You may be able to... however you would be holding up the line. Each pass would have a separate link so you would have to let them scan one, go back get the next pass loaded and correct on the screen, get that one scanned etc. This would take much longer then 5 people each handing one piece of paper over. Also except for very small children most airlines and the TSA want each person to hold their own pass which doesn't really work with the smart phones.
I fly often and have the ability to have my pass on my phone but never really bother. Its easier just to have it printed. If your checking any bags it doesnt' take any more time to have them print them there. Even if your not checking bags most have self help kiosks to allow you to print without waiting in the long line or using your own ink/paper.
I do have passbook but I have never used it before. Not sure if I know how to transfer themI've used my phone for boarding passes. Especially if you have Passbook it's pretty easy. No separate link or email, just put them in Passbook, bring that up when you're in line, scan one and scroll to the next and so on. Seems to be an exception to the what-seems-to-be-new (because I had never heard it until the last couple flights) hold your own pass rule.
What if you lose the paper ones?I agree, print them out. What if the phone hiccups and won't display them?
Thanks for the replies. Can I still print then out at home? That way I pay. $5 less per checked bag.

I've used my phone when I'm flying by myself, but didn't know about 'Passbook' (I assume that's an app) for flying with my family.

And if your phone dies, then you get a paper boarding pass printed at the airport. My point was crap happens. If you lose your paper boarding passes, simply reprint at home or at the airport.
Passbook is an app included on iPhones.
