MNSSHP-Tips, Tricks, Secrets newbies should know (from the 2009 party!)

We are thinking of going to MNSSHP next week when were are in WDW. DD just turned one. I know that we don't have to pay for her, but would you go with a 1yo and go on the rides seperatly and take pictures with the character or wait till she is bigger and will really enjoy it? She loves the characters and goes crazy when she sees them!

BTW, my parents went last year and the end of September and said they couldn't believe all the chocolate they were given. They had to turn it down by the end bc it was just too much. They also got card game packs.

We took our son (now 8) to the Christmas party at 9 months and the pictures are priceless. The Halloween party has more characters and in costume so if she likes the characters then go enjoy that. You can take her on all of the rides except Splash and Big Thunder anyway at MK.

1. Wait for later to get candy.
2. Go to Mickey and Minnies houses later in the evening as well....there was no wait and we got great pics with both in their halloween costumes. We waited 5 mins to see them both.

How much later in the evening?
Do you mean 9:30/10 or midnite?

We leave tomorrow night and will be doing MNSSHP next Tuesday. I'm hoping someone will know this before I drive away! :rotfl:

Is there anywhere in any of the gift shops to buy the Halloween bags?

Not that I saw. We brought out own from the Disney store at home and many people and CMs asked us where we got them from. The only bags I saw where the plastic bags being handed out at the entrance.

Thanks! We don't have a Disney store anywhere close to us, so I guess we'll do without. :goodvibes We did buy cute little canvas drawstring bags that DDs decorated for MNSSHP! I just really liked the others!

I seem to remember seeing the bags at the resorts last year. You might want to check.

PS: I see you love LOST. Me, too. :offtopic: Sorry, but I just had to send a LOST-fan hug. :) Enough said.

Back on topic, for all the chocolate lovers out there: I hear that some folks trade candy with other MNNSHP people. I find this interesting. Could it be true that some people LOVE Smarties and will trade for chocolate?

Frankly, I'm not buying into it.

First, I don't think it is safe to trade candy.

Second, how the heck to do you find people who want to trade candy? Do you walk around with a megaphone yelling, "Hey, buddy, wanna trade your melt-in-your-mouth chocolate for my suck-on-it-until-you-drop sugar-only bites?" . . . oh yeah, right!

Okay, okay, I know, I know . . . it's not all about the chocolate, it is all about the experience. (Not in my chocolate-loving Halloween world since my littlegirlhood in the 50's, but that's okay -- I'm willing to buy into it.)

. . . IF you give me a Snickers first!

This is all for fun, of course. This is such an entertaining, informative thread. Thank you, everyone for being part of this wonderful string of posts! :grouphug:

Just out of curiosity, why do you think trading candy isn't safe? I don't see how it's any different than trick-or-treating. Either way you're taking candy from strangers.

Thanks much! I'll be sure and check the Gift Shops at the Resort and MK!

BTW, Namaste!! ;)

My 13 year old DD asked me if I was going to check all her candy before she was allowed to eat it. :lmao: :rotfl: I've taught her well.

True. But at least in that case you know where the provider lives. It's easier to disappear after doing something malicious in the midst of a Disney crowd.

I would say between 10 and midnight. You will see the lines visibly shorter. You can basically walk right up.....but earlier in the night with all the babies (in strollers) and really small kids the lines are huge.

Not really. I mean, I couldn't tell you where each piece of candy came from on Halloween night. And what good does that do even if you did remember? You can get sick on their lawn? I suppose that would deter me from giving out rotten candy.

First off, what a great thread! Thank you to everyone's info and tips. My family and I can't wait until we get to WDW for our 1st MNSSHP.

So, I was looking at the map for this year's party. Based on the tips and this year's times for events, I was planning to get to the hub area around 9:00-9:15 to watch HalloWishes @ 9:30, the Villain's Mix & Mingle @ 10:05, and then the parade @ 10:30.

What does everyone think of this plan for these three big events?

Also, we are going to the party on 10/25, which is a Sunday. Do you think that it will be sold out? What will the crowd level be for a Sunday in late October? Just curious. I just can't stand the wait.

I noticed you said you can get in at 4. I called Disney after reading this and was told absolutely not because I have a dining reservation at 5 and they said I have to have a regular theme park ticket to get in for that dining reservation even if I have a ticket for the party.

I'm curious about this plan myself. We're going on the 15th and this little plan would help alot.

I have been to MNNSHP 3 times( going again this year) snd the last two years anyone with a hard ticket ti the event was allowed in at 4PM. THey give you your bracelet and bag and you go. None of the halloween events start until 7PM, but you will be alllowed in.
