MNSSHP 2014: What's YOUR Costume?

We plan to attend the Oct. 31st party. It will be me, my daughter who is 10, and my sister. We have never done the party before so we are very excited and now we need to think of costumes. I am letting DD figure out what she wants to be first and then my sister and I will match somehow. If DD has her Cruella Di'Ville custome still she will most likely want to be that and then we can be dalmation dogs. She was Venellope last year so who knows she may want to be that as well. My DD has never been into the princesses she loves the not so popular characters like stitch. :confused3

We are going as The Avengers...

DH: Thor
Me: Black Widow
DS: Iron Man
DD: Captain America

:goodvibes

Awesome Costume set.

I'm heading there is Marvel attire as well. Going as Brotherhood Rogue, and hoping its not as hot as last year was.

Hubs and I are going haunted mansion themed. I am making a purple shirt with the hitchhiking ghosts on it and a fabric/tulle tutu in black and gray to seem ghostly. Hubs is wearing a black tee with singing ghost busts. Not sure if we'll do anything to his shorts or if he'll just wear his gray ones.

This is fun - love how excited everyone gets!
This trip is a surprise for my kids - I'm packing for 6 of us and going end of September.
Figuring it'll be hot still my plan is to have my 3
DD's (ages 6-10) go as cheerleaders and my little DS(2 yrs) as football player (just jersey /shorts) - DH and I will either wear supporting team shirts or our respective Halloween shirts.
Tough question is what team?!
I'm a Steelers fan, DH is a 49ers guy....may go the college route and pick Pitt (DH is alum) and DH Isnt a fan of my alma mater ! Haha!

What days were you there? The thought of freezing or being way to hot is making me stress on costumes.

We were there from the 27th of October to the 1st of November. I believe we attended the 29th as our party night. It was either that, or the 30th. I can't remember which off the top of my head! I had sewn together a rough version of the Evil Queen Regina, from Once Upon a Time, but my costume wasn't completed in time for the party, so it looked more like an elegant Sally gown when all was said and done. It was a sleeveless dress. I was nearly shivering all night long! I'm hoping it'll be warmer this year, only because my female Hades attire is going to be a sleeveless dress again, and I'd hate to go through all the trouble to get dressed only to shiver all night.

DH and I are going to dress up as young Carl and Ellie from Up. We figured it would be easy, affordable, and comfortable! We aren't 100% sure what date we are going yet, but we know we are going for sure!!

Since my son and I are flying in that day, and since I am having to pack for 6 nights at DWD and then a 4 night cruise, we were just thinking to just wear Halloween t-shirts, with jeans. His fav is one that says 'Normal people scare me', and my fav is one that says 'Instant pirate, just add rum', I know that's not very costume-y but with the packing issue, I think that's what we'll do. Or maybe, we have Thing One and Thing Two shirts and blue wigs. I didn't know if that would be ok in Disney though. What do you think?

We are planning to go on September 9, and I fully expect it to be HOT. I think I'm going to dress my girls in halloween themed pettiskirts and tanks while the rest of us wear halloween shirts. I want us to be festive, but I know in the moment we'll want to be comfortable!

pooh characters- I have golden yellow capris and red polo and ears (pooh), my dh is wearing blue shorts, yellow polo and red tennis shoes (Christopher Robbins), my dd is wearing black & Orange with ears, tail (tigger) and granddaughters will be eyeore and piglet with tees, shorts and tutus and ears.

I am very inspired! We are going to our first-ever MNSSHP this year in late September and all I can think of is that I don't want to be dressed up in the heat. This idea of normal clothes in the right colors with a few accessories is TOTALLY up my alley!!!

I desperately want to coordinate costumes with my family, but ODS will be the pickiest about his costume. He changed his mind no less than 8 times last Halloween, so I have a feeling I'll have to wait a long time before asking him what he wants to be, then go off of whatever he chooses. If he had to pick now he'd say a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, but I'm hoping I can sway him towards a Disney character!

We'll be going in September, so heat is also an issue... I wish I had ideas!

Party: 10/05
DH: don't know if he's dressing up
Me: I'm thinking Mickey (black, shirt, red skirt with yellow buttons, black tights, yellow shoes, white gloves, and Mickey ears with Josie Mouse on the back) or I may go with the 50's Poodle skirt look. I wanted to do that for Halloween before we changed our dates. I think I may feel weird not being in a "Disney" costume and I LOVE MICKEY!!!!!
DD 9: Princess Tiana
DD 7: Ariel (mermaid)
DS 6: Jake, but this might change
DS 6: Wizard (doesn't want to do Sorcerer Mickey)
DS 5: Jake, but this might change

We (my husband and I) did our first MNSSHP a few years ago and we were nervous about being two adults walking around in costumes in MK, so we only wore bits of a costume with our regular clothes. And then we saw what everyone else was wearing, and realized how silly it was to worry about dressing up in a costume for a Halloween party in MK!

So this year we decided to go all out. But comfortable shoes are a must. So we are going as Antony and Cleopatra, because we can wear sandals with those costumes!

My wife and I always talk about how much we remind ourselves of Carl and Ellie. Now we get to dress the part.

I am finally going to get the family (DH, DS 7 and DS 5) a set of Halloween colored tie-dye Mickey shirts from etsy for all of us to wear.
I've always wanted to wear those and I love seeing other families wearing them around the park.

I'd like to accessorize my shirt with a Halloween tutu- I have no idea where to get an adult size tutu but I want one!

I'm doing a 50's theme with poodle skirt. But, I have Minnie ears I'm going to wear with it. Shame I can't have a skirt with Pluto on it, though. I may also do black tights with it, but not sure yet. Kinds depends on the weather that night.

O.K., so what do you think of my ideas?

DH, myself, DD(5)...

DH - Robin Hood, Myself - Evil Queen and DD is Snow White...
*Yeah, DH and I love Once that much!

Or...

DD - Zarina - the Pirate Fairy (from Tinkerbell movie)
DH - Peter Pan? - In his Robin Hood shirt?
Me - Tinkerbell?

This is DH's Robin Hood costume...

Still working on others... party is Friday 09/19 for us, (our last day before we check out and go home late Saturday

We all have appointments at Pirates League... I thought the makeup would be the kicker to the costumes!

Your probly gonna be hot if you use the standard gloves it comes with, I went in gloves and a layered outfit during early october and it was pretty hot (86 at midnight). Also for the band they put on to let you in it has to be visible on your wrist, otherwise awesome costume idea!

I just booked our party tickets today so Ive been thinking about it all day :rotfl:

I always make DD7's Halloween costumes, so Im trying to decide if I should try to steer her in a Disney theme so I can get two uses out of the costume or just make a special one for Disney. I am surprising her with this trip so it will be really hard to decide without her input! Maybe the DIS can help me choose!

I was thinking of doing an Olaf inspired white tutu snowman outfit for DD7 and a Sven (Reindeer) inspired brown tank/shorts plus antlers option for me

OR

A green tulle dress in a Tinkerbell shape for DD (maybe with wings, depends on packing space) and a black tank/long green skirt seashell necklace Mermaid inspired ensemble for me.

I want us to sort of a match a movie theme but I don't want to go all out on my costume. Her's will be more 'all out" and mine more subtle.

Thoughts, ideas?

They are super easy and quick to make. Google no sew tutu. We get rolls of tulle on sale at craft store or with coupons. We use 2-3 colors. Measure, cut and tie, very simple to do. Pm me if you have questions.
