Mmmmmm..Sanders Hot Fudge...

the Belle

Isle Aquarium.

You took a 'moonlight cruise' to Bob-Lo with Captain Bob-Lo or

went to Edgewater Amusement Park.

You shopped at Hughes and Hatcher, B Siegel, Peck and Peck,
Himelhoch's, Robert Hall, Crowley's, Shoppers Fair, EJ Korvettes or
Federals.

You rode the elevator at J. L. Hudson's, which was 'run' by an
elevator operator.

You remember a Winkleman's and Sanders store in your neighborhood.

You remember Twin Pines Dairy delivered milk and juice to the
chute on the side of your house and Milky the Clown performed magic
with the magic words 'Twin Pines.'

:) Can I have a boston cooler now please?

I REMEMBER EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE!!!!!

I got my first job at 16 years old working at the Sanders at Eastland Mall. I ate soooo many sundaes during the two years I worked there! Hot fudge cream puffs were my personal favorites. I can't even remember the last time I had one, but I know I could go for one right now!

Oh, and Bill Bonds? DH and I were out to dinner back in May, and Bill Bonds was sitting at the table across from ours. So, he is still around!

My inlaws kept up up to date on him for awhile. He was in his HeyDay when I left Michigan, then his daughter was killed by a drunk driver and he became an alcoholic himself. They used to tell us whether he was in or out of rehab. Last I had heard he had cleaned himself up, I'm glad he used to be quite respectable.

OK, y'all, does Pine Knob still rock the night away? When I left, I had renewable season tickets for concerts-it was like $50 for 7 concerts, and we had moved up through the years to 6th row almost center. It broke my heart to let those tickets go....

Hey, what about Art Van and Ollie Fretter? Are they still around with their quality merchandise?

My friend and I used to get left home alone when our folks went out on a Saturday night. We would always watch Sir Graves Ghastly and the Ghoul...(overday)...scared the bejeebers outta us!

How about Cunningham's Drug Store? My best friend and I used to go up to the Federal's on 8-Mile and then across the street to Cunningham's for a pop.(They had the fountain Vernor's-extra fizzy!)

I thought I was the only person in the world who remembered Milky the Clown! Anybody remember the theme song?

Cunninghams has been gone for so long I can't even remember when they closed! I want to say in the seventies?

Ollie fretter... gone
Pine Knob is DTE theatre but EVERYONE still calls it Pine Knob because their parents, US, still call it that. I have to keep track of major concerts so if I'm going along 75 to get home I can remember to get left and watch for it to come to a complete stand still while people suddenly decide they're at the right exit!

Art Van.. still in business and I usually curse them once a week over something I've bought there. You'd think I would have learned that you pay for quality!

We had our wedding there! I was so sad, they tore it down just after our 19th anniversary. I always thought it would be nice to have our 20th anniversary dinner there, but we were one year off.

We always said we'd do our anniversaries there, and every year we end up going to the Holly Hotel. Who wants to drive far on Dec 29th? Its usually horrible weather that day!

OMG that is so cheap!!

I take back the Cunningham's seventies comment. I know I was in the one in Birmingham in 83?

Yes, travel bug, it is a LARGE jar and plenty for all. colesmom is bringing the Vernor's and Stroh's..we need someone to bring the Faygo..can you do that?

I have been in the Sander's shop on Outerdrive and Michigan Avenue. They also used to have one at Southland Mall, which is where my mom used to take me. And I remember going to Hudson's in downtown Detroit at Christmas with my mom, friend and her mom to see the floor with the Christmas decorations. Then we would have lunch in the cafeteria. No white gloves for us. The thing that sticks out most in my mind was when we went through the area for Santa, the elf handed our moms a note. On it was printed..."would you like to see the white Santa or the black Santa?" This was around 1969 or 70, and I still remember that...We were too old for Santa, so we just walked by.

I received an email the other day with old Detroit photos. My heart ached when I saw pictures of Hudson's and the BobLo boats.

I used to live in Trenton.

They opened a store in my downtown city this past year or so. That is NOT a good thing :sad2: :sad2:

OK, one last post before beddy bye..My wedding reception was at Fairlane Manor, and I used to LOVE, LOVE LOVE Greenfield village. That is going on my list of something I want to take the boys to when we go back. I doubt my DH will want to do it, but I am going to try. As a teenager, my friends and I would go at Christmas time and run around in the snow while we walked to all the buildings. I actually got to spend the night in the Henry Ford Museum when I was in Girl Scouts, they used to have a dormitory type room with a bunch of bunk beds and shower/bathroom areas. I don't know if that was it's purpose or why they had those accomodations. Very cool...Night in the Museum!

My dad worked for Ford, too. He retired from the Rouge Plant about 18 years ago.

If you come next year i'm gonna renew my pass and you can go with us and get in for free. We buy the rides included too so we can ride our hearts out in the model T's.. :car: We go up there just to ride the rides. Cheap entertainment for the kids..

We never took I75. We would drive all the way up Telegraph to Dixie Hwy, then go in the back "Secret" way. Much faster and no traffic!

Cunningham's was too far away from my neighborhood, but I am sure everyone had a Benjamin (Ben) Franklin's in theirs. Penny candy that was..oh yeah, get this.....$.01...canyabelieveit?

I watched Milky the Clown as well as Bozo. I remember thinking at my tender young age that Milky was lame. He had a game where the kid could reach into a jar filled with pennies, and keep all the pennies he could pull out. Just one thing, the fist the kid made was too big to pull out, so he had to drop most of his pennies. I will always remember how they cheated those little kids!

Also watched Rita Bell's Prize Movie, and Bill Kennedy.

Hey is Winkleman's still in business? I thought I was the most uptown girl if I got to buy something there. We usually shopped at Robert Hall.

Sadly no Winkelman's is not in business anymore. That was my first credit card :sad1:

Mine too!

Being home sick with Rita and her red phone...

I miss all the Detroit only shows. They just don't do that anymore!

LOL the "secret way" was my stomping grounds as a teenager. Not a lot to do in Milford so we'd always hang out in waterford.

Rides???WTH, Rides??? When I went the only ride was a horse drawn carriage!

Congrats on 5000 posts... :woohoo:

WOOO HOOO! Thanks! I wouldn't have noticed it had you not said something!

I rode the model T's last Friday.. perhaps that was an early prize for hitting 5000 posts, eh?

It was killing me to remember, so I googled a map. Was it Sashabaw road and or Walton Road that you took off Dixie Hwy right near the Red Barn?

Model T rides, carriage rides, horse drawn trolley rides, and they moved the carousel closer to the front. They also paved the roads! Didn't need it this trip, but I remember getting more than one stroller tire stuck in those ruts!

The museum has been redone, too, and of course, aligned with the MEAP! :)
