Wow. Wow. Wow. I was thinking Wreck-it-Ralph, but I saw some costumes on google and I thought it didn't quite work. But your costumes absolutely killed it.
To me the most fun costume is when it looks like somewhat plausible apparel, while still capturing the essence of the character. (That's why I'm drawn to things like Phineas and Ferb characters, since they wear simple, real clothes.) But your Vanellope looks way better than what I thought was even possible. Phenomenal. Thanks for sharing the picture.
Thank you so much! I got all the elements and had to pull it together myself!
Hair - I got a ponytail clip on and a bang clip on from eBay. My hair is light brown, so I used black temporary dye on the in-between section. For the candy in Vanellope's hair (
here and
here) I bought some beads in various candy shapes off of eBay. I later got some fun plastic beads from Michael's. I used e600 glue to glue these to bobby pins. They stayed put pretty much perfectly all night. The one or two in my bangs slipped some, but that was it.
For her Twizzler hair tie, I got some red braided cord off eBay. I twisted two pieces together and used that as my hair tie.
Sweatshirt - I used a zip up shirt in case it was hot in Florida.
I got this one from Amazon. I swapped the strings out with pink shoelaces. I used pink ribbon to sew the lines on the pockets. If I were doing this again, I'd use the same pink shoe laces.
Skirt - I had to make this one myself.
I used this tutorial. The skirt is supposed to look like Reese's wrappers, so I went for something shiny. You could likely buy one easily!
Tights - These were the hardest part. I tried painting them with fabric paint - they were too stiff. I tried gluing on ribbon - it fell off. These are greenish tights I got off eBay and then, after putting them on, used white and purple duct tape to make the stripes. Easy enough.
Thanks again for the compliments. Maybe this post will inspire someone to do their own Vanellope outfit.
