You may be able to... however you would be holding up the line. Each pass would have a separate link so you would have to let them scan one, go back get the next pass loaded and correct on the screen, get that one scanned etc. This would take much longer then 5 people each handing one piece of paper over. Also except for very small children most airlines and the TSA want each person to hold their own pass which doesn't really work with the smart phones.
I fly often and have the ability to have my pass on my phone but never really bother. Its easier just to have it printed. If your checking any bags it doesnt' take any more time to have them print them there. Even if your not checking bags most have self help kiosks to allow you to print without waiting in the long line or using your own ink/paper.

I've used my phone for boarding passes. Especially if you have Passbook it's pretty easy. No separate link or email, just put them in Passbook, bring that up when you're in line, scan one and scroll to the next and so on.
Seems to be an exception to the what-seems-to-be-new (because I had never heard it until the last couple flights) hold your own pass rule.

We fly out of a relatively small airport. We have always been the first flight out by at least a good hour. Since the last time we've flown it had gotten much busier. We now have 5 flights out back to back and only 2 gates. I just want to do whichever method is most efficient.
I've put both United and Alaska boarding passes onto it; when you're choosing the mobile boarding pass there has just been a button to choose to put it onto passbook. I can't describe how to do it; when I want to do it it just seems to be spelled out. I put our Mariners baseball tickets onto it, too; the ticket site walked me through it.
It's an app that was on my iphone when I got it. Didn't use it for at least 1.5 years then we went to a Mariners game and my printer is messed up, and so I chose that option. Not sure if it's good for android phones or not.
Thanks the replies so far. Please excuse my ignorance but if I have my boarding passes and have a couple of prepaid bags to check. Where do I take my bags?
To the checkin counter at the airport. If your airport has skycaps, you can deliver them there (usually right outside the doors to the airport), but it would be customary to tip $1/bag.
It's really easy to do screen captures of the board passes on a phone and just save them in your photos. Then just scroll through your photos to show your boarding passes.
Even when you prepay to check your bags you still have to stop and check them in when you get to the airport. IMHO if there are more than 2 people in your traveling party it would be just as easy (maybe easier) to print out the boarding passes when you check your bags.
Well I figured out passbook and it seems that it will take less time than even paper passes. Just a few swipes and everyone is there. We are on delta and after I checked in there was an ""'add to passbook' on the top right.
