I have seen recommendations to bring your own bag as the one supplied by Disney is small. My question is 'how small?' Could somebody tell me the approx. dimensions so I can see whether or not to bother bringing one for my son.

I don't have dimensions handy, but I know they're plenty big enough for our group. If full, you have a hefty amount of candy. Lots of others bring larger bags or backpacks to handle it all--there is no limit.

Without the bag in front of me, I would say it's like the size of a small brown lunch bag. Or something similar to a small gift bag. You can get more than 1 bag, if you are so inclined.

I would say it's plenty big enough to get all the treats and then some. We went to the last party a couple years ago and when we walked out, they dumped like 2-4 handfuls of candy and even then, it didn't fill it up. And we already went through some of the treat lines a couple times.

I always thought they were plenty big. I visit every station once and my bag never even gets close to half full. I think I usually average about 20 pieces. I wish I had more but I would get sick off of too much candy anyway.

This is what we do, and yes, we are horrible horrible people.

We bring a small child (all the better to get candy with)
We bring a normal treat bag (Disney sells a nice sized one, Old Navy make a cute one or even a cloth one from the dollar store)
We get the plastic lunch bag sized ones that they hand to you in the front of the park.

We then proceed through park gathering candy, which we then pour into our normal sized bags. It makes it easier to carry with us. CMS are also more than willing to hand out new bags if yours is full or breaks. They are also more willing to hand candy out to people who have empty bags and small children! :cutie: We find having a "central bag" works better for our family since we also "pool" our candy.

We get a lot of candy - our whole $68+ worth. And yes, we are horrible greedy people.:rolleyes1

Not big enough for us.
They are smaller than a brown lunch bag........about 3" shorter.
We always use them and then have a bigger one to dump them in when they start to get full.

Sorry, but I am from England and we don't have brown lunch bags! So I am not much wiser.... So what size is a lunch bag then?

(But thanks for all your help anyway)

The dimensions of a generic brown lunch bag are 11.0 x 5.25 x 4.5 (inches).

What about the kids having plastic pumpkins? Would hauling those around turn into a disaster?

This your bag?

While most bags and containers are fine, please remember comfort level. I had my kids bring bags that were comfortable for both them as well as the adults to carry around for several hours and bring on rides (my children are 8 and 10 so strollers are not an option).

The bags had handles on them that were easier on the hands to carry. In addition the handles were long enough that I can hang the bag on my shoulder, like a pocketbook, as well.

Enjoy.

Between the 3-4 of us, it's PLENTY of candy. But my kids can only have one piece a day except on special occasions. We give most of it out to trick or treaters on Halloween...

We always take our backpack to the party. We keep our ToT bags in our backpack until we need them, which is at all treat locations, the curb during the parade, and when exiting the park. Makes it easier for pictures, too.

You can get plenty of candy in it, but we found that they were a bit cumbersome for the little ones to hold when they were full. We purchased the Halloween bags they sold (about $9.99 a piece), they light up and are as big a reusable grocery bag...the boys now use it for several things. It ended up being one of their favorite souvenirs! Enjoy! That party is so fun!

Those sound ideal. I think I might get one of them for him.

One warning no one seems to mention especially since international flights seem to be at stake. Disney will give you all the candy you want, BUT you have to get it home. One year we had 14 lbs of candy (in 4 of the free bags disney gave us so they are plenty big). 14 lbs put us over the luggage weight limit so I had to do a mad shuffle to get the weights balanced. It was highly comical, but the stress was not worth the value of the candy. Lesson learned. Unless you can eat a lot of candy before you get back on the plane, don't be concerned about collecting as much as you can. :rotfl2:
