MNSSHP parade-why did they water it down?

Wow, after going to MNSSHP for last 7 years, I can't believe how lame they made the parade! :earseek: We used to love the music and the villian theme, but now the music is made more "friendly" and the villians toned down. All four of us DW, DS, DD, left it shaking our heads.
Perhaps they got too many complaints from parents that their kids were scared? Yikes, after reading the goofy posts about kids being scared on dark rides, and now this, should we abolish anything that might resemble a scare in our kids lives?!? :confused3
Jeepers, if they get scared, don't change the ride/parade, don't take your kid!
Hellooo???
Eh, maybe I'm too old fashioned...

I am sure it was to make it more child friendly.

I personally do not observe/celebrate/acknowledge halloween, but I could not image that any parade at Disney would be bad enough to scare children.

I thought this year's parade was so much better than last year. DD and I both loved the Haunted Mansion theme. All of the villians were there. I'm not sure what you mean by watering it down.

Gee, that seemed unnecessary. A little too much judging there.

Well do DO call it Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party! :confused3

How has the parade changed? This was the first time we didn't do MNSSHP in 6 years.

hi
don't even go there! i had a whole thread of flames when i suggested people shouldn't take children if it was not approriate!! :rolleyes1

It has to be a little scarey, it is Halloween after all. We were there 3 years ago and then just seen the parade on Sept. 30, I'm sorry but I don't remember huge differences.

But remember it is called, Mickeys Not So Scarey Halloween Parade, if you want more scarey , there is always Universal and Busch Gardens.

ITA about the new parade OP!! I thought the new one was not as good as the previous one!!

Not sure the reasons why it was changed but we prefer the old song and some of the old, missinng floats. I missed Cruella and her dogs float. :( and we missed the old hags' float where she's making the potion. I also missed Hadies from Hercules' float with Megara on the back. I also missed the music although some of it was in the villian show. I also wasn't crazy about the Goofy candy advertizing! At least they kept the Haunted Mansion float and the grave diggers!!

What a bummer. Thankfully, I have the old parade on videotape so I can see it again, whenever I want to. I just wish they put the old music on CD before they changed it. :(

Here's last year's parade if you want to compare. It wasn't very scary at all; just different, and IMHO a little better.

I agree the parade was good, but lacked the luster of other years. Our son came away asking why his favorite characters were not in the parade (Buzz, Woody , Monsters Inc, etc).

On the flip side we were able to obtain front row seats in front of the castle at 9:45 a few weeks ago.

We thought the parade this year was bad compared to the last 5 years. The parade was always our favorite part of MNSSHP. Not anymore. I never thought any of the parades were scary but this one was just plain boring. Not nearly as creative and much shorter then the other years. We were very disappointed in all the changes to MNSSHP this year.

I said the exact same things after watching the parade Friday night! The Goofy advertising float at the end was the worst, they might as well put up a neon sign that said visit our store at DTD. My DD is a huge Megara fan and we were really disappointed that she wasn't in the parade, especially since they already took her out of the MGM one too. :( Having Pain and Panic and no Hades & Meg was silly.

BEATTYFAMILY....Thanks for sharing your parade video. That was fun to watch. We went to this year's MNSSHP a few weeks ago....you're right, compared to last year's parade, this year's was pretty lame!

:wave2: You are very welcome...I thought it would be good to share it with those who've only seen this year's so they can compare them!!

Although I liked a couple of things from this year (the new song), I loved last year's and years gone by much more.

We have been going to MNSSHP for the last several years, went 2 times last year. We also walked away thinking the night wasn't as good as years before and questioning if we will do it next year. Sea World has a halloween night that we've never been to and may just try it next year. I don't think it needs to be anything scary, not going to Universal, just keeping with the holiday would be nice though.

Yes, the advertisement at the end of the parade was very gawdy in my opinion. We all know we can buy candy at the candy store on Main Street as well as Goofys at DT but do we need advertisement in the parade. I don't think so.

This does not surprise me. Disney did this years ago at DL after their first year of MNSSHP. They had the BEST Jungle cruise remake where you got into the boat with flash lights and played "find Simba".

There was Simba on a spear, Simba in the crocs mouth, Simbas head with the shrunken heads, Simba in the trees. It was Hilarious. So of course, the next year it went away. I mean there should be a little scary in a halloween party. Not Knotts Berry Farm or Universal scary but a little scary. You are appealing to everyone, not just to kids.

I personally don't go to the "adult" haunted houses because I don't like the major scary. I don't like people chasing you with chainsaws and jumping out at you. I do like the villians parade and the headless horseman at WDW and listening to them reading Sleepy Hollow before the parade.

It's a shame if they pull things because a few kids may be freaked out by it. OK, hands everyone - how many of you adults out there were freaked out by the following as kids:

a) The old hag witch in Snow White
b) Bambis mother getting shot
c) (and my personal favorite) the banshee in Darby O Gill and the Little People

I think we all lived and avoided therapy. Bottom line, there are scares in Disney movies. There are scares in the original fairy tales. More disturbing scares I may add since they were suppose to be morality plays.

I personally find pushing candy to kids that are having issues with eating healthy in this day and age MUCH more scary than Hades on a float!

This was our first year at the MNSSHP! We enjoyed it. I was told by a CM that they rolled out half of the new parade, and next year would roll out the other half next year. They only did half this year due to HALLOWISHES!!

Now you all have my curiousity peaked! This was the first year we have missed MNSSHP in 3 years. Does anyone have the parade from this year so we can compare?

Those of you who asked what the old parade was like. I don't have any videos, just great memories. The old theme song had a real great "umpa-umpa-umpa" beat with an eerie horn melody. This year's song took some of the beat but made it more "fun", like it could be on Sesame Street. The old parade was more Disney villian themed, there was one float with the monster from Fantasia, where "Night on Bald Mountain" plays. Really good. Then a float with the villians singing how this is their night. Old parade had the Haunted Mansion with the undertakers, Mickey and friends only show up at the end, with a barn dance theme. Not too scary, but not cutsie either. Hope that helps.
