Mmmmmmm....5 Nights with Shameless Pics! *Updated with California Grill!

Great review! I like how you don't keep saying, "This was good, and so was this." I think your adjective choice gives a clearer picture. Hehe, I teach English Language Arts to middle school students so I'm always trying to get them to break away from redundancy and "boring" adjectives!

Also, thanks for the detail! I read about so many people loving the zebra domes, but I never actually knew what it was! Definitely looking forward to more! :goodvibes

So now the pressure is on! I am being read by an English teacher! It seems that in my professional life, I am frequently encountering colleagues and supervisors who value grammar and clear, concise language. I write lengthy, professional reports so this is a fun chance to be a bit more creative!

Having just read Joie's start to her review of Victoria and Albert, I hesitate to continue my discussion of such mundane meals. But, alas, all meals cannot be the chef's table of V&A, so we must carefully consider the benefits of our other dining options.

We enjoyed breakfast in the Kilimanjaro Club lounge on the first three mornings of our trip. Taking advantage of this club level perk provided us with some savings, prevented us from overeating at breakfast, and helped us move swiftly to the parks. The breakfast options did not vary.

Cold cereal, apples and bananas:

DS5 was very happy to have fruit loops and a steady supply of dark red apples (his favorite type). He especially began seeking out apples toward the end of our trip- anybody care to guess why?

Next is the hot oatmeal and hot, lightly sweetened quinoa. They displayed the raw grains in front of each. Brown sugar was available. I enjoyed a bowl of quinoa each morning with some fresh blueberries. Here are the hot items:

There was a nice selection of fresh fruit including strawberries, blueberries, and cut up melons:

The pastry selection was plentiful. Bagels, croissants, and pastries. I particularly enjoyed the mini chocolate croissants- crispy and chocolatey. There was one toaster available. DD enjoyed a bagel with cream cheese which she sometimes finished on the way to the bus:

Finally, the cappucino machine, coffee makers, and flavored syrups:

After reading a tip on the DIS, I used the steamed milk from the capuccino maker to mix up some hot chocolate for my kids. That was a nice treat for them on the morning of our sunrise safari when we were up in the lounge before 7am but wouldn't have breakfast until later in the morning.

Oops, I somehow posted the breakfast review a second time, so this post is a deletion of that duplicate. Is there any way to make a post completely disappear? Hope you all are enjoying the reviews.

How great to see the photos of club lounge selections specifically...I neglected to take similar shots at WL.

We used the breakfast options the same way--DH and DD grabbed little muffins and juice each morning to take the edge off. I'm jealous AKL had quinoa, love it, WL had oatmeal only.

How smart of you to make your kids hot chocolate with capp. machine steamed milk...that didn't even occur to me and DD would have loved it!

Keep these fantastic reports coming! :thumbsup2

Haha, no pressure! Technically anything is better than reading some of the paragraphs my 6th grade class puts together ... fragments galore! AGH!

I actually really enjoy the "mundane" meals! Personally, I have to be in the mood to read a review about a place like V&A because I know I'll never get there myself, but the club lounge breakfast definitely draw me in! Hehe.

Never mind... now that I posted this, her post showed up! Still strange but all is well.

I got an email that Rachel posted a response on this thread, but when I come to the board, her post is not showing up. RachelNinja, did you delete it or is something strange happening? Can anyone else read it?

By tomorrow, I should be posting my 4th grade daughter's review of Boma. We'll see what you think!

Good point. Joie is extraordinarily fortunate to have dined at V& A at 30. You know that Joie right????

The quinoa was truly a nice option. It kept me satsified all morning- nice protein source. I have made it often for dinner but never for breakfast, but I plan to start!

What a great report! So much detail and so many pictures. LOVE it! Would you mind sharing the recipe for the coconut chicken soup you liked so much? And I have no idea what the secret unnamed ingredient is? :confused3 Nor do I know why DS was craving apples? Don't keep us in suspense! The CL set up looks awesome!!

Now I'm off to check out your "regular" TR! :)

Great reports so far. Joining in for the rest.

Thanks for reading!

Looking forward to more, enjoying both reports!!

No other guesses on why DS wanted to eat apples??

Here is the recipe I found on allears.net for Coconut Curry Chicken Stew. I forgot the jalapenos which I didn't miss too much. DH said he thought it needed more curry but maybe he would have liked it better with the jalapenos. I froze some of it, so at some point I will be able to tell you how it held up after freezing. The secret ingredient is honey! It definitely changes the flavor. Taste it before and adding the honey. The honey seems to round out the flavor and adds another layer of flavor that doesn't call out "honey". I also pulled a lot of the chicken meat off the bone after it was done cooking. I didn't remember encountering bones at Boma and thought it would be easier to eat that way. I meant to take a picture of the stew after I prepared it, but I forgot.

Ingredients:

1 chicken, whole - cut in eight
8 ounces onions, diced chunky
8 ounces red bell peppers, diced chunky
2 jalapeno peppers, sliced
8 ounces potatoes, diced chunky
8 ounce diced tomatoes, drained
8 ounces coconut milk
3 tablespoons curry powder, toasted
1 quart chicken stock
5 ounces honey
4 ounces oil
½ cup cilantro, chopped
To taste cayenne pepper (adjust/add slowly)
To taste salt and pepper
Roux (3 ounces butter and 3 ounces flour)

Method:

Sprinkle chicken with salt, pepper, and 1 tablespoon curry powder. Sear chicken in the skillet until golden brown and ¾ done. Set aside.

Melt butter and stir in flour to make a roux and set aside.

Heat chicken stock, curry powder, coconut milk and roux. Let simmer until thickened.

Add the vegetables (except the cilantro) and seared chicken. Cook until chicken is done.

Add honey and cayenne pepper. Adjust seasoning. Garnish with cilantro.

Minnie has been writing a trip report with me. She prepared a fairly detailed summary of Boma from her point of view. (Who says a trip to Disney can't be educational?) I thought you might enjoy reading what a 9 year old with a pretty curious palate thought of her dinner:

After visiting our room, we went downstairs to the restaurant, Boma. We sat down, ordered our drinks (I had lemonade.), and headed towards the buffet. I started with a Carrot-Ginger soup which was a little sweet, (but not too sweet)and tasted as if it was meant for dessert. It was fabulous! With it I had salad with mango vinaigrette, pineapple, cantaloupe, and honeydew. The fruits were all very fresh.

My second helping of food consisted of Coconut Curry Stew (AWESOME!) and flatbread. The stew is delicious! It has a little spice towards the back of your throat at the end though. I f you love curry, then this is definitely for you.

Then it was off to dessert. I had Coco Mi Su. It is like white chocolate mousse. I also had regular chocolate mousse. I think it has a bit of a bitter taste. This may be because of the dark chocolate used or because of the liquor in the mousse. Next, I had a zebra dome. It is a soft white chocolate dome drizzled in milk chocolate and filled with chocolate mousse. It also has a round piece of plain, white cake on the bottom. The pineapple upside-down cake was nothing to be excited about. It is good, but not fabulous. The warm banana pudding is fabulous. It is bread pudding made with banana bread. And rounding up the desserts is the chocolate chip cookie. It’s not JUST a chocolate chip cookie though. It is soft and chewy and cooked just perfectly. So don’t pass by the cookies when you’re looking for a good dessert.

Yes! I know how fortunate I am, and am very thankful. :goodvibes

That meal really was a big celebration for us...I had just turned 30, I also just finished my master's degree (a few weeks before our trip) that I have been working towards for 6 years while also working full-time and raising a daughter. AND, DH just had an important promotion at work, so, we felt a big celebration was in order. :upsidedow

Can't wait to keep reading more. ;)
