We flew home out of MCO on Saturday morning and ALL food had to come out of all carry-on baggage and go through the scanner in a tray. I had my toddler's snacks (nothing liquid or even close to liquid- granola bar, freeze dried fruit, crackers) in a large ziplock bag that I placed in the tray for scanning. They opened the ziplock bag and dumped the snacks out.
I have previously seen backups at TSA where they were sorting through all of the candy as well. If the candy contains any liquid (including peanut butter) you can be asked to throw it out, or it can be subject to further screening. This can all change from day to day or by the minute- TSA is not known for consistency.
