (plus its a little cooler). I like having a traditional food court for stopping in late at night for snacks and drinks.

It would be a tough choice for me! I do find CSR to have slightly better transportation and quieter at times... but the room decor at POFQ is a lot more appealing to us as well as the smaller set up.

We like CBR. You can check out my pictures below. Depending on how well your mother gets around, you may want to splurge and get a preferred room.

We are going 12/6 to 12/9 so Pop Warner at CBR and POR caught my attention loud and clear.

WE love CSR. It has a great atmosphere and because the convention centre is attached, its usually caters to "tame" crowds,

We love CSR also, the best transportation. Giving POR a try in two weeks for a short stay.

Ive stayed in all three and I remember CSR being the quietest and had the feel of a smaller resort. I loved walking around the water at night.
You can't go wrong with CSR on a Pop Warner weekend.

The Unofficial Guide records the east side of building 26 at POR as one of the quietest rooms at Disney. :)

I love POR, and it's the moderate I think my 60ish DM would like the best. It's beautiful. Not sure if the Pop Werner thing would be a deal killer.

You can check out the photo slideshow of every Disney resort at allears.net--click on "accomodations" at the top, then it will list all the resorts on the left side. Tons of photos!!

I have stayed at all four of the moderates and love them all for unique reasons. To me these resorts are about the theming. Room wise, location wise, they are all about equal with pros and cons in differing areas. For me, CBR is the favorite because I love the theming there. We also had nine perfect nights there in December and that was the most recent WDW stay I have had. I tend to like my most recent resort the best and then of course that changes with the next go around! For my next mod stay, I have booked CSR and can't wait to go back. Like I said, I love them all!

All of this said, I would stick with CSR because if Pop Warner is spilling over into POR and CBR and POFQ has no availability, its a no brainer in my book. And CSR is truly a lovely resort. You and your mom could schedule some time at the spa/salon that last day or just take a bus to DTD to kill time.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I truly appreciate the time you took responding to my request. I guess I will stay put at CSR. It seems to make sense to do so.
