We're going to our first party on 10/13 (we leave in less than 48 hours!) and I have some questions that I'm hoping all the veterans can answer:

Where is the free photo taken? Do you have a choice of backgrounds?

Is the MNSSHP ticket the only one we need or separate MK ticket? Do they shut down the park between regular hours and party hours?

Any tips/advice for attending with a 3 month old?

Finally...what's the "absolutely can't be missed" stuff? It's our first party and we're hoping to have a few hours at the park, but you never know when the baby is going to decide the party is over! :) So what should we definitely see or do early?

Thanks everybody! Anyone else going on Thursday?

We went to MNSSHP in 2003 and had a blast! We loved it.

As far as the pictures, they will have photo stations located at areas throughout the park...they will give you a special MNSSHP map that will show you were the locations are. When we went, there was no choice of background, just a cute disney one with ghosts on it, and the MNSSHP logo. I think choices of background with that many people would take just too much time. We liked the one they had!
We went to the one that is in adventureland. There are also candy stations that are located throughout the park as well....all these things will be on the map.

We went to WDW with our 16 month old, but he stayed at the hotel with dad while myself and my older kids had fun. We stayed the whole time.
Something that I loved was seeing all of the villians that they had out!! Being a DL vet, there were some there that I have never seen before! If you love pics and autographs, for older kids or for yourself, you will not want to miss these! They are out in front of the castle on and off the whole party! Also in Toon town, Mickey and his friends are in their costumes...too cute! I wish there would have been more time...

we just went to our first MNSSHP last week and had a ball. to answer your questions, yes they close the park to the general public but you can still get in because of your MNSSHP. when we went, MK was closing at 6 and the party started at 7. your ticket to MNSSHP is the only ticket that you need to get in MK for the party. that's it, no other tickets. the only place that'll be open in MK for dinner, and is worth going to overall, is LTT. we had a wonderful time there when we went. we had dinner at about 6:30ish and made it out just in time to see the parade.
the parade is a must. make sure you are there early enough, roughly about 20 minutes before the parade starts or you'll miss the headless horseman. pretty cool to see him galloping through MK. for our experience there, the lines were very very short. the things that we did i wouldn't recommend for a 3 month old. we did stitch's great escape, space mountain, and big thunder mountain. you wouldn't want your 3 month old on those rides. we did go on cinderella's carousel, which was fun. they have a new playground for kids, called Pooh's Playful Spot. when we were getting on line to go on the carousel, piglet was heading towards the playful spot. a few minutes later, eeyore was on his way, too. i think character greetings are a fun thing to do with your 3 month old.

We have been to afew parties (both MNSSHP and MVMCP) you can actually enter the MK around 4pm with just your party tix; they will give yo a wristband.

We have found that the extra party stuff (special parade and fireworks, storytelling, dance parties-DS loves this, characters dressed in special costumes, and the way the park is decorated) is the stuff not to miss. We do mix in some rides, but we have been many times and will go again, so we try to enjoy the extra magic.

I went to the party on the 7th.

We (2 adults) got there around 4pm and entered on the party ticket. We did ride some things since the lines were becoming short. In between 6 and 7, we checked out Pecos Bill Cafe, but decided to eat at Cosmic Ray's. At Cosmic Rays they were having Stitch's Cosmic Dance Party. Don't miss the parade. You can catch it at 8 or 10. The fireworks are good as well and they start at 9:15. There are several trick or treat stations around the park. We took our picture in Liberty Square at The Hall of Presidents, I believe. We did this first thing and the line moved fast. I also saw a photo station in Tomorrowland.

I had a good, no GREAT time!!!!

A hidden surprise for us and a don't miss activity was the treat station set up on the walkway between Toon Town & Tomorrowland, the one that is closest to the train tracks. It is an Alice in Wonderland Theme, a different character at each treat bin and decorated along the walkway in the Alice theme. It was well lit for photo ops. We discovered it late in the evening and there was not a single other person on the walkway but us and the characters!

Keep your eyes open and your camera ready for surprise enhancements all over the park.

Good advice given here! Go as early as they will let you in (4 pm). They closed everything except for Adventureland/Frontierland. We have small kids, so we went to Fantasyland after an early dinner at LTT(4:10), around 5 pm. As people began to leave, we walked onto everything in FL, including Dumbo. We then moved around to HM and closed that as well. We did pics in Hall of Presidents. Line was out the door but moved quickly. They had three stations set up. All the backgrounds looked the same - purple/black w/ some theming on them. Of course, I was trying to move quickly w/DS and DD and didn't pay THAT much attention to the other two backgrounds.

Have fun!!!

We are going the same night! Can't wait! You are going to have a blast. Below are the photos of our costumes. Please come say hi, if you see us!

Thanks for all the answers and great ideas! So glad to hear we can enter the park at 4pm - is it unusual to see people in costume that early?

There weren't too many others in costume at that point. DD was dressed as Dorothy and DS was a train engineer (denim overalls, hat sometimes on, sometimes off, so he didn't stand out so much). She wasn't at all phased by it. We entered around 3:45 on our regular passes for a 4:10 LTT ADR. Many people in LTT were dressed up, so it was no big deal by then. As an adult I personally would have felt a tad uncomfortable going into the park with no one else dressed. Remember so many kids are wearing princess dresses on a daily basis anyway that it's not so uncommon.

I did laugh at the comment I overheard some one say about DD -- "Dorothy isn't Disney." DUH! MNSSHP doesn't require DISNEY costumes you fool! No, I didn't say that out loud!
