Hey all - we're doing the party for the 1st time this year - on 10/18.

My DS wants to be spiderman, but the superhero costumes I've seen look like they might be hot for Florida. What have your experiences been??

Thanks!

I've appreciated wearing long sleeves for MNSSHP. It get's cool out after the sun goes down. Nothing heavy needed. If I remember correctly it was in the mid to low 60's in the evenings.

We've dozen the party 3x, all in late October. It was very hot. My kids wore typical northern Halloween costumes the first year ( we were new FL transplants) and took them off in the first hour. The other years, we stuck with short sleeves and light clothing.

It was not in the 60s the times we went, more like mid 70s and a bit humid.

My dh went as Jack Sparrow one year in mid October, and on the bus ride out (completely soaked with sweat) swore he would be Tarzan the following year, in a loincloth, because he was miserable!

I have gone to the parties in both September and October..October can still be pretty hot and humid, even at night.Sometimes you are comfortable in long sleeves ,sometimes you aren't.Most times even DD bagged the idea of a cstume and went with a Halloween themed tshirt

I've only done once in FL and at the time DD3 was Alice - she was fine. But DD1 was Cheshire Cat and the material was gross - she was a sweaty mess :rotfl:

The one year we brought costumes with it was way too hot to wear them. We have been to other Halloween parties that have been much cooler.

Every time i go to MNSSHP its hot and last year it was hot and it happened to rain almost all night long. My friends always wear typical halloween costumes and they are always hot and gross:rotfl2:. I dont wear halloween costumes but I tend to put something together things at the last minute I tend to wear a black dress and maybe an ear hat or a tiara and i say i'm dressed for halloween. needless to say im a lot more comfortable in my dress and ear hat than my friends are in full blown halloween costumes:thumbsup2

i always suggest halloween t-shirts instead of costumes because you can never predict florida weather

We were there on Halloween night and my poor son was sweating to death in his Buzz costume!!!

We were there 9/27/11 and it was sweltering! DD 8 was in a Pocohontas costume, she was fine. DS 3 was in Buzz costume for 1 hour (he begged to put it on.) I managed to get a picture before I had to take DS's costume off but it was alot of work fo a pic! I also managed to lose my wallet while rummaging through my backpack for DS's clothes, after many tears (mine) three hours asking CMs in stores if anyone turned in a Purple Sketch Mickey wristlet, then begging them to call City Hall (out of 5 only 1 would, said they weren't allowed-I had a large brace on my ankle, torn ligament-told me it could take hours for wallet to make it to City Hall- cut me some slack) and schlepping us all from Frontierland to City Hall, someone had miraculously turned in my wallet. Unfortunately they didn't leave their name, so I had no way to thank them. I also dropped and broke my camera and video camera that trip...good times! To sum it up, lol...I would suggest costumes only if they are lightweight and short-sleeved. A Superhero "costume" t-shirt would work!:sunny:

I wore fun Halloween tights to a late Sept party with a jean skirt and a "happy Halloween" tshirt and I was really hot. This year we are doing pirates because we can wear normal-ish clothes and be cool and comfortable. :)

I was concerned about this too and asked a similar question in the past... I have decided, if you want to DO IT!!! Were going allll out this year. I was worried about my jacket, so today here in AZ at 7am it was 87 degrees and 58 percent humidity... VERY much like FL weather. SOOOO I tested how hot I would be. I took the dog for a walk in my coat! I was fine. Just sayin'.

I'm planing on going as Belle with a tea leight dress and low heeled shoes as far as the heat for WDW i'm expreincing it right now. since belle's dress is off the shoulder i think i will be okay if the weather gets hot

It really also depends on when you go. September and early October will be a whole lot warmer than late October. Last year we had an unusually cool Halloween- it was in the 60's LOL! That being said, my kids have done Spooktacular (trick-or-treating at our zoo) in "typical Halloween costumes" and been fine. Buntings for babies are way too hot, but superhero costumes are doable. I would get a spiderman t-shirt to wear underneath so if he gets too warm he can still be in character:thumbsup2 and remember - no masks

And how long have you lived in AZ? If I did that, I would pass out within an hour.

OP, we went in September and it was HOT and we were all very hot. We went with cousins who have lived in FL for ages, and their kids who are from FL, and everyone was a sticky mess. DS went as a "man in black" in long pants and a black dress shirt and had sweat through it inside an hour. One of the kid-cousins who is from FL was Harry Potter with a cheapie Hogwarts robe, and even HE was drenched by the end of the evening. Hot hot hot!

Those store-bought nylon costumes are really difficult; if you have cool Fall temperatures then you have to wear something under them or you freeze, but if it's warm, then they are wanting out of the costume in an hour!

Hmmmm. Any suggestions for a lightweight costume for a 5yo boy?

last year we went mid sept as flynn rapunzel and our son as pascal. and yes, were they heavy costumes? yes. was i sweaty? no. if they are breathable and not polyester you're fine. i had a 5 ft wig and everything and i was fine. dh's vest was wool inside suede for the vest and he said he was comfy and he gets hot quickly. ds was a bit sweaty, but he also was running around hopped up on all that sugar!

you dont WANT to know what my son plans on wearing this halloween. you will be sweating just thinking about it. (hamish from brave... as in a bear. like a bear in a cotton velour suit and hat that is BLACK!!!) and i will just be in another 20 layer costume :)

so really, go with what you want, and pick natural fibers if you go with a costume

You gotta tough it out for the sake of a killer costume! We all survived early/mid October last year just fine...it was rainy though which I think helped lower temps but it made it more sauna-like.
I figure if the character performers can do it, so can we. And we take Ac breaks...watch Philharmagic, go to the dance party in the Diamond Horseshoe...there are places to cool down a bit. Once the sun went down it wasn't bad.

I had 3 Harry Potters the year we did it. The boys were 7, 5 and 3. Harry Potter was easy, cape, glasses, and wand. When they wanted to take the stuff off, all fit in a small backpack.

I can't say the same for our friends who had a full spiderman and superman costumes, the kind with the fake muscles. It took 2 parents to get the kids in them, took 20 min. per kid (although it felt like an hour), and 30 minutes later, had to take them out of them. I while I was :lmao:, our friends were not.
