MNSSHP 2014: What's YOUR Costume?

Last year we went as Wreck-It-Ralph and Vanellope, which was so much fun. I honestly kind of want to go as that again. See the photo below.

Wow. Wow. Wow. I was thinking Wreck-it-Ralph, but I saw some costumes on google and I thought it didn't quite work. But your costumes absolutely killed it.

To me the most fun costume is when it looks like somewhat plausible apparel, while still capturing the essence of the character. (That's why I'm drawn to things like Phineas and Ferb characters, since they wear simple, real clothes.) But your Vanellope looks way better than what I thought was even possible. Phenomenal. Thanks for sharing the picture.

Two years ago we were a group of 8 and we were Snow White and the 7 dwarfs. The rest if us simply had tees with our dwarf name, a mismatched hat and beards ( except for a Dopey). This time we are traveling with friends so 9 total and here are our thoughts :

101 Dalmatians - easy
Charlie Brown and friends
Alice characters

We just like to be comfortable.

Thank you so much! I got all the elements and had to pull it together myself!

Hair - I got a ponytail clip on and a bang clip on from eBay. My hair is light brown, so I used black temporary dye on the in-between section. For the candy in Vanellope's hair (here and here) I bought some beads in various candy shapes off of eBay. I later got some fun plastic beads from Michael's. I used e600 glue to glue these to bobby pins. They stayed put pretty much perfectly all night. The one or two in my bangs slipped some, but that was it.

For her Twizzler hair tie, I got some red braided cord off eBay. I twisted two pieces together and used that as my hair tie.

Sweatshirt - I used a zip up shirt in case it was hot in Florida. I got this one from Amazon. I swapped the strings out with pink shoelaces. I used pink ribbon to sew the lines on the pockets. If I were doing this again, I'd use the same pink shoe laces.

Skirt - I had to make this one myself. I used this tutorial. The skirt is supposed to look like Reese's wrappers, so I went for something shiny. You could likely buy one easily!

Tights - These were the hardest part. I tried painting them with fabric paint - they were too stiff. I tried gluing on ribbon - it fell off. These are greenish tights I got off eBay and then, after putting them on, used white and purple duct tape to make the stripes. Easy enough.

Thanks again for the compliments. Maybe this post will inspire someone to do their own Vanellope outfit.

I can't recall quite how many times I've been to MNSSHP. I believe since 2009. DH started joining me once we moved to Florida. Last year we went as Wreck-It-Ralph and Vanellope, which was so much fun. I honestly kind of want to go as that again. See the photo below. This year I think I'm going as Jem of Jem and the Holograms. I got a pink wrap dress for super cheap from Old Navy. The pink wig was very inexpensive on eBay. It should be fun.

I loved Jem when I was a kid! I had pink and blonde hair because of her! Haha can't wait to see your pictures.

This will be the 4th MNSSHP my husband & I have gone to. We absolutely love it. Like other have said we were a lil hesitant to get too dressed up the first year, so we just wore pirate accessories with our Mickey pirate ears. But each year we have gotten more into it. We always go early to mid September so it has always been hot so you have to plan accordingly. It's always fun to see peoples reactions when we leave our resort all dressed up, because some people have no clue about the party. We love to take pictures with other guests who have awesome costumes too. Looks like we gotta start planning for this year....

Last year I was a dalmation, and my DD was Peter Pan. This year I'm going to be a fairy, probably Vidia since Purple is my favorite color.

I haven't come up with an idea yet for this year...we usually do a t-shirt based costume because it's so darned hot! I might just cop out and do some Haunted Mansion themed shirts and some ghostly makeup.

I saw a "sexy" Ursula costume that I would love to wear minus the heals and with tights to not be inappropriate. ;-) It's a black dress with the tentacles. Super cute.

I'm going as a Rockford Peach from one of my favorite movies, A League of Their Own. My SO is going as Coach Jimmy Dugan. :) Costumes from ebay.

My DS10 hasn't decided what he wants to be yet. We'll probably wait til the Halloween costumes start coming out. I'm not crafty and I don't make things.

I thought we were going to be on the Frozen train along with a hundred other people, but I think my DD has moved on! She was watching Alice in Wonderland the other day and declared that that's who she wants to be for Halloween. Then she said her baby sister should be the Cheshire Cat, Mama the Mad Hatter, and Mommy (me) should be the Queen of Hearts. I wanted to make the baby the Queen but she insists the Queen has to be big. So... any ideas for a Disney-bounding type Queen of Hearts? I don't want to do a full costume, too pricey and too hot.

This will be our first MNSSHP! We're going to the first one and decided we would definitely do a coordinating theme.
Well, after getting into arguments about which season Doctor Who everyone was going to be... we changed the theme to "Before the Ball".

DH and I - Kiss the Girl Ariel and Eric
DD15 - Briar Rose
DD10 - Snow White in Rags (this will be a fun one because it's not widely recognized)
DS8 - Street Rat Aladdin
DS6 - Flynn Rider, smoulder and all

So excited!!

If I was able to go, I would love to go as a female Captain Hook, as he is my favourite character.

Either Captain hook or Merida :)

Medusa because of the cool and comfortable dress. Also, if I try hard enough and skip the snake headpiece, I might pass for Meg from Hercules!

I was going to do a disneybounding like snow white.. now I might do maleficant.
I found some Maleficant Mickey ears, will wear those with black capris, a dark purple tank and a black cardigan. will do purple eyeshadow and nails.

best was a found a small black crow I will somehow pin to my shoulder.

This will be our first time attending MNSSHP !!! We are myself, my husband and our 10 year old son. Any pointers? Any tips? What time should we get to MK? Where is the best places to be not to miss anything? I heard something about the headless Horseman? Are the rides open? We will be there on opening night, September 1. Thanks in advance for all the advice
